Isn't it looking like Jason gets the Mediabase #1 this week while Keith gets the Billboard #1? Jason is only 1 spin behind on Mediabase with another day to go. Carrie could then get #1 next week. Regardless politics continue to run country radio. As noted in the Wasted Time thread, for all intents and purposes Mediabase is now final. It will update again this evening when recurrents are removed. Keith is #1.

I didn't realize the Mediabase week ended on Saturday. Billboard ends on Sunday, thought, right?

I didn't realize the Mediabase week ended on Saturday. Billboard ends on Sunday, thought, right? Yes, Billboard's tracking week ends tonight at midnight. Mediabase's ended last night at midnight. Jason actually fell short by a fair amount of points this week of #1 on Mediabase. He never came close to #1. Keith's audience lead was the reason.

It's looking like they are already pushing Jason to make it #1 on both charts this week and Carrie is in good position to take it next week. She's ahead of FGL by over 5 million on media base, so things are looking great in my opinion!

The station that is playing it is usually indicative of what the next single is.

They also added "Move" by Luke Bryan.

Reading these posts about "Dirty Laundry" receiving airplay gave me chills. That song will have a huge impact, I do believe.

Despite it being one of my favs on the album, I just don't see that happening. However, if it was the lead single, I think you'd be right. No matter how you slice it, this era has been dull. For Carrie's standards. Her best performance was with Church Bells, but it was on an awards show watched by very few. No doubt Carrie will bounce back. And no doubt DL will be a #1, but as for having a huge impact, I don't see it happening.

But even if it gets released fourth, I can easily see it becoming the biggest hit from Storyteller.

I was getting a little hyped that "Choctaw County Affair" might be next because there were some indications it might be getting visibility on next month's TV airing of CMA Music Fest, but "Dirty Laundry" is their other best choice so I'm all for that one as well. In a perfect world, they'd release them both as singles 4-5 and the era would end on an incredibly high note. "Dirty Laundry" seems like a huge favorite, too, so I'm definitely expecting that one to leave a pretty nice footprint behind for the Storyteller era. I can see it being a strong seller and with a great music video (something she missed out on with Church Bells, though she made up for it with fun live performances), I can see it doing very well.

I have such mixed feelings about whether "Choctaw County Affair" will see the light of country radio. The song is "Church Bells" on speed; it is the perfect story song, invoking the spirit of powerful songs like "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia." It epitomizes the album--it will be a major misstep if it's not released, but then again, Carrie's singles discography is full of missteps. I think it would be the perfect way to close out the era. I think it's too late in the era for Dirty Laundry to make much impact, tbh. Hopefully I am wrong.

Arista/Sony Nashville will push for #1 with "Church Bells" this week. From Billboard this evening. Carrie has a 3.0 million audience lead on FGL on Billboard and a 2,000 point lead on FGL on Mediabase, as of Monday. No Thank You ads from Broken Bow for "Lights Come On" but Carrie should get #1 on both charts this week as I see Arista ready to rack up over 9000 spins on Mediabase. Republic Nashville will of course hold back for one more week before "H.O.L.Y." takes over next week.

After 5 straight singles (6 if you count "Somethin' Bad") missed the top spot on Billboard's Country Airplay chart, Carrie finally got back to the summit with "Heartbeat", and "Church Bells" will make it back-to-back #1's. Aldean lost over 1 million in audience on Mediabase this morning, so Carrie should move ahead of him tomorrow morning or Friday morning at the latest, and she'll easily finish ahead of both Jason and FGL on Billboard. At this point, Carrie's chances of scoring the #1 here are 99%.

It's great to see Carrie Underwood get back to back #1s. I do hope that if "Dirty Laundry" is released it really does well and get multiple weeks at the top. I doubt it but it'd be great if so.
I do think Carrie Underwood got slightly lucky in timing. I was always thinking FGL "H.O.L.Y" was gonna catch up to Carrie. Hopefully if "Dirty Laundry" is next after that I'd like to see "The Girl You Think I Am" or "Like I'll Never Love You Again". That'd make the era end really well.

Would love to get that #1s thread updated with that next week.

"Church Bells" is #1 on Mediabase this week. Will most certainly reach #1 on Billboard Airplay tomorrow.
Two straight singles from Carrie reaching #1 on both charts.

Very pleased with "Church Bells"' run and #1 peak. The single brought us a variety of command performances from Carrie that not only show just how much she has grown as a performer and interpreter but also that she and her team are current country's most creative when it comes to staging and arranging live performances. Despite the live video, "Church Bells" showed a lot of strength on streaming platforms and outdrew "Heartbeat" on Spotify during its run (which probably is somewhat a reflection of Spotify's growth among country fans, but is also the by-product of "Church Bells" actually connecting). It still wasn't the big breakout hit that Storyteller has lacked, of course, thanks in part to the missed opportunity that was the video and perhaps a foregone performance at an all-genre show like the Billboard Music Awards. Still, "Church Bells" was an affirmation that a dark, layered, and rich narrative lyric still works for Carrie and at country radio (I was actually surprised to see "Church Bells" test as well as it did at Mediabase's national callout service). All good. I'll be a little surprised if "Dirty Laundry" isn't the next single because it seems so obvious a radio pick. But, of course, I would be thrilled to see "Choctaw County Affair" get its day. jhomes87's report that Keith Urban plans to release "The Fighter" after "Blue Ain't Your Color" makes me wonder whether Storyteller will stop at four singles, which would be annoying though not unsurprising. If that's the case, I would still like to see "Choctaw County Affair" at least get the "Fire Away" treatment with primetime television performances (including ABC's CMA Fest special) and also an impact video, especially since there hasn't been one during the Storyteller era. It seems to me that Storyteller still has room to grow among Carrie's fans who aren't country radio listeners (narrow taste demographic that that is), so I hope there are some performance/video opportunities taken in the months to come to reach out to them (and no, I'm not talking about radio crossover; that's a dead horse about which I've made my thoughts clear). Carrie has historically fared so well as an ambassador for country music on all-genre stages, so while she will be busy on the road again for the rest of 2016, I hope she'll have some opportunities to represent country in front of mainstream music audiences as well.

This would be one of the most crushing things to happen to any era of hers, especially given how most of Storyteller is infinitely stronger than "The Fighter". Having said that, I can see it happening, though it would be even more inexcusable than when they stopped the Blown Away era for "The Sound of Music Live".

I don't believe Carrie has mentioned anything about the next project yet, and unless she surprises us with something like "The Sound of Music" or baby #2, I don't expect her to take a big hiatus between albums. That leaves me to believe that it's possible that we will get single #5. "Dirty Laundry" or whatever is next will likely peak around November/December (20ish weeks) so unless Carrie has been writing, I'd think single #5 will come in January. But maybe Carrie will record this fall/winter and we will get the lead single in late summer.
