With the CMA award nominations coming up within the next month or two, I thought it would be fun to do a prediction game in which posters would choose the five most likely nominees to win the main awards.
The rules are quite simple: try as hard as possible to choose eligible songs/artists. For each nominee you get right, you will be awarded one point. For a bonus if you get an entire category right you will be awarded an extra 2 points.
I will tabulate the scores after the nominees are announced and if there is enough participation in this round we can do a round for the actual nominees where we pick the winners.
Ya'll can post your guesses here or PM them to me :)
So, here are the categories!
Entertainer of the Year Male Vocalist of the Year Female Vocalist of the Year Horizon Award Vocal Group of the Year Vocal Duo of the Year Single of the Year Song of the Year Album of the Year Musical Event of the Year Music Video of the Year Vocal Duo of the Year
The cutoff date for the first round of actual nominations for the CMA awards was June 30th, so anything released after that is not legible to be nominated.
The cutoff date for predicting the nominations is September 9 at 12pm! Get nominating! :)

I just wanna put my two cents in....'Stay' will definately be nominated for both single and song of the year. Look for someone new to sneak their way into Entertainer of the Year (maybe, Sugarland...Carrie). Also, while there are a ton of new artists out there, I would put Darius Rucker in the Horizon Award category before I would put Julianne Hough there.
Just my thoughts!

Entertainer of the Year Brad Paisley Kenny Chesney Rascal Flatts Keith Urban George Strait
*I think this category will go something like this, the first four at least, George is a bit iffy but may be replaced with a number of people.
Male Vocalist of the Year Brad Paisley Kenny Chesney Josh Turner Keith Urban Alan Jackson
*Hard category to call, although Brad, Kenny, Keith are dead locks for it- Josh and Alan may or may not be there, they may be replaced with the likes of George Strait, Dierks Bentley, Trace Adkins, or a number of others.
Female Vocalist of the Year Carrie Underwood Miranda Lambert Taylor Swift LeAnn Rimes Reba McEntire
*The first three listed WILL be nominated. The last two you never can tell. The CMAs are always hard on LeAnn, she hasn’t been nominated since 1997 I think. Reba has a better chance of being nominated, but both could be replaced with Trisha Yearwood, Alison Krauss (CMAs did it last year), Faith Hill, or Kellie Pickler.
Horizon Award Lady Antebellum James Otto Kellie Pickler Chuck Wicks Luke Bryan
*Another difficult one to call. I know Kellie will be nominated, as well as probably James and Lady A, but it’s the last two I don’t know about. Luke has pretty good chances, as does Bucky, but also look out for Jake Owen, Julianne Hough, Ashton Shepherd, and may we expect nods for Ms. Simpson and Jewel? You never know with the CMAs.
Vocal Group of the Year Rascal Flatts Diamond Rio Lonestar Lady Antebellum Emerson Drive
*Not sure about this one either, although Rascal Flatts, Emerson Drive, and Lady Antebellum should be okay, then you just need two fillers and whalla , you got your category.
Vocal Duo of the Year Sugarland Brooks & Dunn Montgomery Gentry Big & Rich
*This one’s easy and so is the winner.
Single of the Year “I Saw God Today” George Strait “Better As A Memory” Kenny Chesney “Stay” Sugarland “All-American Girl” Carrie Underwood “Home” Blake Shelton
*Another one that could go a number of ways, although the top three should be safe bets, as should one of the Carrie songs (that or LN). Other contenders might include “Letter to Me” BP or perhaps “Gunpowder and Lead” ML or “You’re Gonna Miss This” or one of Taylor’s. Not too sure about Blake but that was a very popular song for him.
Song of the Year “Letter to Me” Brad Paisley “I Saw God Today” George Strait “Stay” Sugarland “Better As A Memory” Kenny Chesney “You’re Gonna Miss This” Trace Adkins
*Again, top four should make it. The fifth one is a little difficult, could Taylor sneak in and take it away?
Album of the Year “Just Who I Am: Poets & Pirates” Kenny Chesney “Troubadour” George Strait “Lady Antebellum” Lady Antebellum “Carnival Ride” Carrie Underwood “Good Time” Alan Jackson
*Yet another hard one to call, Kenny and George are pretty much safe bets, Lady A got high critical acclaim for their disc, which was amazing, and Carrie seems pretty predictable too.
Musical Event of the Year “Every Other Weekend” Reba w/ Skip “Life In A Northern Town” Sugarland, Little Big Town, Jake Owen “Another Try” Josh Turner/Trisha Yearwood “Shiftwork” Kenny/George “Ready, Set, Don’t Go” Billy Ray/Miley
*I’d say that’s pretty much the list there. Easily the easiest to predict, well besides Duo, haha.
Music Video of the Year “Picture to Burn” Taylor Swift “All-American Girl” Carrie Underwood “Stay” Sugarland “Home” Blake Shelton “Waitin’ On A Woman” Brad Paisley

After reading all these predictions, I feel like a horrible fan of Carrie's lol. For some reason I just dont see one of her eligible singles being nominated. I would love to be wrong though.
Also, surprised no one put "Our Song" as single of the year...usually the biggest country song is nominated here, and OS was definitely that as it spent 6 weeks at #1. Would love to be wrong though as I dont think its a great song lyrically or vocally but hey, what do i know? ;)

Why would So Small not get a nomination? Was the release timing off or something?

