The βhigh noteβ line is catchy and thatβs it. Even then, the high note in question is, like, middle C π

I like the song a lot, but I wouldn't be surprised to see this fall off the chart already. The couple of times I've heard this on the radio, I've noticed they tiptoe around even saying the title (it's just announced as "It's Lil Nas X, and it's that brand new one he has!" or something of that nature). The whole point of the song is the "J Christ" gimmick, so it makes it kinda pointless to listen to if they're going to censor the title.
I was also kind of horrified that the radio edit (or at least the edit my station plays) actually mutes the word "gays" out of "I'm gonna get the gays hyped." I get not wanting to offend your audience, but it's ridiculous and offensive to be censoring that word in 2024 imo.

I mean why would anyone be surprised to see this drop? Disaster level streams, week one deals done, hype non existent, youtube numbers bad, sales tanking... as soon as it tanked day one it was clearly gonna be a one week wonder on radio like previous rejected lead singles from radio darlings like "Yummy"

Iβll give this song another 2 or so more weeks of lingering just outside the top 20 before it starts tanking.

Some activists consider 'gays' as divisive, exclusionary and, specifically, anti-trans. It's tied to the growing worldwide movement of L + G activists who want *out* of LGBTQ+ because they believe it has damaged the gay-rights cause. Yes, this is a real thing. I was shocked when I started seeing multiple articles about it. Sadly, hate exists in all forms.

Sadly, hate exists in all forms. as a trans person who spends a lot of time around other trans / queer people i've literally never met someone who is against other queer folk using "the gays" as a catchall. not saying these people don't exist, just saying they're a vocal minority and if that's seriously the reason the stations are giving for bleeping out that phrase that strikes me as disingenuous and probably just an excuse to appeal to population of gay haters, who not coincidentally are likely one of the only demographics so behind the times that they still listen to the radio

As a straight male I always say LBGTQ+⦠I feel the plus encompasses anyone else who wants to be included⦠I never felt that was offensive, but as someone who is not apart of the culture I am willing to learn⦠I do have some family members/friends who are gay and nobody has corrected me yet

Is it safe to lock this thread now? I haven't seen any updates in a while and there is no new information about it, to my knowledge.
