so with the new rule this will probably go recurrent next week already....seems dumb to me. Well, it technically had a gain last week (from 31.421 to 33.114) because Billboard didn't account for its new panel when determining gains/losses. It should be interesting to see if they pull her next week anyway. Either way, "Love Story" will go recurrent sometime in the next 2 weeks.

If so then I don't think any country song ever has (Inside Your Heaven did for Carrie, but that was never released to country). I think the last country song to go #1 on the Hot 100 was Lonestar's "Amazed" back in 2000 (it could've happened since then though). Before that I'm not sure, you may have to go back all the way to '83 when Kenny Rogers and Dolly went to #1 with Islands In The Stream.

It's very rare for any song to be a smash at both formats, and that's been the case for well over a decade.
The seven-year interval at top 40 radio between country singles hitting the top ten ('The Way You Love Me' to 'Before He Cheats', as detailed in R&R/BB earlier this year) is a dead giveaway.
Ms. Swift does rank #1 at top 40 radio in spins among country artists this year(as of the end of August and a mere 900 or so spins ahead of Kenny Chesney, as Lon Helton pointed out in Country Aircheck back then), and ranks a very respectable 12th in total spins among all genres, an exceptional number considering how new she is to radio.
The race between Ms. Swift and Ms. Underwood for the top female country singles artist in 2009 is going to be a real donnybrook.

I think Taylor's problem with the pop chart is that there are some stations that will not put a country song into heavy rotation, no natter what, so there is a limit as to how high she can climb. I think she saw something similar with "Teardrops On My Guitar" last year. It flew up the chart (although not quite as fast as "Love Story"), and then brickwalled just inside the top 10.

Please confine updates about this song's status on other radio formats to the forums for those radio formats. Thanks.

Meanwhile this may very well become the best selling digital Country song ever before too long, only around 600,000 below the current holder and still selling strong.

From Paul Grein's Chart Watch: yea saw that coming....Z100 the #1 top 40 station in the USA had it on power play status at 1 point & it also peaked at #3 on the billboard pop airplay chart which i think tied shania for highest peak in soundscan era.

Can we please stop bumping this thread? If all this info had been posted in the "White Horse" thread, we could have avoided having two Taylor threads on the first page. "Love Story" has been done on the country chart for months now.

It would've been a bigger mention IF the song hadn't gotten remixed as a pop song, so, although it was originally a Country song, the song that topped the Top 40 airplay chart is a Pop song. Before He Cheats wasn't remixed and it climbed to #8 or #9 as a real Country song - that's a bigger accomplishment in my opinion.

Well my local pop station had "Before He Cheats" as the #1 song of the whole year, back in 2007 i think. That's just locally though. Nationally, this is a huge accomplishment for "Love Story"...taylor is about as popular as i've ever seen an artist. (just ask any 13 year old gal!)

taylor is about as popular as i've ever seen an artist nationally. (just ask any 13 year old gal!) Yes - among females she's off the charts. The question for her future is, can she get dudes on board, or perhaps more accurately, can she get them to admit they're on board? Almost everyone I know (males included) says Love Story is addictive. But face to face none of my sons' male friends wants to admit they listen to her.

OK, folks. "Love Story" is no longer a factor on the country charts and this isn't the thread to treat as a general Taylor discussion. I would rather not lock the thread but if it keeps getting bumped up for non-country chart-relevant talk, I will.

Please help me here, because I really am confused – and yes I read the rules and guidelines, and I’m still confused. If this particular thread is only to be used to discuss Love Story’s run on the country charts, and the song as you say is no longer a factor there, then what can still be discussed here? In other words, if discussions about Love Story’s potential as an international hit are off topic, what would still be on topic in this thread?

Possibly the "Love Story" thread in the Pop forum where the song is still active on the charts.
