I prefer he way that the grammy's does it in that respect. Adele is great, but she isn't nominated every year. Not to nitpick, but I just want to point out that Adele, unlike most country stars comes out with new music and has a huge year or two, and then disappears for a length of time. Adele would probably be nominated all the time if she didn't take several years off between projects, lol.

I often see people use stats like sales, charts, touring, etc, as top reasons to justify an award like Female Vocalist of the Year. I never understand if that's their own subjective take on what the award should be about or if those are the actual objective points this category awards. I always thought the category awarded who voters felt were the ones that represented the genre the best that específic year, and that could mean very different things to each voter depending on how you jugded that representation - commercially or in terms of the quality of the work put out (or both). Am I wrong? Are these awards based on objetive or subjetive reasons? (Or we don't know? LOL) I was just making the case based on what the poster said they based it on. I think the criteria that the voters don't really follow anyway are about recorded performance and representation. I think it should be based on success with radio and sales. Either way Carrie is the leader in that category, no matter which of the three criteria listed here was followed.

Adele was perhaps not the best example But Beiber (duh not Bieber me being dumb his album was released this period), , Kendrick Lamar isn't nominated this year, he's toured and put out a couple singles. Only at country awards do you see the same person winning year after year (& in some years they've done very little). Anyways, counting things like touring in a vocal trophy, placing a lot of weight on singles, and allowing for album sales to count even when the album itself was released outside of the awards cycle, is basically a way for the biggest names to always be nominated for the big awards. From a "they are the big names" perspective it's great, but for a highlighting of new and different names/people who have maybe released more music in a year, it's not as good.

I would like for sooner than later for new blood like Maren Morris, Brothers Osborne or Maddie & Tae if they make a big enough comeback, Chris Stapleton, and for groups eh, that's a department that's lacking in the new and critical darling type so keep giving Little Big Town that award.
The more newer artists start winning these awards (not every year) the more stars are created for country music

Adele would probably be nominated all the time if she didn't take several years off between projects, lol. Adele was perhaps not the best example But Beiber for instance has spent this whole year touring, sold albums, and yet has no nominations, Kendrick Lamar isn't nominated this year, he's toured and put out a couple singles. Only at country awards do you see the same person winning year after year (& in some years they've done very little). Because most of them don't take breaks, or their idea of a break is "I'll wait like only 2 months between the fourth/fifth single of my last project and my next lead single." What you're seeing is that in other genres, the artists cycle in and out of the spotlight instead of staying in it year after year. Bieber had a sizable lull between Purpose and his last album, too. And not sure what you mean about him having no nominations because his album is nominated for the Grammys. Bottom-line: if more country artists took breaks, we'd see more of a shake up. It doesn't happen, because most of the ones on top, stay on top by not going anywhere, and they only stop being on top if radio moves on because they're old or their music doesn't cut it for what they're looking for.

From a "they are the big names" perspective it's great, but for a highlighting of new and different names/people who have maybe released more music in a year, it's not as good. The GRAMMYs honor specific bodies of work, therefore limiting the amount of power artists can have in garnering yearly nominations. If an artist doesn't put out a full album every year (and most don't), they don't get nominated. The only awards that honor artists as individual acts/people are Best New Artist and Producer and Engineer of the Year awards. Otherwise, all of the other 70-something categories honor specific pieces that are only eligible for that one specific year. The CMAs, ACMs, etc. honor artists individually and by their bodies of work, and even if they don't release anything major, they can still be nominated in those individualized categories because of various things -- recurrent airplay, sales, touring, etc. That's why we see the same names at these country award shows all the time.

I really wish country artists would take breaks as well there'd be greater anticipation of the next single and album while other A listers and other promising new artists shine.
We're barely a year into albums like Storyteller and that album appears to be all wrapped up. That's all fine and dandy, but there should be a longer gap than a couple of months between the last single peaking and the new lead single being released, make the fans wait, get the fans more intrigued.
If more acts like Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean, Carrie Underwood etc did that then maybe some newer artists can get their time to shine instead of having the same 10 to 15 artists in the Top 30 week after week.

Oooh, sis. The last 2 albums of Carrie's have come with 3 and a half year waits between one another. Unless your name is Luke Bryan or Carrie Underwood (or in most recent case, Chris Stapleton), an album's shelf life is about a year in country music. Commerce runs music -- especially the likes of country and pop. Yeah, it feels stagnant sometimes, but that's less to blame on artists releasing music, and more to blame on radio refusing to diversify.

I understand albums having shorter shelf lives but labels don't need to move on after like 2 singles. 3 maybe, but 2? That makes no sense to me whatsoever. But, I don't know the whole story. Side note: Please don't call me sis it just kinda makes me feel uncomfortable for some reason, no offense.

The closest thing they've gotten to it is adding every male seeking a hit into top 10 rotation. And there are lots of different reasons for albums having short legs. Singles might be underperforming, sales might be weak, ticket sales for tours might be awful, social scandals, inner circles being shuffled, label management being compromised, etc. I don't really know of an artist off the top of my head that willingly releases only 2 or 3 singles from an album before moving to a new one. Enlighten me? And got it, apologies! And none taken whatsoever.

I just feel like if an album is young enough aka less than a year old, the label should keep trying with that era.

He didn't say anything about labels moving on after 2 singles though I personally wish every album would get 4-5 singles, and have them climb the charts a lot faster. The A-listers pretty much do that, but I seriously was madder than a hunchback in a limbo contest each time the most recent Sara, Reba, and Martina eras effectively ended with 2 singles like 1 month into their shelf lives But that all comes back to radio needing to diversify.

