Fergie sent Alanis flowers to congratulate her and thank her. I am not denying Alanis's work in the 90s , but she did also try to transform in to sexy in her leather outfits and didn't make it. So if she indeed is trying to put down the women using sexy to sell, she did try it herself and it didn't work. I also have to say that Alanis seems to want attention. She was the joke on Best Week Ever a few weeks ago, asking for "privacy' about her break up with Ryan. The joke is, no one was covering it, no one is following her, she is living in privacy already! But anyway, hope her new CD is a good one. ??? She wasn't trying to be sexy, IT WAS A JOKE. The reason the video has been so popular is not because of how sexy she is in the video, but because of the parody she is making of hip-hop and popular music. And how does she want attention? She never intended for this to get put on youtube and become a huge hit.

Good on her. Her music has been awesome. And yet after her first album, it wasn't given the proper recognition. Shame. Good for her. I love you so much Alanis!

She was "Canada's Debbie Gibson" before she got "deep", and her last CD was an attempt at a sexy image with leather and a different look. I just think this is a stupid thing for a so called legend to do.

It has nothing to do with being sexy. And yes, she is a legend. Any person who has lived and experienced music through the 90's would agree. If you dont appreciate music over that long a spell, then thats your loss.

Alanis is the biggest female artist of the 90's. She hardly needs to do this to get attention. She debuts in the Top 10 with every album regardless of how her first single does, she has nothing to prove to anyone, she doesnt need to pull a stunt to get attention. It is Alanis Morissette, people wake up, 16 million on one record, countless hits, she is bigger than Britney, Christina, all of them, her influence will never be forgotten. She IS a legend in music.
I love Alanis! I really do! But I hate when people get all defensive and say stuff like "She's a legend" and "She did this with sales" or "She had the biggest selling album" blah blah blah. She did but that was then and this is now. Unfortunately, most people don't care about Alanis anymore. This is the first thing she's done that it seems people have cared about that otherwise wouldn't care about her since her second album. When people think of Alanis, they don't think of her current CDs, they'll think of her in the mid-90s but I think this video is giving her some much needed attention. I don't know whether it was done as an attempt to get attention or just as a joke but either way, I think tons of people that don't even like Alanis (a friend of mine, for example) thought it was great for various reasons. It's just a funny song and a funny video that is being analyzed way too much for being a sad attempt at getting attention. Sad or not, it's working!

I heard about the break up just like I heard about the proposal and stuff. It might not have made front page news like Jessica and Nick did but I think people were interested (for whatever reason, I have no idea!) and Alanis just didn't want to talk about it. She might not be in the public eye much but she's still well known enough to not be able to live as private a life as, say Donna Lewis.

LOL! I think it's funny that just because Alanis had pop/dance music, it somehow takes away from the meaning of the music she made that wasn't manufactured pop. I can see how it might lower her credibility, if it were done afterward but considering she was a teen who also starred in a Canadian television show for teens, it makes sense that she ventured into music as well. But I think the type of music she did shows you just how deep "pop" music can get since it was so different, musically and lyrically from the stuff she made later on. I certainly think she has proven herself enough to make anyone think twice about using her pop music days against her in any way considering she's still considered one of the top songwriters of the last 20 years. But yeah, it's disappointing in a way that it takes a video like My Humps to get her attention over some of the great songs she recorded for her last album (where was this leather that everyone speaks of? What did I miss?)

It's alright. It's similar to the recent stuff she's done, so I'm not too excited at all... Still hoping for better things.

The quality isn't good enough to really tell how the production sounds. I think the full quality version will surprise people. This is Guy Sigsworth! All of his work has 10 million things going on at once. I love how the song is easier to sing along with too. Her voice sounds spectacular!

^^ well, he did produce Britney's Everytime and that's far from being a well produced song IMO.

^^Yes, but he's also done things for Frou Frou, Bjork, and Madonna that are out of this world. He's capable of good things, that's for sure.

I REALLY hope Alanis GROWS with this album. She was my first obsession when she was out with JLAP but ever since then I cant really get in to her stuff, even though I still support and buy every album. Now Im not sayin she doesnt grow or her new stuff isnt good but Id really like a WOW album like JLAP was.

