The top 4 were AMAZING and I was going to be thrilled with any one of them winning! I mean you have two phenomenal songs by Sara and a phenomenal song by King George, what kind of flawless top 2. I really love "I Don' Want To Be Me Til Monday" but am shocked it made it SO high. Was definitely not expecting a top 10 finish for it at all, and I'm actually glad it didn't win, cuz the Sara and George >>>>>> Thanks for hosting sabre14!

My top 10 had been decimated coming into the final reveals except for the Sara Evans songs, and even then I expected "Saints and Angels" to go the farthest. Very happy to be wrong. Yes, thank you for hosting sabre14 !

And just like that “Run” gets stuck at #2 yet again...boo! I remember being rather frustrated that it couldn’t get to #1 on Billboard even though it was putting up great numbers but it just couldn’t compete with Alan’s “Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning)”. This really was a great year in country music and thanks for taking us along for the ride sabre14...looking forward to 2008!

Wow did NOT see that coming! I thought "Saints & Angels" would be the higher Sara Evans song, and I thought that one would take it all. Wish "Run" could've taken it all but "I Keep Looking" is a good winner, even though I may not have ranked it that high (2002 was a good year).

I also thought Saints and Angels would be the highest ranking song, but I am THRILLED with how this ended up. This rankdown was so fun and it was great to catch up on what was an incredible year in music
Thanks Sabre as always!

My thoughts:
-I'm not a big Rascal Flatts fan in general, but "These Days" is magic. -"Bring On the Rain" is great and I could have ranked it higher. This year was so good that there were so many songs I wanted to rank higher but couldn't. -The critical reception for "The Cowboy in Me" seems to have been mixed and it seems largely forgotten today, but it's always been one my very favorites from Tim. -"Long Time Gone" is not my favorite single from Home (that would be "Travelin' Solider", which I would rank #1 if it were in this rankdown), but it's certainly a fantastic song. The criticisms of country radio are even more applicable today. -"Living and Living Well" is a bit lightweight but is just so flat-out enjoyable.
-"Red Ragtop" has always been one of my very favorite songs from this era. Just an incredibly well-written and realistic song. "Well, you do what you do and you pay for your sins and there's no such thing as what might have been; that's a waste of time, drive you out of your mind" is one my all-time favorite lyrics. Not a typical country radio song to put it mildly so I'm thrilled to see it make the top 5. -"Saints and Angels" was a song I've heard in the past but didn't remember much about, so I essentially rediscovered while doing this rankdown. Not the deepest song lyrically but it has a very strong vocal and melody. Probably not among my very favorites by Sara but definitely enjoyable.
-"I Don't Have to Be 'Til Monday" is so incredibly charming and enjoyable. I can see why it made it so far because it's very hard to dislike. -"Run" is kind of a mid-tier Strait single for me (which still makes it a "great" song in my book). No complaints about it making the top 2. -I had a feeling my #20 ranking for "I Keep Looking" would help clinch it and sure enough it did. Definitely a great song that almost everyone can relate to. I had a blast playing along! Big thanks for putting in the time and effort to run this rankdown, sabre14 .

"I Keep Looking" is such a random winner. "Saints & Angels" outperformed it in her rankdown so it irks me that the positions were switched here, especially since I prefer S&A, but I'm all for Sara Evans winning another YE rankdown here. Definitely a surprising outcome for me, but I am happy with it.

OMG!!!! Not at all what I was expecting, but I am SO here for it! I always knew that Sara's Born To Fly album would be a rankdown juggernaut when these early '00s rankdowns happened, but all along I was expecting "I Keep Looking" to be the only single from that album that never stood a chance of winning. I figured it might be the one that merely makes the top 5, while the other 3 singles all contend for the top 2 in their various rankdowns. I could not have been more wrong, apparently!! I am totally expecting "Born To Fly" and "I Could Not Ask For More" to dominate when we get to the 2001 rankdown If "I Keep Looking" can do it, there really isn't anything stopping those two, other than the potential for overplay burnout! (Or the off chance that raylatch decides to participate... )
Also, I feel like this makes things a whole lot more interesting for Sara's future album series! I figured the Born To Fly album would be pretty straightforward with how the singles played out, but this rankdown is showing me that there really isn't a whole lot of consistency with how the singles from this album stack up against each other on Pulse! I do still fully expect "I Keep Looking" to be the lowest single from that album... How insane is it that a year-end rankdown winner might not even be a top 3 contender on its respective studio album?!?

Also tim , it sucks that "Run" seems perpetually destined to finish at #2, but I would be SHOCKED if it doesn't become a rankdown winner when we get to the Road Less Traveled album rankdown (I mean, it makes sense logically! In the George Strait rankdown it finished at #3. In this one it finished at #2. It's only logical that it would finish at #1 the next time it's in a rankdown ;) )

lol I actually switched both George songs at the last minute! (i.e. had LALW as my #1 before switching it out for Run; love both of them to death tho!) I also really enjoy "I Keep Looking" so I have zero complaints at all about how this turned out. Thanks for the phenomenal music sabre14! Had a blast listening to them for the most part!

Oh dang, I would kill to get to hear "Run" on the radio!! The only George Strait song that exists around here from that time period is "Write This Down".

Damn, our station hasn’t played “Run” in years. Only ones we spin at all anymore are his new single, “Here For a Good Time”, “Carrying Your Love With Me” and “Check Yes or No”, and that’s usually when we have request shows. I would love for us to play “Run” too much lol.

4. Which female sung song will place the highest? I Keep Looking
5. Which male sung song will place the highest? Run
This held up better than I expected. lol I was more shocked to learn that "I Keep Looking" missed the top 10 in the Sara rankdown than that it won this one. I've always considered it one of her definitive songs (at radio at least), maybe a step below Born To Fly. Kind of bummed "Run" didn't win, but IKL is a good song as well. A few other observations: I'm glad that all the hate for RF didn't keep "These Days" from a deserved top 10 finish. It's my favorite song of the past 20 years - the chorus is so so strong and I've always loved the 2nd verse as well. Just a perfect fit for Gary Levox's voice, and a reminder of how good those guys were with Mark Bright producing. "Long Time Gone" has such prescient lyrics, just a masterclass of a song. Kind of surprised "Red Ragtop" lasted so long, but it's a really strong song. The lyrics tell such a vivid story, I'm glad it did well. "Saints & Angels" was the weakest of the top 5 for me. Good song, like most all of Sara's output from that era, but it doesn't rise to the level of her best IMO. Thrilled to see "I Don't Have To Be Me" land in the top 3. Such a great, universal song that still gets played to this day. It's too bad that Steve could never step out of the shadow of this song, he's such a unique talent, but at least radio didn't forget this one.
