I have no words for this single's choice. This is probably the farthest everyone has ventured outside of the already pretty wide defined country genre. What bugs me the most is that it seems to be built on three different songs and the brass part is way too overused. The vocals are trite and emotionless, even for a song like this they are weak. The product placement references are horrible; and since when do Cowboys go on Vacation and sipping coconut water cocktails? What's the deeper meaning anyway; I'm afraid, probably none. Bottom of the barrel and probably worse than "Sun Daze". Instant station changer and another nail in the coffin of the genre. If this is Country 2016 and everybody is fine with I'll join the Walker Wheeler Jr. anti CMT awards bash. I usually don't comment on things I don't like; so please forgive me. Walk with peace and Requiescat In Pace.

This is upsetting. Had some good material on his first album but that guy is long gone. Yikes.

If I was calling the shots, "The Day You Stop Looking Back" would be the 4th single. It's a great country sounding ballad that I think would be extremely popular and help build his sound and setlist.
However, with that being said, I'm a big fan of this song and I fully expect to be the only one on this board. Yes, it's an easy song to critique and criticize - the lyrics are goofy, the production is all over the place, Thomas sounds like that drunk Uncle trying to be cool by poorly rapping, and it's not very country sounding at all. However, if I just honestly listen to this one without the mindset of being a music critic for Pitchfork, I can't help but smile and enjoy this song. It's simply fun. It sounds to me like a more modern and tacky version of "Toes". I'll always be a sucker for beachy songs, so that could be why I enjoy this one more than others. But damn is this catchy. It will absolutely be a huge money maker at his live shows.

Let me preface by saying this one does have a catchy melody in the chorus.
That being said, is this possibly the worst song that has been released to terrestrial country radio in recent memory?
I can't see an entire panel of stations getting on board with this (although I said that about Sam Hunt in the past).

I actually like this song, but wish it would have stayed an album track. Like dm2081 said, there were so many better songs he could have released (at least songs that were more country and better for radio). I get he probably wants to be able to play this in concert for years to come, but I feel like he could have done that without making it a single. Interesting to see how this plays out. Thomas is white hot, but this song is so out there, I wonder if he can get a high peak on his momentum alone.

I'll take a hard pass on this one. Even if this classified as pop, it's still not good. It's just not a good song period.

This will test how hot Rhett really is, if this one can become another top 5 or even #1 single. I have to think radio draws a line in the sand at some point, even if I think that line is way, way further away than I feel it should be. It'll be interesting how this one tests. I don't see it testing bad (relatively speaking) with the 18-35 male demo (nothing sung by solo male singers seems to tests bad with that demo right now) but maybe it researches so horribly with everyone else that radio thinks twice about converting it to heavy rotation by the time it climbs the chart some. I'm amazed they have the audacity to release this to radio, honestly. I think this is the furthest thing from Country music I've seen released so far since I joined Pulse.

I'm going to start picking my least favorite, most "out there" songs from every album...because it's a guaran-damn-tee that that song will be released as a single. Every. Time.

You know what bothers me the most is how he says "Let's party like we on Vacation". Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that improper english.

You know what bothers me the most is how he says "Let's party like we on Vacation". Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that improper english. It's slang. Songs often use slang. As for this song getting the single treatment, I'm not surprised by much but I still was surprised by this getting the single. Then again, given sales based on The Highway play alone, it seems a 'safe' summertime type of jam. I usually am on the side of "oh, it's a radio format, not a traditional thing, but there were far more "country" songs than this one, including "Playing With Fire"

The more writers, the more they were *trying* to do something instead of just writing. It just comes out sloppy and forced.

You can tell it's not good just by how many writers there are Thanks for pointing this out! Going out on a limb here and it's purely hypothetical: The "writer" must be Thomas Rhett. These must be the original writers for the sampled songs used: Thomas Allen, Harold Brown, Morris Dickerson, Sean Douglas, Gerry Goldstein, Leroy Jordan, Charles Miller Thomas Allen is probably Allen Toussaint. Probably it's two distinct funk/soul songs from the 70s. Maybe a song from funk outfit WAR?. rsmatto Can you corroborate my thesis? EDIT: OK. It's solved. it samples "Low Rider" by WAR. Thanks! dm2081

I don't even know what to say, when I saw this thread I was hoping it was a joke. Releasing this song as a single has to be one of the biggest slaps in the face to country music ever. I've been racking my brain trying to think of a worse song released to country radio and I honestly cant come up with one, which is saying a lot because there has been some atrocious music released in recent years. Waylon, Hank, Merle and George Jones must be rolling in their graves.

You can tell it's not good just by how many writers there are It credits the whole band War because it samples "Low Rider". That's why this one has so many writers. Without those credits it wouldn't seem as bad.

I had a problem with you bringing it up in a thread that wasn't about the song. Not you. There have been a handful of instances where people have crticized the "wow there are so many writers" thought. I seem to remember it for "Sun Daze", "Lose My Mind", and "Somewhere on a Beach", "Live Forever" off the top of my head. All of which were basic, ordinary, amateur-level songs. By no means do I think many writers is a "cause" for a crappy song, but I definitely have seen a case for "correleation" lately...

I guess I didn't even compute that those six writers below the ones I liste d were for this track, too... Ugh. Now the thread starter is going to look ridiculous. 14 writers...

And I thought t-shirt wasn't country... It's just so annoying how these garbage songs that took ZERO effort end up being huge hits, while Charlie Worsham/Josh Thompson/Jamey Johnson/artists who sing and write from the heart struggle.

I love this song... as an album track. Wouldn't have been my choice for a single. I'm not nearly as upset about this as others are, because I actually like the song, but I personally would have went with "Like It's the Last Time" instead. That's a really great song and would have been a much better choice for country radio.
It will be interesting to see how this one does. On its own merits, its a risky release. However, if anyone can make this a hit, Thomas can. Like I said, it'll be interesting to see what happens here.
Also, I understand being bothered by improper grammar... but let's not pretend that country music has ever been concerned with using correct grammar lol.

... the hell did I just listen to? Lmao. Gosh, this guy keeps getting worse and worse. I can't believe this is actually going to country radio.. ugh, I pray this one stalls out in the teens or something ala "1994" or "Truck Yeah" or "Real Life" because I just cannot endure the thought of this being a big hit.

This song is literally worse than all of those songs combined. Like, I would legitimately trade so that all 3 of those songs could have hit #1 if it meant that this song would miss... I am actually rooting against this song so hard that I am willing to cheer on other terrible songs just to see it fail... I never thought my life would get to that point.

This song would be absolutely terrible no matter what genre it was classified in. I didn't particularly care for T-Shirt, but I could see why people liked it. This is just downright awful.
