The smash you will hear at weddings for years. All other singles (aside from SOY obvs) are essentially placeholders until this is unleashed.
Hit #4 in the UK, #6 in AUS, and #37 on the Hot 100 after the album release.

"Thinking Out Loud" pt. 2
It's still great, though.

Well looks like this was officially confirmed as the next single.
No surprise.

Ed Sheeran effed up. Should have been Galway Girl. He let the huge smash named Galway Girl go for this boring song? wtf.

I was actually thinking that the time for this might have passed possibly, but since you think it's the wrong choice, I'm probably incorrect . Moving this over to the CHR section since it's a confirmation from him himself (and that's an interview for a CHR/Pop station).

Galway Girl wouldn't be terrible as a fourth single. I'd say this song is suitable now and assuming it smashes, by the time next year's wedding season arrives, it'll be familiar enough for everyone to want to use lol.

Ed Sheeran effed up. Should have been Galway Girl. He let the huge smash named Galway Girl go for this boring song? wtf. Nah, it's too late for GG. That one has already obliterated the charts in several countries. It's already been streamed and downloaded in the US as of it were a single. Releasing it as one would result in good airplay with low everything else, basically what happened with Castle. Perfect is actually the most obvious single choice. If you think it's boring, I'm sorry I can't change that, but it's got all the same qualities about it that made Thinking Out Loud so massive. The sound is perfect for fall and winter. It capitalizes on that British white guy with a guitar love song that is the core of what makes Ed Sheeran so successful. This song is going to be big. The only way I could see GG being sent to radio now is at the end of the era as a stand alone single to the US only since, again, it's already been a massive hit overseas. Plus, at the end of the era, it won't matter if its sales and streaming are low.

Pretty enough song, but it's so blatant in its intention to become the wedding song that I can't really get that into it. And/or I'm just getting a little bored with Ed.

It's obviously trying to become the next Thinking Out Loud, which sure, why not, but I can also just go out and listen to the original.

The crass commercialism is obvious but I am a sucker for sentimental mush so I love it!

I went from loving what he was putting out a few years ago to finding him completely insufferable. That said, this is a hit.

Yeah, this is musically competent and pandering as hell. Basically his entire persona these days, so SMASH.

My two favorite songs from the album, COTH and Galway Girl, were already hits so at this point I won't really mind anything being released. And I think this is actually better than Thinking Out Loud.

blatant in its intention to become theThis is kind of the point I have with his whole recent album. It feels like all of his strong points were put through a Celine Dion filter to remove any type of possible edge or brashness. I mean, you can still tell they're his songs, and all mainstream pop albums go through revisions and feedback, but it's so blatant throughout. There are parallels in a good amount of the songs for me with ones on his previous album, and in each case, the earlier one was better and livelier.

Count me among the ones strongly team Ed for his first album who are now falling off. I still like his music but the new album is his least interesting. His first album was relatable in that it reminded me of my early 20s a lot in a lot of ways. That feeling where everything is there to be explored and experienced for the first time. This album has its good points but for the most part he's capitalizing off of his bigger hits and that's just not as interesting, especially as his bigger hits aren't necessarily his best songs. He's Maroon 5ing himself.

Ugh. Not sure how they could miss the obvious smash that is Galway Girl.

Well, this is a no-brainer to most. Personally, I prefer Dive to this, but that's just me.

Galway Girl could be pushed starting in late November with the goal for it to dominate radio in the month leading up to and including Saint Patrick's Day

Expected choice to be honest and the timing is the best for Q4. I guess he will be performing this at the VMAs this year, unless he does a medley of "Shape of You" and "Castle on the Hill" though~
That said, "Galway Girl" would have been DOA if it's released in the US in my opinion because it's been done for months overseas and, if I remember correctly, his label has always in mind to push "Perfect" worldwide.

This is such a "focus grouped" love song, but yea it'll most likely be huge. The only thing I see hindering it is that it's already been streamed so much and the album has already sold quite a bit.

I'm still shocked since it would've been a hit as would anything he released. But I guess he wants to showcase as many songs as possible. GG still is fairly well known so I guess they want to expose other songs

this is going to be huge if how everybody that i know immediately hooked onto this and start singing at the top of their lungs the moment they knew at least some of the words to it is any indication.
that being said i liked happier the most out of the commercial ballads of the album. maybe single #5?

It's NEVER a good idea to send a song out during the holiday season. Really? Never? No, because of the Christmas freeze, which often kills new songs off that are released a bit before or during.
