The song just premiered on BBC Radio 1 and the video just premiered as well. It has a bit of an unusual song structure and doesn't really strike me as a radio single. I wasn't expecting such an understated first single from this band, either. I have no idea how well this will do on any format.

No way is this an actual radio single. This would bomb. Hopefully itβs just a promotional tune because itβs really not that good.

produced by Jack Antonoff and features backing vocals from Michelle Zauner of Japanese Breakfast.

Jack Antonoff production has been the kiss of death the last two years. I hear it on this track too. Itβs just weird sounding, lacks a strong hook. Itβs okay but itβs directionless and boring like almost everything Antonoff has been producing lately.

Iβm hoping itβs just a promo track like βPeopleβ basically was. This is the reason Too Shy failed, that shouldβve been Single #1. Itβs Not Living shouldβve been single #1 on ABIIOR. Alt wouldβve sent both of those songs top 10 in an alternate universe.

There is a melody in the verses popping its head like a gopher on a golf field, but nothing of the rest of the song works for me. I do love the sound of the strings tho.

Where to start? Equally disappointed by whatever move The 1975 and Death Cab are putting out there this summer.
To whomever mentioned Jack Antonoff being the βkiss of deathβ is correct, and do not understand how record execs and bands arenβt seeing this. His sound of production, which is unique, is not taking off like how many of the bands he conned into working with him assumed it would. I genuinely believe they looked at this sound of organic, throwback production being the next thing to rock, however it is completely falling flat on itβs face.
Antonoff is prolific, but his latest efforts are failing miserably. Itβs one of the more interesting dynamics Iβve seen the past twenty years.
Anyways, one of my favorite bands, but this isnβt good.

I wasn't too big on NFR or (god i apologize for this take), Melodrama when I heard the albums in full. They felt bland outside of a few tracks. This new 1975 track isn't that special to me either :(

Right, I pray this doesnβt flop as hard as Melodrama, I mean what a disaster. Feel like the only song you ever hear recurrent is βTeamβ. Another day, another discussion.
Japanese Breakfast is excellent, but there is no need to throw her/them into this.
I just donβt get it. I feel this song is a big βthis is the best we came up with, so we got Jack to help on itβ sometime a year ago or so when he was doing everything and now bands have to unfortunately use the material they paid good money to have Antonoff work with them on.
Very worried about this album.

This is gorgeous, one of their best.
Iβm not fussed if it does well or not, but itβs been holding up pretty well on streaming so far in the UK.
Interesting how different the reception is on here and Indieheads though!

Bon Iver, Vampire Weekend, baroque-pop Coldplay done in the style of Wilco, a wordier Bleachers track. Which does it most closely emulate?

VW the βGracelandyβ bridge and strings I like the Coldplay comparison. Screw Wilco. The song is fine but indeed reminds me of like a βTrack 12β filler on the album. What makes The 1975 relatable for most is their personal lyrics. Falling in love with some dude in the Air Force who was βkinda lameβ just makes this seem like some bizarre written song. It doesnβt seem like one of theirs. Itβs kind of the feeling of βweβre this many albums in, so we can do things like this and people canβt criticize the experimentationβ. Itβs fine.

The 1975 have had such a weird trajectory for me. I've long time considered them the ultimate hit or miss band with me, I've always said that 90% of 1975 songs are annoying and unlikable, but the ones that I actually like are excellent. But over the past couple of years, they've had so many singles that I not I only love, but rank among my favorite songs of the past decade (Love Me, Somebody Else, If You're Too Shy, Love It If We Made It, People, It's Not Living are all so good), that I've begrudgingly become an active fan of this band. I get more excited for their new singles more than just about anyone else on the alt chart.
All that said, I'm not too sure how I feel about this one. I like the baroque instrumental, but the song just doesn't feel all that cohesive. I could see this one growing on me a lot, or remaining a mystery to me. Time will tell.

This will probably have a similar chart run as "Give Yourself a Try", me thinks, on alt at least.

I looked up these lyrics and they are pretty wacked. They probably make little sense to no one but Matty Healy and are pure cringe to sing a long to. There is a line where he mentions two poets although to my ears it sounds like he says "Rambo" LOL!

genuinely surprised the reactions on here are so negative because i think this is pretty good. def a weird choice for a first single but it's still more radio friendly then their last lead (people) so i feel like we shouldn't be so surprised
what's their chart history on aaa like ? i feel like this'll scrape the top 30 on alt, maybe top 25 if they're lucky, but this sounds taylor made for that format

As the lyrics suggests one is in fact Rimbaud and the other Paul Verlaine. who in fact became lovers just like in the song. In that context it starts to make sense.