My problem with that album was that she played it too safe in regards to song choices. I remember being at her El Rey Theater show on May of 2001 when she debuted several of the songs from that era (Unprodigal Daughter, 21 Things, Fear of Bliss, Bent 4 U) and they ROCKED!!! It was like she returned to the JLP sound, but when the album was finally released she went with more middle of the road stuff and relegated most of the edgier stuff to the “Feast on Scraps” EP. That was a big mistake and I think her career suffered because of it. URS should have been her return to form. That said, I can’t wait for the new album. “Underneath” is a good sign!

URS is her best album next to JLP imo. She did pick odd singles.. same with the last album imo.

JLP is a classic but SFIJ is an amazing album also. It's completely different and has some of Alanis' best songs. After that, it all went down IMO. I freaking hate Feast On Scraps, it's just horrendous! Ugh! She set the bar too high for herself so I can't accept generic crap like URS and SCC from her. I want GREAT songs, Alanis! Just like the ones you used to do!

I hated URS. So many fans claim that its her best cd or close to her best cd and I just flat out did not like it. I have enjoyed every cd more than that including So Called Chaos.

URS is my least favorite Alanis album, too. I much preferred Feast On Scraps, which conatined many good songs like "Simple Together" and "Sister Blister" that were superior to most songs from URS. Most of those songs had an edge to them that those on URS did not.
I'd love if Alanis could dominate the airwaves as she did in 1995-1996. I know it's never going to happen, but it'd be great if she could have some more success in terms of album sales and singles. No matter what, I'll buy every album Alanis releases because even her worst (URS) is better than many mainstream artists' albums.

URS is my least favourite of Alanis' four studio albums. FoS I thought was neat but I think had they chosen the best from that and URS (and included a few tracks that were left off of BOTH that were GREAT!), then the result could have been an incredible album! I think 'So Called Chaos' is my second favourite CD by her (behind JLP of course). Although I think it should have been more rock instead of pop/rock and I blame John Shanks for that. He popped the CD too much. The songs themselves were awesome tho!
I don't know what direction I want Alanis to go in. All I know is that it'll either be hit or miss and I really can't imagine her doing anything anymore that would super impress me but she did it with SCC so I'm anxiously waiting, just not expecting anything big.

Alanis Morissette Gets Dancey and Personal on Next LP, Plots Next “Humps”-Like Parody
Alanis Morissette is back in the studio working on Flavors of Entanglement, her first new studio album since 2004’s So-Called Chaos. A lot has happened in the interim — including a well-publicized split with her fiancée, actor Ryan Reynolds — and yes, in addition to more vast political concerns, she’s talking about her life on the album. “Writing about my own personal relationships is my favorite thing to do ’cause it’s the only thing I can really comment on with any kind of conviction or authority,” she says. “I guess I could have fictionalized this whole record, but that wouldn’t have been fun for me.”
While Flavors maintains some of So-Called’s buoyant sound, according to Morissette, “There’s a nice cross-section on this one. There’s so much joy and levity … and then there’s kind of rock bottom, ‘Holy s**t, I am a broken woman’ moment.” Morissette tapped Guy Sigsworth (the former Frou Frou member who’s worked with Seal, Björk and Madonna) as a co-writer, with hopes of expanding her sound. “I think there’s more technological aspects to it on a sonic level than ever before,” Morissette tells Rolling Stone. “I love to dance so there’s a lot of loops and beats on this record where you can dance your face off.” Among the songs making the cut are “Underneath,” which deals with communication breakdowns, and “Not As We” (”You know how you can resist hitting rock bottom for a long time? That song just goes ‘ok, I’m going. All the way down’ “). And even though it (accidentally) got her a whole heap of attention, don’t expect the album to feature Alanis’ hilariously mournful version of the Black Eyed Peas’ “My Humps.” “The law is such that whenever I think no one’s going to give a s**t, sometimes, they do. And vice versa, by the way,” she says.
The singer does admit her days of covering nonsensical songs are far from over — but she won’t reveal her next target. “There’s a few songs that have been cracking me up lately that I might have to dabble in,” she says. “Let’s just say [one of them] has to do with misogyny. And I don’t even know the title of the song so I’m not even withholding. I gotta find out and interpret it probably within the next couple weeks.” The Canadian songstress anticipates finishing the album within the same window, and then shifting her focus to some upcoming film projects, like her role in the adaptation of Philip K. Dick’s Radio Free Albemuth, as well as working on a book. (source: Rolling Stone)Sounds promising, especially the dancy stuff! By the way, Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie is 9 years old today!
