Monday, June 4, 2018 Paul Rosenberg and Team Def Jam, having just returned from a whirlwind trip to Wyoming, are noting the numbers of Kanye West's new, highly touted seven-song release.
Seen just before cutting off some rustlers at the pass are (l-r) Rich Isaacson, Marcus “Ike” Ferrer, Scott Greer, Gabe Tesoriero, Rosenberg, Jen Hirsch, Scott Maness, Noah Callahan-Bever, Bruce Carbone and photographer Marcus Hyde.
Kanye West (GOOD/Def Jam) 175-190k total activity, 70-80k album
More new release numbers are expected soon.

If he can hold that range, I'd say it's a really good opening given everything.

That's very good for Kanye considering the album has only 7 songs.

Can someone explain to me in layman’s terms how albums with 7 songs hinders it’s SPS?

Which still didn't help Rae Sremmurd
It doesn't necessarily go hand in hand with the success. The longer the album is the less people are really listening to it through. I want to believe that 10 songs is still the optimal length

According one of Pusha's interviews, he said that Ye was aiming for the Grammy eligible length, which is just 7 Tracks.

i explained it in broad theory and def not a given. i agree that really long albums don't guarantee anything, as people are probably less likely to stream it all. i guess the artist in question plays a role in it too.

I want to believe that 10 songs is still the optimal length I've read theories that the move from vinyl to CD hindered a lot of artists from making "classic' albums because of the 80 minute runtime CDs afforded. Artists could come up with 10-12 strong songs for a 45 minute LP, but started adding filler, remixes, skits and interludes to pad out 80 minutes on a CD, which weakened the album overall. It's not the *worst* theory...

I said that mainly because many people listen to an album once to see which songs they don't or do like. A Post album will get 18 streams because their are 18 tracks while the Kanye album gets 7 for the same reason. If people like the entire album, once again its 18 vs. 7 streams.
Its like The Weeknd's latest EP. It had what 6 tracks (can't remember). All of the tracks did well on streaming services but since their was a low amount of tracks, it had a lower amount of SPS than it would have had it been 10 or 15 tracks.

^Yes, 6 tracks. Interestingly, its actual numbers were slightly lower than those predicted for ye, which, in essence can be accounted for due to it having 1 less track to stream than the latter.

It's not the *worst* theory... If I made a list of my all-time favourite albums, I'd say most range from 10-13 tracks. There are a few exceptions but I'd say the optimal number of songs is in that range. Most that go over can easily cut down to that and it would improve the album imo.

ye is not predicted to sell the numbers I thought it would. Is there any chance ye sells around 200k copies instead of the numbers predicted now.

Oh absolutely. Someone can put out a shitty 21-song album that i can’t even make it through once, or they can put out a 10-track banger that gets repeat streams from me.

This is very sad, and disgraceful. Either all the Trump supporters have suddenly swapped places with his fanbase, or his fans are clearly looking the other way and being very selective in their wokeness.
It's just the sad state of America... part of me that thinks it's a little bit of everyone's fault for the rise of the deranged autocrat who's in power.

He's opening with same numbers than Shawn Mendes, maybe you are overreacting a bit? I mean it's not 850k
