Oh she will. Splitchick is right. She managed to win a Grammy last year for R&B Duo for that album track she did with Stevie Wonder
Then she was even nominated in R&B female! The other nominees were Mariah Carey, Amerie, and Fantasia with their singles. But Beyonce is so loved by them, that a song she put on a soundtrack that wasnt a single got nominated!!

I concur. I said he would win AOTY the week his album was released. Not only this award, I think he'll win a few that night.

Don't count out Rascal Flatts for a nomination for "What Hurts The Most" in the Record Of The Year catagory.

I was thinking about that, but I wasnt sure. Country songs normally get nominated in Song of The Year, but WHTM is a cover right? And I think covers cant be nominated for SOTY?

I doubt a song first released by the girl from S-Club 7 will get a nomination for Record or Song of the Year, when even the Rascal Flatts version sucks. If Garth Brooks took it, wasn't it written for him, in the first place- then maybe.

I dont think it was released by the S Club 7 Girl in the USA. And she didnt sing it originally anyway, it was by Mark Willis at first.

I think if it was between "What Hurts the Most" and "Jesus, Take the Wheel" for the 'country entry' in the SOTY category, JTTW would take the slot. If the Nashville component of NARAS is composed mostly of the same bigwigs of the CMA and ACM, JTTW would get the vote. WHTM wasn't even nominated for Song, or Single, of the Year at the CMA Awards. JTTW was nominated for both, and for both the ACM and CMA Awards.

For best new artist, contenders would be: James Blunt Gnarls Barkley Arctic Monkeys Natasha Bedingfield Chris Brown The Fray Ne-Yo Panic! At The Disco Daniel Powter Corinne Bailey Rae Rihanna KT Tunstall Carrie Underwood T.I. (did I miss anyone?)
--which I would narrow down to-- James Blunt/KT Tunstall (foreign artist slot, with James as the frontrunner) Chris Brown (he's been winning the awards equivalent to the BNA in his genre) Gnarls Barkley Carrie Underwood (country slot) (and a group... I can't decide which one yet)

The Fray and Carrie Underwood are also possibilities. The rest really have no chance.

But I dont think they will be nominated anyway lol But T.I? Huh? That guy's been out forever! Natasha and Rihanna broke through this year, but theyre not new artists. Natasha even announced the Grammy nods last year (but was shut out!). But then again, sometimes artists like Ciara and Alicia Keys defy deadlines, so I dont know, they might make an exception. And then there was some artist awhile back, who had released stuff for years, but never "broke through" before.

How did Jo's verison do chart wise?
btw I meant to say Song of the Year and not Record Of The Year although I don't see why it couldn't get a record nod. They really screwed up the CMA awards by skipping "What Hurts The Most" in Single Of The Year, Song Of The Year, and Video Of The Year.

At the very least, it should have taken the place of Summertime for Single. Come on, Summertime?!! For Single of the Year??! And it could have taken the slot of Jesus, Take the Wheel for Video. I'm a Carrie fan, but even I have to admit that that video was far from brilliant.

I think Bob Dylan will win Album of The Year. That is the feeling I get as well. His latest album has been getting great reviews. He is a traditional Grammy favorite and there really is no clear cut breakthrough album this year. In the absence of the transcendent huge selling or trend setting album, the winner most likely will be a traditional Grammy favorite.

I think the best new artist will clearly be between, KT Tunstall, Corinne Bailey Rae, Raconteurs, and Ne-Yo. I really don't see how KT Tunstall won't win either, it's been a pretty off year for new artists.

Corrine Bailey Rae? In terms of foreigners invading the charts this year, she's so off the radar. I mean if there werent that many this year, Id agree.

It will be interesting to see if Carrie gets a BNA nomination. Hopefully she will but I have a feeling that they don't really look at AI contestants as contenders for BNA but since her debut has sold so well, perhaps they might make an exception.
I do believe James Blunt will win no matter what though. He's the John Legend of this year. Piano playing, songwriting etc. Plus he had a huge hit with "beautiful" like John did with Ordinary people. Most everyone loved both songs.
I also would love Corrine Bailey Rae in BNA, I love her song "Put your records on". Grammy's love folks with her type of sound, reminds me of Norah Jones.

Corrine's album is managing to sell steadily over several months and she has some hype and support from VH1. i can't see her winning best new artist, but i wouldn't be surprised if she was nominated.

I agree that James Blunt is the clear frontrunner and the "expected winner" for the BNA, but although Carrie may be under the radar of the general public, she has had an extraordinarily successful year.
Album Sales - 3.38M and counting - virtually a lock for Billboard Album of the year (#1 on the Billboard year sales chart with no serious threat in the 9 weeks remaining) - #4 in the calendar year sales chart; best-selling album by a solo female in ANY genre so far
Radio Play - 2 #1 country singles (JTTW- #1 for a record-tying 6 weeks on Billboard, 5 weeks on R&R; DFTRM- #1 for 1 week on R&R before the big merge with Billboard) - the only solo female to reach #1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart this year and with the longest run at #1 for ANY country artist this year
Industry Awards * Gospel Music Association Awards - JTTW wins for Country Recorded Song of the Year
* Academy of Country Music Awards - most nominated female with 4 nods (Single, Song, Top New Female Vocalist, Female Vocalist of the Year) of which she won 2 (Single and Top New Female)
* Music Row Critics' Pick Award * NARM Breakout Country Artist of the Year Award
* Country Music Association Awards - most nominated female with 4 nods (Single, Video, Horizon, Female Vocalist of the Year) w/ the awards show scheduled for November 6th. Plus, JTTW was also nominated for Song of the Year which, for this awards show, is given to the songwriters
Again, Carrie may not be the "It" girl of 2006 in terms of having the most buzz in the mainstream music world, but she is indisputably Nashville's "It" girl and if NARAS has a significant Nashville component, then Carrie should definitely get a nod... and deservedly so. To heck with being an AI!
(Whew! That was a long post... and that's not even a complete list of her accolades this year)

Justin should get noms for Album Of The Year, Record Of The Year, Male Pop Vocal, and Pop Album, and Pop Collaboration.
Beyonce should get noms for R&B Female Vocal (Listen), R&B Contemp. Album, R&B Song (Listen), Best Rap/Sung Collabo (Deja Vu), and maybe in some major category.
I hope Beyonce can walk away with atleast one this year to make her total 10!

If they really want to push it, they could also push Beyonce to get nominated for Best Pop Vocal (some R&B singers double dip in both pop and R&B sometimes) with Irreplaceable, and Best Song Written For A Movie with Listen, and Best Traditional R&B with Resentment (like Mariah did with Mine Again)

I think Carrie and The Fray are catching up quickly in the BNA field. I'm not so sure that Blunt is the overwhelming favorite in the category any longer.
