#18. Eli Young Band - "When It Rains"
Total Points: 805 Average: 42.3 Year Released: August 27th, 2007 (first charted), October 22nd, 2007 (Carnival), April 29th, 2008 (Republic/Universal South) Mediabase Peak: #32 Billboard Peak: #34
Rankings:
Following:
"When it rains some people get down sporting a frown"
"When it Rains" was first recorded by the Eli Young Band in 2005 for their Level album. The song was written by lead guitarist James Young. They were a known commodity in their native Texas before the song charted for the first time in late August of 2007, based on play from Dallas stations. The song also was picked up by a Colorado station, after its PD saw the original music video on GAC. The song's label was the Carnival Recording Company. After charting on and off for 21 weeks on Billboard, the Eli Young Band was signed to a joint deal between Republic and Universal South and the song finally saw major label promotion in April of 2008 -- it also was re-recorded. It peaked at #32 on Mediabase in August. After a radio tour, they got their first top 10 MB hit with "Always the Love Songs" in 2009. They moved to Republic Nashville in 2011. This song is the reason that Eli Young Band got a major label deal. Who knows what happens without it. I've always loved this song and it's a shame it didn't reach the top 30. It's weeks charting and lack of a national radio tour were the reasons. It's so different but in a good way. Love the creativity in its songwriting.

"When It Rains" is also the highest placing non-top 10 song in the rankdown.
The top 17 all made the top 10 on the radio chart.

This is like my favorite EYB song and I'm still the second-lowest rank for it.

I was wondering how I knew it so well if it peaked so low and I read you say it was played on Dallas stations! It's the song I relate the "Eli Young Band" to.
I should've ranked it higher, the same goes to We Weren't Crazy.

You mean Jimmy Wayne is still in this thing?!?
I suspect he'll miss out on the top ten along with Trace, Jason, "Letter to Me" and maybe "I Saw God Today"? Gary may end up missing the top ten as well.

Wow Jimmy still being here is surprising.
I'm going to guess these 5 will miss. "Do You Believe Me Now" "In Color" "Laughed Until We Cried" "I Saw God Today" "Don't Think I Don't Think About It"
I've got 1, 4, 18, 25, 32, 38, 39, 41, 42, 48, 52, 80, 102, 104, 105
I'm okay with up to my 32 winning. Any lower I don't think deserves it personally, though anything from 52 up I can live with I guess.

I have left: 2, 10, 15, 19, 23, 28, 29, 30, 31, 36, 38, 42, 52, 57, 78
I'll predict these will miss out on the top 10:
Do You Believe Me Now All-American Girl Laughed Until We Cried What Kinda Gone Watching Airplanes

With so many top 10's left, I knew I was due for a few hits. Just happy EYB and Josh could make top 20. "We Weren't Crazy" was one of my favorite songs of the decade - just such a terrific melody and I always loved Josh's voice. "When It Rains" is such a unique and well written song - James Young is a brilliant songwriter.
I can't believe Jimmy Wayne is still around - I thought he'd be gone long ago. Aside from that, it feels like a fairly representative top 15. I've got 2, 3, 7, 12, 17, 18, 22, 23, 26, 30, 47, 63, 70, 103, 118. As long as one of the bottom 4 don't win I'll be happy.
Aside from Jimmy Wayne, I'll guess Troubadour, Gunpowder & Lead, In Color, & What Kinda Gone miss the top 10.

@ LBTrocks being one of the lowest ranks for a Montgomery Gentry song. I know you were wanting it out forever ago, and even I was like, damn "Back When I Knew It All" has severely overstayed lmao. I *like* it up to a point... but it's easily one of my least fav MG songs. The instrumentation is a total clunker for me... hate the harmonica and the melody it's playing.

