1. Which Johnny Cash song do you think finished above the other one? “Folsom Prison Blues”
2. In the match-up of Glen Campbell songs, which one prevailed? “Gentle On My Mind”
3. Which Townes Van Zandt song scored highest? “Pancho & Lefty”
4. The #50 was pretty obvious throughout the submission process. What did it end up being? “Grandfater” or “Camouflage”
5. Which songs will be the most polarizing in this rankdown? I have no idea what to expect so maybe something like “The Lucky One”
6. Which contingent will be the happiest about the results--the core "country posters", or the non-"country posters"? Probably non-country posters

No one guessed the "obvious" #50 correctly. In one way, I see why, since none of you actually went as far as ranking it last. But in another way, I was expecting one of you to just stumble upon the answer by guessing your bottom 10s at random, since all but 4 of you put this there, and most importantly, it couldn't get a single top half ranking. I hate when this happens in one of my rankdowns, and I'm thinking I could've avoided Little Feat falling to this fate, too. Their most popular song overall is probably "Willin'", but that was off the table because I simply don't like it quite enough to put in a personal RD. In terms of specifically uptempos--which is what I was aiming for--this is one of their more popular, but it seems like that didn't translate to Pulse's taste. Luckily, rankdowns aren't done with Little Feat, as they were surprisingly big on the Mainstream Rock format back in the late 80s. 50

This song, though, I don't regret choosing, and its finish makes me disappointed in all of you >:( Breeze seemed liked it would meet the same fate, barring my own ranking, as Dixie Chicken, until a few fans showed up late. I sort of understand why people might hesitate to rank this high. It's simple, very mellow, not a whiff of high concept or extreme emotion to be found, and it uses a drum machine. It also may be overshadowed by future covers, like Lynyrd Skynyrd's, in the minds of some. But I just love the comfort and subtle beauty of the arrangement and production, combined with Cale's guitar talent on display, the catchy melody, and the locked-in rhythm. All elements contribute to making the song endlessly replayable to me. 49

Alright, first two reveals weren't fun for me for different reasons. But with those burdens lifted, the reveals get more fun. This was a song I wasn't expecting anything of. It's really old, not held up as a classic by most, and the subject matter + delivery of, I figured would be offputting. So this song finding some high rankers was a pleasant surprise. This song is completely ridiculous and kitschy on its face, but its also incredibly infectious, and may inspire complex feelings when you think about its cultural context and the strange directions its lyrics take, contrasted with the peppy music and melody. 48

There are ancient country songs that should be going out before this one.

When you think about Bob Dylan's general style before this album, giving a more direct take on the country genre doesn't seem as farfetched as it does on the surface. And for at least one song, the approach proved very fruitful. 47

I'm more of a casual Gram Parsons fan, but I knew I had to involve him in this rankdown. Emmylou Harris, the uncredited harmonist on this song, still has a song in the game, so don't weep for her yet. 46

Yeah, "Rawhide" is one of the two that I didn't care for, sadly. It's okay, but its age really shows.
"Our Town" is just a nice, nice song.

Keep in mind the songs in the lowest spots were 3/5.
I couldn't remember anything about Call Me the Breeze which meant that it would lose any tiebreakers. Sorry.
Was skeptical by the title of The Great Atomic Power, but then the harmonies kicked in. Pleasant surprise.
Might have overrated Return of the Grievous Angel a tad. But a solid song.
My Heart Skips a Beat was another one that grew on me as I was listening. Having remembered Owens as one of the co-hosts of Hee-Haw, it's nice to hear him sing.
The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance was a bit of a disappointment in comparison to the other songs. Great film, though.
I'll have you know that I watched Rawhide reruns when I was younger. But Rawhide was a decent song, but yeah, too many good discoveries to go much higher.
Our Town was a nice find. Iris had a very pleasant voice and it had the feel of a proper country song (in how it told its story).
Haven't seen The Wire. Feel Alright was solid, but this round was PACKED.

Despite these results look quite random to me they don't hurt as much as I thought, except Rawhide, which is absolutely fire in this list through the western character and hyper vocal performance. Also singingrulebritannia can't believe that you missed the controversy between Miranda's Kerosene and Steve's Feel Alright!

In other news, I hope I really start to lose some bottom 10s bc this is already the worst I've done in a Gates hosted rd lol

Possibly the best lyrics in this rankdown. There's a reason Spiritualized quoted the chorus in " Cop Shoot Cop". 40

A solid song, to be sure...but (fill in the blank).
