RIP Slumber Party. Deserved so much better. :'(
At this point it wouldn't surprise me at all if the era is done now and we get no third single since we didn't on the last album and this one performed no better than "Perfume" did. I hope that's not the case because even if she throws another one at radio and it flops I need another hot video because Glory has too many jams.

I just don't get what happened here. It was doing pretty well for a new single in what is generally considered to be the worst time to break a song in at radio, and it didn't really suffer any ill effects of the season (past what you could expect with Xmas/Year End) but then come January it just... didn't stabilize? What?
I half-wonder if it's a combination of Ed/Chainsmokers played a part. It's like, Britney was in her lane cruising along nicely, taking the scenic drive, only to be cut off not once but TWICE by a douche in a Lamborghini (lol idk about this analogy but whatever). That, on top of what looks like another bottleneck situation with too many songs with high airplay bunched up outside the top 10 with not enough spots for them to move up.

Yeah, it seemed like it may come back nicely for a bit and then it totally dropped off. Then again, most of the songs it came up with (Words, Million Reasons, Say It) aren't doing much either. I highly doubt they'll even do a Single #3 at this point, especially with rumors of B10 already starting. At this point, do the next 1st single with Max Martin or something. Just come back with a pure pop BOP. If THAT doesn't work out either, then idk... :(

Yeah while the majority of Glory takes current trends and works them to Britney's style and strengths, Better is essentially a Purpose leftover that happens to have her singing it instead of Justin. I don't prefer it to MM or this, but I am curious as to how it may have done had it gone first. A leftover that sounds better than everything on "Purpose" (bar maybe Sorry) though. It's definitely a trend-hopping track no doubt, but her delivery on it supercedes >

She's had, what, 6 flops in a row now? It doesn't matter how good or current Better is, it's bound to flop. Snoozing Party and Make Me didn't set it up for success. I'd rather her move on than have Better join her flop singles TBH.
Come back hard with a banger in the fall.
An actual banger. No one is here for her midtempos.

This has happened before.
1. Don't let me be the last to know 2. Slave 2. Not a girl 3. Overprotected 4. Boys 5. Me against the music Then...smash!
1. Outrageous 2. My prerogative 3. Gimme More 4. Piece of me 5. Break the Ice Then...smash!
Radio goes in cycles with Britney. And Britney goes in cycles with releasing radio fodder and creative jams that could be hit or miss on radio. If you guys want a hit, I'm sure she could make one. I'm honestly not bothered and am perfectly happy with Make Me and the rest of Glory, hits be damned.

Pretty much this entirely Though between POM & Radar (both are awesome songs) Womanizer to If U Seek Amy did well, Radar was pushed as a single after Amy

Criminal Ooh La La Work Bitch Perfume Pretty Girls Make Me Slumber Party 7 in a row :( Though technically Scream and Shout came out between Criminal and Ooh La La, which was just a soundtrack song. I mean we can argue about the definition of a flop but I think only Pretty Girls and Slumber Party were really 'flops'. Criminal (just barely) peaked inside the Top 20, while WB went Top 15. Make Me went Top 20 and had a little longevity. Many underperformances, sure, but I wouldn't call them all flops. But yes, the next single(s) are crucial. She needs a Top 10 hit again.

I wonder argue Slave was a hit in the same vein the Dirrty was for Xtina, not a great peak but everyone knows the song. Gimme More was definitely a hit though, it went top 3.

Agreed, but my post was more specifically mentioning pop radio, where Gimme More didn't even crack the top 20 and Slave just barely so, if I remember correctly. This is also a good point though. Pop radio peaks are not everything and I'd be perfectly happy with a song like that connecting with the public and getting a higher hot 100 peak, even if radio isn't all that interested. That could have been / should have been Make Me.

Damn, "Criminal" really killed her momentum. Should've been "Inside Out"

Who and why did they decide to release this when they had way better songs on "Britney Jean" to release????? Did Britney love this song??? I thought she was pushing for "Alien" It's not the worst thing I ever heard but it's not often people are looking for a Britney ballad. Well "Everytime" did well but that wasn't the norm. lol ( the version I'm listening to now isn't as slow as I remembered though)..... When the cd came out I listened to this song once or twice and called it a day. lol On a sidenote did "Perfume" have a radio deal???? Perhaps that's why it did as well as it did?

I wouldn't say Criminal killed her momentum overall. It was the fourth single to a successful era. Britney isn't really known for long eras anyway. If anything killed her momentum, it was Work Bitch. And Pretty Girls buried it.
Her recent single choices have been awful. Out of the last seven, she's had four ballads/mid tempos, Work Bitch (awful edit), Ooh La La (gets a pass for being a soundtrack song), and Pretty Girls (yikes). The Glory singles are good songs, but they're not the type of song that's usually a hit for her. She needed more uptempo, classic Britney material after Britney Jean.

I really think 'Do You Wanna Come Over', or something equally different/jarring, was the way to go. As the above post mentions, she hasn't had any momentum going for her for quite some time now. MM and SP are both fine, but they don't bring anything new that consumers would want to hear. I'm not saying DYWCO is it either, but it would stand out in a way the chosen singles did not. A catchy, memetic chorus helps too.
It's funny; my roommate asked me the other day what I wanted for dinner and I said "whatever you want". She replied with the "whatever you need" bit and, come to find out, it was on a few Spotify playlists she frequented. She had no idea the album had come out, though.

Still far better than I ever would've guessed! No promo other than the video, no discount, did she even talk about it outside of Twitter/Facebook? I wouldn't call this is a hit but I definitely wouldn't call it an underperformer,, either
