Lol. This literally sounds like a Backstreet Boys album cut back in the day.
The title of this song was meant for more.

In the live performance, one of the guitar guys was really happy lol

I was thinking it sounds like late 90s boybands while watching SNL last night. They were catchy though. As I said over in Random Thoughts, Leann Rimes could finally release Can’t Stop The Moonlight to country radio and it could smash. It was super poppy back in 2001 but would totally fit in now - except she doesn’t have a penis.

Don't threaten me with a good time literally made my ears hurt and I had to turn it off in the first 30 seconds...........and I sometimes listen voluntarily to top 40 radio, and still couldn't deal

This looks to have debuted at #28 on Mediabase this week. Pretty lofty debut for a single that was released to radio on a Friday. It's also the highest radio debut of his career.

Yikes, the new song with Little Big Town is absolute ear-rape. What a mess. Thomas Rhett would find a way to ruin the promise of having LBT featured on one of his songs. :X

It obviously wasn't going to get much longevity on streaming.
Spotify US: #102 (-23) - 328,091 (-99,888)
But that is a really great radio start, and sales are doing great.
The song with Little Big Town is #21, and this is #3 overtaking "Please Me" by Cardi B & Bruno Mars.

Most added song of the week with 130 adds! I think this is probably Thomas Rhett's highest add date for any of his singles.

Not trying to be a smart ass , not here to bash him , but honestly when do you think his music will just be considered pop? I mean this is pretty much 3 album cycles worth of mostly heavy pop music. Heavy as is not remotely resembling country. This almost screams Taylor Swift. Categorically could just be screwing with other artists. Just my 2 cents. Not my cup of tea at all
Also , again not bashing it , I know he’s talented and has a fan base , just curious at what point is this not considered country , because it’s almost a mockery

He's not popular enough to go on pop stations. Also, I'm pretty sure even songs like "Marry Me" or "Sixteen" wouldn't work all that well on pop radio. There's also the southern accent. How often do you hear southern accents on pop radio?

If I was a betting man, I’d bet it sounds exactly like his last 10+ singles. And what would that sound like? Because his music has been all over the map, from “Sixteen” to “Life Changes” to “Craving You” to “Vacation”, he really doesn’t have any particular “sound”. Yeah just a bunch of average pop music, like the next album will be. Nothing country, nothing creative, just trend following pop music masked in the country genre with a below average singer. IMHO, SMH.

What about "Beer With Jesus", "Star of the Show", "Drink a Little Beer", "The Day You Stop Looking Back", was pop? There's also plenty of his songs that fit into pop country, like "Marry Me", "Sixteen", "Die a Happy Man", "Renegades", and plenty of more.

I get that you and others don’t like the non traditional country sound, but it’s very lazy to make comments like, this is pop music,” or, “this should be played on pop radio,” when really, it sounds nothing like current Pop radio.

Wow, "Sixteen" dropped off the Hot 100... from #69. I get the new song and the album bomb, but I didn't think it lost that fast all of a sudden.

This is a fine song. I like it, don't love it like I do most of his other stuff. I wish that it didnt have the horrible "haters" line, though. The album will be great but I am not here for that Little Big Town collab - that one is a tragedy.

So I'm the only one who prefers the LBT collab over the single then...? lol
Not that that's a great song either but it's fun where's this one is kinda boring and sounds bad.

I think it has a lot more energy and it actually sounds like it could be a country song without all of the pop production. Edit: 20 page breaks were inserted into my post somehow

IMHO, SMH. I understand that most likely you don’t like Pop music, so you won’t know this so not blaming you. If you turn on a Pop station, Thomas Rhett would stick out like a sore thumb. I get that you and others don’t like the non traditional country sound, but it’s very lazy to make comments like, this is pop music,” or, “this should be played on pop radio,” when really, it sounds nothing like current Pop radio. As a lover of traditional country music and a hater of modern pop-country, let me do my best to give a fair and balanced reply. You make a great point that Thomas Rhett (and other pop-country artists) would stick out like a sore thumb on a pop station. This is because today's pop-country is really less a marriage of traditional country + modern pop than it is the extension of a certain flavor of pop or pop/soft rock which was popular 10-15 years ago (I'm thinking of artists like John Mayer, Jason Mraz, Train, Colbie Caillat, Gavin DeGraw, etc). Pop music has since moved on to incorporate more hip-hop, leaving a void in the music market which Nashville has decided to fill by pumping out a new brand of pop-country. Seriously, listen to #1 hits by Devin Dawson or Jimmie Allen, then listen to Gavin DeGraw or John Mayer. If anything the pop/rock artists are more acoustic. This move by mainstream country is reminiscent of the mid 50's, which Elvis and Rock-n-Roll took over the pop market, and country morphed from rough honky-tonk to the smooth string bands of the Nashville Sound to appeal to pop listeners who were no longer getting the smooth pop style they enjoyed. None of this is inherently good or bad - music evolves, markets change, and sometimes the evolution in one genre causes a domino effect into other genres. Where it becomes bad is when a large listener market is no longer being served by a genre which claims to be serving them. This is what we see today with "traditional" country fans (which is rapidly coming to mean anyone who prefers the style of country music pre-2010). Unlike the 50's, where Buck Owens and the Bakersfield Sound provided an alternative to the Nashville Sound, modern mainstream country is a mostly monolithic genre. In the same way that Thomas Rhett would stick out on pop radio, I'd make the case a song about a broken heart featuring prominent fiddle, steel, and a drum kit would stick out like a sore thumb on country radio. All this to say, just because a song would sound out of place on the pop dial today, doesn't mean it's not more stylistically similar to pop music than country music, as the genres have historically been understood. Bringing it back to "Look What God Gave Her", I hear it and think it's recycled pop from yesteryear with some southern twang in the vocals. Maybe that wouldn't fit on today's pop radio. But where you're argument is true on the micro scale (this song fits better as modern country than modern pop on today's radio dial), my argument is focused on the macro (the style of these types of songs are better defined broadly as pop than country). Hopefully this adds a bit more nuance and helps everybody see where the other side is coming from.

I think it's hilarious that the same people who can say that this is NOT pop because pop music is so definitively defined are the ones who say that this IS country because country can't be definitively defined...when the very nature of pop is "popular."
I'd say this sounds a lot more like what's being played there than "Beautiful Crazy," "She Ain't in It," "Every Little Honky Tonk Bar," "What Makes You Country," "Drowns the Whiskey," "Girl Goin' Nowhere," "I Lived It," "Mercy," "Speechless," "Good as You," "On My Way To You"...

By me saying it's not pop, does not mean I am saying it is country. Please do not put words in my mouth. I can kind of hear this being compared to the new Jonas Brothers song, but other than that, what current pop songs does this sound like? You listed a bunch of country songs it doesn't sound like, but I can list of bunch of ones it does. "Take It From Me," "One That Got Away," "Eyes On You" etc.