Cheater, Cheater is my highest first listen. Love the bluegrass-influenced melody and vengeance in it.
When It Rains is probably the best single I have heard from them. Great dark vibe.
Still love the rare falsetto from Dierks in Trying To Stop Your Leaving!
My top 6 is still intact, but my #14, #15, #27, #42, #56, #67, #70, #78 and #88 are still here.
My prediction for 5 songs to miss Top 10:
George Strait - "I Saw God Today" Jimmy Wayne - "Do You Believe Me Now?" Darius Rucker - "Don't Think I Don't Think About It" Jason Aldean - "Laughed Until We Cried" Chris Cagle - "What Kinda Gone"

I ADORE "When It Rains" so much... ugh, I thought I was gonna be a huge Eli Young Band fan based on that, but then they got success and their music soon turned to mainstream drivel for me
However, "When It Rains" is just fantastic on every level for me. Musically it's GORGEOUS, so dark and haunting and beautiful. I love the lyrics.... they gut me. This is how I felt after my grandma and aunt died. Such an incredible song.
"Cheater Cheater" is a total JAM!!!! Glad it did as well as it did. 'Cheater cheater where'd you meet that no good white trash HO!' lmaooooo LOVE IT!!!! Favorite lyric! I love the word ho so much, haha. Anytime it's in a song I'm gonna love that song lol.

Simple catchy, earcandy that never gets old all these years later from radio playing it.
Also one of my favorite music videos from her.

#12. Brad Paisley - "Waitin' On A Woman"
Total Points: 722 Average: 38.0 Year Released: June 23rd, 2008 Mediabase Peak: #1 Billboard Peak: #1 Rankings:zaclord 🌈 - 2 recordyear - 4 rgreen0625 - 5 sabre14 - 5 tim - 9 Cody Wants Out... - 10 raylatch98 - 14 someguy - 21 ClevelandRox - 26 bboat11 - 27 .indulgecountry - 36 Kanenrá:ke - 39 austin - 46 kw9461 - 47 George Strait Junkie - 51 CoJoFan - 54 castleoblivion26 - 90 toomuchboy - 113 LBTrocks - 123 Following: bigfan101 carriefan15 "Waitin' On A Woman" was released as a single in June of 2008 off Brad Paisley's 5th Gear album, which was a late inclusion on his deluxe version. The song reached #1 in September. It was originally included on Brad's Time Well Wasted album in 2005. The song was written by Wynn Varble and Don Sampson -- a rare song Brad has no hand in writing. After "I'm Still a Guy", Brad and his label thought a few songs got left behind on Time Well Wasted and with the Play album on the horizon and a new studio album not due until 2009, they had a window to give a song they always loved on Time Well Wasted a chance at radio.
What's ironic, is the exact same month, Keith Urban and Capitol Nashville decided to do the same thing with a re-recorded version of "You Look Good in My Shirt", which was originally off Keith's 2002 album, Golden Road.
The title track on Time Well Wasted I always thought should have been a single but "Waitin' On a Woman" was close behind. I was thrilled when they decided to release this, off a previous album and something I wish more artists/labels did -- especially if the artist is big enough, which Brad was back in 2008. I adore the lyrics, production and music to "Waitin' On a Woman." When I was growing up, my mom was sooo slow getting ready and late for any appointment. My fiancee also takes a long time to get ready lol. I think this song is not only true, but it's written in a way to not be mean, but charming and understanding.

"Do You Believe Me Now" is the cockroach of the rankdown and I am kind of loving everyone's bewilderment of it staying.
That being said the winner should be between "Letter To Me", "Just a Dream", and "Love Don't Live Here".

Not sad to see any of these go, but "Waitin' On A Woman" and "Don't Think I Don't Think About It" are particularly dreadful and both overstayed.
I'm good with the top 10 overall... minus "You're Gonna Miss This" and "In Color" - I'm less upset about "In Color" still being in tho because I do really love the lyrics, it's just musically and vocally it's awful to me lol.
"Do You Believe Me Now?" can go after those two, lol.
