So did Carrie technically get a #1 with Last Name? It was #1 over the weekend, right?

I hardly ever check billboard, so I'm glad I asked. Good to see it pull thru, even if it was just a week! A few weeks ago I was scared it was going to peak at around #8!

Just A Dream hasn't been released yet, so I really don't think the label has anything to do with the drop. Sure, they could've given the song extra support to try and get it another week at #1 (although I doubt she could've passed Kenny anyway), but I wouldn't blame the label for the song loosing its bullet. The song peaked almost 2 weeks ago, so it was only a matter of time before it began to descend. It's not like it has fallen off the face of the earth, and it's bullets had been getting smaller the last few weeks anyway.

I can see thinking that the label cut short A-AG's run -- it was obvious, since LN was released to radio when A-AG was still gaining in audience on both Billboard/R&R and Mediabase. But I don't see what's to suspect in LN's case. Yes, downloads are very strong but this wouldn't be the first time airplay didn't track with downloads. And yes, callout is very good and LN doesn't seem to have peaked there yet, either. Though I'm pretty sure that both SS and A-AG peaked with a higher Total Positive score on R&R Callout America than LN has achieved to date.
But at the same time, it's very clear that there was a push to get LN to #1 -- Carrie did a bunch of radio interviews in support of the song, and the label bought trade ads and did an All Access e-blast in support of the song. So it's not surprising to me that LN leveled off after all that. It's not like it has been hemorrhaging spins and audience impressions this week -- its losses have been pretty slight.
I don't know, maybe radio programmers just weren't as enthused about LN as listeners were (as far as we can tell from callout and downloads). From the start of "Better as a Memory"'s chart run, it has seemed to me that programmers were more eager to embrace it than they were LN. And so BaaM is still growing after hitting #1. Maybe programmers feel that song plays better on the radio.
I mean, personally, I would have liked to have seen LN last longer at #1. But I just don't see any great injustice here. It's reasonably clear that A-AG's run was deliberately cut short, but I don't see anything comparable to suggest the same thing happened to LN. Missed opportunity to let LN sink in more and sell a few more downloads and albums? Sure. But deliberate spiking of a song's chart run? I don't see it.

I can see thinking that the label cut short A-AG's run -- it was obvious, since LN was released to radio when A-AG was still gaining in audience on both Billboard/ R&R and Mediabase. I thought they let go of A-AG early so they could push Alan's "Small Town Southern Man" to the top. At least it seemed that way to me, since it doesn't seem to be all that common for two acts on the same label to hit #1 back to back. But then I just realized that LN zipped to #1 right after Brad Paisley fell to #2, so that theory goes out the window.

Well, she's not had the success she had with the singles from "Some Hearts" and I'm now starting to wonder if "Carnival Ride" is starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel... ? It's sad going from 7x Platinum to 2x Platinum... :( 2-3x platinum in this day and age is nothing to be ashamed of. Most artists would kill for sales like that. Some Hearts was the kind of monster success that Carrie will never replicate, so expecting her to sell 7 million copies again was unreasonable. Just be glad that she didn't drop like Kelly Clarkson - 6x platinum with Breakaway to around 800k with My December.

This song did great. Sometimes one week is all songs get, but it still keeps her streak alive and everyone will remember it DID reach the top. I don't think the label had anything to do with it. I just think radio wanted to play the Kenny single alot more.

Well in all fairness if Carrie would have made a drastically different sounding album from Some Hearts her sales might have been lower too. ;)

DRTRM had 1 (technically)

DRTRM had 1 (technically) All the other length of stay at #1 figures that you listed were from Billboard. So for consistency's sake, it's only fair not to include DFtRM on your list, since it didn't hit #1 on Billboard. I know DFtRM hit #1 on the Mediabase chart (which was also the Radio & Records chart at the time). But I'm pretty sure the length of stay figures for some of Carrie's #1s have been different on Mediabase. A-AG, for example, got one week at #1 on Mediabase/Country Aircheck while getting two weeks at #1 on Billboard/ R&R. Someone else who keeps track of Carrie's singles on both the Mediabase/Country Aircheck chart and the Billboard chart can speak more credibly than I can on whether there were any other singles which spent a differing number of weeks at #1 on the Mediabase chart than they did on the Billboard chart. But I feel like there has been a difference on most of Carrie's singles.

So this would match DFTRM as Carrie's least successful #1? (even if a #1 can be in the least bit unsuccessful haha, but still)

Here are the Mediabase/old R&R figures: Jesus, Take The Wheel - 5 weeks Don't Forget To Remember Me - 1 week Before He Cheats - 4 weeks Wasted - 3 weeks So Small - 2 weeks All-American Girl - 1 week Last Name - 1 week
