New music from The Weeknd is seemingly imminent.
Could have sworn I saw a thread for this already...but not finding it now if so.

So he is totally nonurban now and dedicated dance artist. I think he’s honestly doing whatever the fuck he wants. Blinding Lights”, “Heartless” and “Scared to Live” are all on one LP. You don’t know how the whole LP will sound

So this might not be the lead single from the album at all, right?

So he is totally nonurban now and dedicated dance artist. Why would you ever want to put any artist in a box, limiting them to one genre? Real artists don't fit into boxes, they explore the endless possibilities OUTSIDE of the box. Not all of these explorations will be loved by all, or as commercially successful as others, and that's ok. That's art. Don't pigeonhole him because he's been exploring his own take on a sound that he loves. He's clearly not ONLY doing that, and like all human beings, he has phases. Free yourself from your own box, you one-eyed turd.

Now you're putting the urban radio listener into a box. Just because some of his music doesn't fit on urban playlists doesn't mean those listeners aren't listening to it on pop stations or, more likely, on streaming platforms. People are able to discern what music they like or don't like and listen or not listen, accordingly, with or without radio.

They did it in the 70ies, 80ies and 90ies.

Why cannot Urban radio play urban leaning dance music`? They did it in the 70ies, 80ies and 90ies. Because it's 2021 and that's not what they play anymore? I don't understand the question. The Weeknd's signature Urban sound went out at Urban radio awhile ago. Not sure why he should be concerned with a niche radio format in the US when he's a huge international act now. And he just released a pop/dance song that is literally the biggest song of all time. Of course he should continue dabbling in that sound. Doesn't mean he's a dance artist. His past couple of albums have had a solid mix of Urban/Pop material and I'm sure this album will continue that trend.

It's not even like The Weeknd is struggling success wise, let him release what he wants and let it be sent to the right formats for airplay.
Whenever he next wants to push a more Urban/R&B song let that get sent to the Urban format.
Besides he has You Right in the top 30 right now on Urban.

Worrying about The Weeknd's music not fitting into certain radio formats is very outdated thinking... He's a global superstar, and will have major streaming numbers and hype. He doesn't need to cater to certain formats with his music.