For whatever reason I'm just seeing this thread now. I've always loved award shows so this is one I'm sure I'll be regularly partaking in Seriously can't believe it's this time already though... It'll be here before we know it! I'll come back and do a detailed prediction list/who I'd like to see nominated for what at some point but obviously right off the bat, this statement goes without saying: I hope Keith cleans up this year (one of these years has to be his, right? lolol) Hoping for noms in Entertainer, Male, Album, Single/Song ("Blue Ain't Your Color") and Event would have been nice with "The Fighter" but I don't think it's eligible yet. Also hoping both Maren and Miranda get Female and Album noms.. Hoping Maren cleans up, too. And I also hope Jason gets some love again this year. Still not sure how he win's Entertainer last year and then doesn't get a single nomination for the CMAs but whatever, lol. I went to these a couple years back.. I would absolutely love to go again. Will have to see what develops!! Also, if we're talking about feeling offended - calling Kip Moore "irrelevant" makes me feel that way. Anyways, those are my general thoughts for now. I'll be back later with more.

Eric Church, selling out arenas, is doing 37 full songs (all of which he's had a hand in writing outside of Like Jesus Does), totaling to 3 hours a show, every night on his tour with no openers. If he doesn't WIN Entertainer of the Year I'll be floored. Nobody comes close. No one.

Yeah, Eric Church's tour has nothing to do with this year's ACMs. After it wraps up, then maybe he has a case, but right now for this upcoming show, I wouldn't say he's a frontrunner at all. Personally I've got my fingers crossed that Carrie Underwood can get redemption the ACMs after the CMAs gave EOTY to Barf Brooks instead.

Lol, at any one who thinks Carrie doesn't build anticipation between albums. A year and half without any music is torture.

She's the exception to the rule. I just wish she would release like Luke or Blake or Tim or I could go on. Nah. That would mean she'd be releasing bland and lifeless material. If it means she's going to make strong albums that don't follow the same pattern that most do in mainstream country music, then I'm all for the 3 and a half year breaks.

If it means she's going to make strong albums that don't follow the same pattern that most do in mainstream country music, then I'm all for the 3 and a half year breaks. Not necessarily. George Strait, Toby Keith, Reba McEntire, and many others spent a significant portion of their careers releasing an album every single year, and very rarely was their material bland or lifeless. The blame for a superstar releasing bland material falls squarely on said superstar, imo. Luke, for example, has always been a bland and lifeless artist, even before being an A-lister, so it is no surprise to see him continuing to be one now. Carrie has always had consistently strong material, and I doubt that would change if she sped things up a bit. Besides, the A-listers these days don't put out music nearly as quickly as they used to. The fact that Luke, Blake, Jason, etc. often spend about 2 years on an album era makes it even more asinine that their music is so bland compared to the aforementioned examples who used to put music out every single year back in their prime... Even if Carrie consistently released music every 2 years, I have absolutely zero doubts that her output would continue to blow the other A-listers' material out of the water

I think part of it has to do with if you co-write your own material or not, and Carrie Underwood seems to like at least penning a decent chunk of her own stuff, and that she probably needs/wants some downtime between eras so she doesn't get too burned out. I do wish she didn't put *quite* as big of a gap in between her eras as she has with the last couple, but I won't question it too much if she keeps delivering incredible music. If the Storyteller era is effectively over, I do hope she can take the first half of this year or so to crank out some new stuff because I would love a new album this fall so, so much.

I'll make some nominee predictions here, just for fun.
Video of the Year
"Fire Away"- Chris Stapleton "Humble and Kind"- Tim McGraw "Vice"- Miranda Lambert "May We All"- FGL and Tim McGraw "My Church"- Maren Morris
Vocal Event
"May We All"- FGL and Tim McGraw "Lovin' Lately"- Big and Rich and Tim McGraw "Setting the World on Fire"- Kenny Chesney and Pink "Kill A Word"- Eric Church and Rhiannon Giddens "Different for Girls"- Dierks Bentley and Elle King
Song
"Humble and Kind"- Tim McGraw "My Church"- Maren Morris "Blue Ain't Your Color"- Keith Urban "Vice"- Miranda Lambert "I Met a Girl"- William Michael Morgan
Single
"Humble and Kind"- Tim McGraw "My Church"- Maren Morris "Vice"- Miranda Lambert "Blue Ain't Your Color"- Keith Urban "H.O.L.Y."- FGL
Album
"Ripcord"- Keith Urban "Storyteller"- Carrie Underwood "Hero"- Maren Morris "They Don't Know"- Jason Aldean "A Sailor's Guide to Earth"- Sturgill Simpson "The Weight of These Wings"- Miranda Lambert (if eligible)
Vocal Duo
FGL Brother's Osbourne Dan + Shay Joey and Rory Big and Rich
Vocal Group
Rascal Flatts Little Big Town Zac Brown Band Old Dominion LoCash (Are they a duo now? Not that it matters, they won't win.)
Female Vocalist
Carrie Underwood Miranda Lambert Maren Morris Kelsea Ballerini Kacey Musgrave
Male Vocalist
Jason Aldean Luke Bryan Dierks Bentley Eric Church Chris Stapleton
Entertainer
Luke Bryan Jason Aldean Garth Brooks (bleh) Carrie Underwood Eric Church
The ACMs always seem a little friendlier to Jason Aldean, so he should fair pretty well in nominations. I think we'll see some similar match ups to the CMAs, but with a few new challengers. I'm not even touching the new artists as there are criteria that aren't even followed, so I don't know Justin Moore might end up nominated again. I'd be shocked if anyone but Maren Morris won anyway.
