“Landslide” missing the top 10 is a bummer, I love the Dixie Chicks’ rendition of it. The original is amazing as well. Agreed! This had no business not making the top 10 for 2002 and the same can be said for quite a few songs that ended up getting tanked. On a side note...that video of “Landslide” hasn’t aged well at all.

#10. Rascal Flatts - "These Days"Total Points: 686 Average: 32.6 Year Released: June, 2002 Radio & Records Peak: #1 Billboard Peak: #1 Rankings:kw9461 - 1 zaclord 🌈 - 1 ClevelandRox - 4 CoJoFan - 6 .indulgecountry - 14 sabre14 - 14 tim - 19 bigfan101 - 23 ChicaCherry콜라 - 23 Andy - 24 zack97 - 26 fearlessarrow - 27 someguy - 28 bboat11 - 30 castleoblivion26 - 35 toomuchboy - 44 austin - 56 (what?!)Cody Wants Out... - 59 LBTrocks - 75 George Strait Junkie - 79 Kanenrá:ke - 98 Following: gonecountry"These Days" was the lead single off Rascal Flatts' Melt album in June of 2002. It peaked at #1 in November, becoming their first #1 radio single. It was written by Jeffrey Steele, Steve Robson and Danny Wells. Steele tells the story how his publishing company sent him an album of nothing but music and Steele had to write lyrics and a melody to its music. Steele came up with the idea for the song. He says he wrote the second verse after watching singer Jewel's story on the news getting married to Ty Murray, the Rodeo Cowboy. Steele says its the only time he wrote under those circumstances. I always thought the story behind this song was fascinating. I'm pleasantly surprised this made it to the top 10. I think it's such a well-written song and while I didn't appreciate it while it was out, I can see why the lyrics are so good to so many people. kw9461 and zaclord 🌈 lose their #1 at #10.

"Bring On The Rain" is basic. Good, but overrated. The verse on "These Days" is really bad, and Gary's voice just makes it worse. The chorus is catchy enough, but in a year this strong, yeah no. It was destined to be lower on my list.

"Long Time Gone" is amazing. Fantastic melody and instrumentation!
"Living And Living Well" is yet another perfect George Strait song. He has so many! The melody on this one is incredible, and the song is so catchy and infectious.

I am SHOCKED to see "Red Ragtop" and Steve Azar both in the top 5! RR is fantastic, but I never thought it was anywhere near one of Tim's best-loved singles; if anything it seems to be fairly forgotten... Top 10 I wasn't entirely shocked by, but I would have probably bet $100 that it would have gone out a few positions ago while "The Cowboy In Me" would still be in right now. Steve's song is fantastic, but it is not very often that a relative nobody has a song that is both well-loved and well-known enough to be a major competitor in a rankdown like this. Nice job to him! Ultimately, I see this being George's or Sara's to lose. My predictions: 5. Red Ragtop 4. I Don't Have To Be Me 3. I Keep Looking 2. Saints & Angels 1. Run I'M READY!!!!!!

#5. Tim McGraw - "Red Ragtop"
"Red Ragtop's" production and instrumentation are infectious and I think it's structure is endearing. Little surprised it was able to make it this far but not complaining.

#3. Steve Azar - "I Don't Have To Be Me ('Til Monday)"

After a long climb in 2001, it caught fire in 2002 and peaked at #2 in May of 2002, blocked by Alan Jackson's "Drive" from #1. Azar wrote the song with Jason Young and R.C. Bannon. It would be Azar's first single off Mercury Nashville and his only top 10 hit at radio.
Azar said he was having a tough time in a writing session one day. After taking a break, he ate some Tootsie Rolls he had laying around and looked outside at his new car in the driveway...that's when the opening lyrics came to his head:
"I got me a brand new car, waitin' in the driveway"
Azar said the song came quickly after that.
This is one of my all-time favorite songs, I've yet to meet a single country fan who dislikes this one. It's a universal subject that everyone can agree on, not spending time at work and doing what you love instead. The melody is fantastic. Nobody in this rankdown even remotely tanked this one, with the lowest being #55!! One of the best performances I've seen in a year-end rankdown. This was trending #1 for a while during the submission period.

I’m a bit surprised to see “I Keep Looking” in the top 2 considering “Saint & Angels” performed better in the Sara Evans rankdown, but nonetheless not complaining since I enjoy both songs. That said...GO GEORGE GO!

#2. George Strait - "Run"
Total Points: 613 Year Released: 29.1 Year Released: September, 2001 Radio & Records Peak: #2 Billboard Peak: #2 Rankings:Cody Wants Out... - 1 fearlessarrow - 1 tim - 1 bboat11 - 3 zack97 - 5 zaclord 🌈 - 5 Andy - 11 CoJoFan - 12 castleoblivion26 - 12 LBTrocks - 14 kw9461 - 17 sabre14 - 18 bigfan101 - 24 .indulgecountry - 35 Kanenrá:ke - 37 ClevelandRox - 50 ChicaCherry콜라 - 57 austin - 59 George Strait Junkie - 62 someguy - 80 toomuchboy - 109 Following: gonecountry"Run" was the lead single off George Strait's The Road Less Traveled album in September of 2001. It peaked at #2 in December of 2001 but that chart run extended into January of 2002, spending over a month at #2. It was blocked by the mega hits "Where Were You (When The World Stopped Turning)" and "Good Morning Beautiful". The song was written by Tony Lane and Anthony Smith. Smith has written numerous hit songs and he has two songs in this rankdown of his own ("If That Ain't Country" ad "John J. Blanchard"). Love this song. One of my all-time favorite George singles, which is saying something. I love the feel of this song -- it's instrumentation, production and melody. Tony Brown did a fantastic job producing this one. There were 6 top 10 placements and 12 put this in their top 20. Cody Wants Out..., fearlessarrow and tim lose their #1 at #2.
