I think iHeart is why this hasn't utterly imploded yet, 'cause overall I think radio is biting back for RCA's e-mail bashing them for not playing it. Way to go, label. POP:20 20 BRITNEY SPEARS Make Me f/G-Eazy 4628 4723 -95 22.080 -46 Spins +7 Bullet -0.505 Audience HOT AC:Purged

Ugh, so pissed it seems radio is gonna let it just die even after the sales and streaming interest. What makes me really mad is they couldn't even be bothered to take it top 20 or top 15 at least. Not gonna lie, this absolutely doesn't bode well for the era. This was a great single choice, Britney was there to promote it, and interest was there and they just didn't care. To be fair, they weren't the main reason holding this back. Radio likely feels sort of burned by Britney. They supported the jarring WB to the top 15. They even were initially pretty supportive of Perfume. The problem was that Britney barely did anything to support the songs themselves and it didn't resonate w/ the public as a result. They took a chance on her during BJ and it backfired on them. Then PG happened, which further exasperated the situation. It's understandable that they've been hesitant given how many chances they've given Britney. They had to get everything right w/ Make Me and they dropped the ball again. The music video had been released a really pivotal time for the song. It needed to be great, not only to attach an interesting visual to the song, but to keep the song afloat until promo began weeks later. That of course, didn't happen, and it was $2 million down the drain. The rest of the promo itself was not really memorable (though Britney was really energetic at the VMAs). I do agree that Britney and her team needs to bring it and not mess up. The question is, will they? They knew they had to bring it after the backlash of BJ but we got PG. They knew they had to bring after PG but they messed up the release of Make Me. Hopefully they don't mess up the next single. Wow great post! One question though, did the "Make Me" video cost $2 million or is that the cost between the 2 videos and promo behind it??

Still a sliver of hope in there somewhere I suppose.

I know during holidays playlists differ. Although this has been on consistent any hope this may pickup after today? The album is way down on iTunes too.

This is what I was afraid would happen. While second winds sometimes happen, there usually has to be pretty compelling and consistent interest to drag it back from the grave. I don't think it lasted long enough back in the top 10 for radio to turn around on it, especially since I think radio has been less responsive to sales lately (roaring songs to the top 5 that are middling in the 15-50 range while giving the cold shoulder to songs that consistently sell top 10).
I still regret the video though because I think a good video would have helped its hot 100 position and sales enough to make it to the heavy promo/VMAs week. It feels like it was so close to clicking.
She has a ton of decent songs left on the cd, but I am afraid we won't get as much promo or effort for any other single so it will really depend on people connecting to it themselves. However, at least we got a great cd. At this point, that is really what matters more to me.

Even if this song isn't straight up dropping, perhaps they should consider having a new single to premiere by the time the iHearts Festival and Itunes Festival comes around. Wow great post! One question though, did the "Make Me" video cost $2 million or is that the cost between the 2 videos and promo behind it?? The $2 million dollars was not for both videos nor was it for the promo. It was for David LaChapelle's work with Britney. Evidently, David LaChapelle was also commissioned to do the the photoshoot (which was also scrapped) for the album so the $2 million total may have been the photoshoot + music video instead of just the music video.

They really need to move on to the next single. Again, I'm not really sure why people are so obsessed with this. Maybe I'm alone but it's kind of nice to see a Britney song keep on chugging along. Her songs come and go so fast at pop radio, it's nice that one isn't completely imploding after 4 weeks. I'd rather they stretch this shit out for as long as they can so this era can last as long as possible.

+28 on Pop so far today. Early, but still I wonder if Labor Day weekend tends to slow songs down...I don't really remember, but I think some other songs have slowed down this weekend so maybe things can still turn around here. #12 on iTunes with a couple of recent green updates -- I'm pleasantly surprised by that. Another potential upside this week could be a new peak on the Hot 100 which would be announced today if it happens -- perhaps if station PDs see that it could bode well for increased spins. By the way, is a Mediabase account needed to monitor tracking throughout the day? Thanks for always posting updates on that!

If they don't want the album to disappear from the BB200 in a month they need to move on.

I agree about them moving on to the next single. The album is more important than this song, and it would be a real bummer to watch this amazing album get totally lost. Though, I suppose it could make a comeback at any point...

I was initially hesitant about 'Do You Wanna Come Over?' being the followup, but honestly I think it's the most sensible. If this couldn't get it's footing, promo and all, then staying on trend isn't going to matter really. I almost think she'd be better off throwing out an oddball and hoping it stands out. 'Do You Wanna Come Over?' is pretty much the only standard track that accomplishes this.
On that note, I really do not understand why the deluxe tracks are "just" deluxe tracks. 'Better', 'Change Your Mind (No Seas Cortés)', or 'If I'm Dancing' all sound like brilliant would-be singles in the same parallel universe where Britney Spears is finally and rightfully recognized as the new queen of pop, may Madonna rest in piece.
Singles should look like:
1. Make Me... 2. Do You Wanna Come Over? 3. Slumber Party (or If I'm Dancing) 4. Better

I am rooting for Better and hoping it goes the way of Super Bass. If it's going to happen though, it needs to happen soon, while trop house or whatever the hipsters are calling it. Of the other excellent bonus tracks, the only way I see No Seas Cortes being a hit is if they add Mr. Worldwide to it (where is charismatic when you need her?!) and sped it up a tad. He could hop right on quickly during her Spanish spoken word bit. Other than that, yeah, I am pretty perplexed regarding singles. It sucks that Britney can't get a smash with a moody midtempo like Make Me when Selener can get several. Even though technically Britney sells it better, Liar would be a smash in the hands of a say...Carrie Underwood but for Britney? Nah.
I still stan for Make Me though. It's such a smooth track and G-Eazy adds so much swagger to it. Good job with such a killer first single, chart placement be damned. I say Top 20 is respectable, especially given the taste left in the general public's mouth after BJ.

I'm torn between Better/ Clumsy for second single then PS/ Just Luv Me / Man on the moon; her label might as well take risks with this album. How does MM compare to #beautiful CHR wise? When this single was released I thought it was her Ray of light/ Emancipation album. Now it may be her Erotica?

It could be Ina Forsberg or Julia Michaels (as they are credited as background vocals) but...probably not. Britney is not a Beyonce who steals credit when she doesn't earn it and I don't know if I consider a spoken word interlude to be a background vocal so I am going with Britney on this one.

Ok I finally came to the conclusion that they should just take a risk for second single and release DYWCO? I would have gone with LMD for a safer choice. It should go:
1. Make Me 2. Do You Wanna Come Over? 3. Love Me Down 4. Just Like Me/Just Luv Me 5. Liar/Man On the Moon

This Sunday is gonna be its 9th week on the chart on pop radio. It has a positive radio update so far today. It's been pretty steady. And I meant for Britney standards. WB and PG were both dead in like 6 weeks.

This is still fizzling out fast, regardless of her recent history.