After reading all these predictions, I feel like a horrible fan of Carrie's lol. For some reason I just dont see one of her eligible singles being nominated. Me, neither (though I don't feel like a horrible Carrie fan). I wouldn't mind being wrong, either. Can someone help me out here? Isn't Miranda's CXG ineligible for this year's CMA Album of the Year award by virtue of having been released on 1 May 2007? The CMA eligibility period runs from 1 July 2007 to 30 June 2008, no? Brad Paisley's 5th Gear would also be ineligible on those grounds, having been released on 19 June 2007 (and it was nominated for Album of the Year at the 2007 CMAs, anyway, right?).

I thought CXG was ineligible too. I remember it being a big deal that she wasn't nominated last year. I think both the CMAs and Grammys were all men in the AOTY categories.

^thats what i was thinking because so many people had Miranda on their list.
and wouldn't "So Small" be eligible? it was released on July 30th of last year and didn't go for adds until August. so it would be eligible right? i would think that would be the most likely of hers to get a nomination.

Entertainer of the Year Keith Urban Brad Paisley Kenny Chesney Rascal Flatts Carrie Underwood
**the first 4 are guaranteed. i am hoping to see Carrie or Sugarland there for the 5th spot i bet George might take it though.
Male Vocalist of the Year Brad Paisley Kenny Chesney George Strait Alan Jackson Keith Urban
**Pretty certain about this, but Dierks, Josh T, Trace could get in as well
Female Vocalist of the Year Carrie Underwood Taylor Swift Miranda Lambert Kellie Pickler Reba McEntire
**I hope this is right, but i have a feeling Martina or Alison or someone who has done absolutely nothing this year will replace Kellie.
Horizon Award Lady Antebellum Kellie Pickler Chuck Wicks Luke Bryan Julianne Hough
**Lady Antebellum is a lock. Chuck & Luke are fairly certain to be there too. Is Kellie eligible? can't you be nominated 2 years in a row? Julianne could be replaced by Ashton or maybe Jake Owen.
Vocal Group of the Year Rascal Flatts Little Big Town Lady Antebellum Emerson Drive Eagles
**Eagles should be in there because of their album. the other 4 are pretty much guaranteed.
Vocal Duo of the Year Sugarland Brooks & Dunn Montgomery Gentry Big & Rich Van Zant
**is there only 4 for this category? if so its only the first 4 are my guesses.
Single of the Year Stay Better As A Memory I Saw God Today You're Gonna Miss This Our Song
**this one is gonna be tough. I hope i am wrong about some of these though. they usually pick songs i feel don't deserve the nomination so these are my guesses. hopefully "Stay" will be nominated in both and win both.
Song of the Year Stay So Small I Saw God Today You're Gonna Miss This Letter To Me
**same comment as above.
Album of the Year Carnival Ride Lady Antebellum Troubadour Just Who I Am: Poets & Pirates Good Time
**this has got to be the nominations. Carrie & Lady A have to be nominated and the other 3 are probably going to be nominations. i could also see Josh Turner or LeAnn Rimes possibly getting a nomination.
Musical Event of the Year Every Other Weekend Life In A Northern Town Another Try Ready, Set, Don't Go Shiftwork
**easy one.
Music Video of the Year All-American Girl Stay Our Song Letter To Me Don't Blink
**so many good videos. but these are probably the most likely to get nominated

Ok, somebody may have to tell me which of these aren't eligible. BTW, does song eligibility go by release date or peak date? (I hope that wasn't already asked) The winner I'd like to see has and *
Entertainer Of The Year: Kenny Chesney* Rascal Flatts Brad Paisley Keith Urban Tim McGraw
Male Vocalist Of The Year: Brad Paisley* Alan Jackson Trace Adkins Kenny Chesney George Strait
Female Vocalist Of The Year: Carrie Underwood Miranda Lambert* Sara Evans Allison Krauss Taylor Swift
Vocal Group Of The Year: Rascal Flatts* Little Big Town Carolina Rain Emerson Drive Lady Antebellum
Vocal Duo Of The Year: Brooks & Dunn Sugarland* Montgomery Gentry Big & Rich Halfway To Hazard
Horizon Award: Lady Antebellum Taylor Swift James Otto* Jake Owen Trent Tomlinson
Album Of The Year: Good Time - Alan Jackson* We Weren't Crazy - Josh Gracin (so it's a pipe dream, it's still a great cd) Long Road Out Of Eden - The Eagles Still Feels Good - Rascal Flatts Sunset Man - James Otto
Single Of The Year: Our Song - Taylor Swift* Don't Blink - Kenny Chesney Just Got Started Lovin' You - James Otto Small Town Southern Man - Alan Jackson Lost In This Moment - Big & Rich
Song Of The Year: Better As A Memory - Kenny Chesney Letter To Me - Brad Paisley Moments - Emerson Drive If You're Reading This - Tim McGraw You're Gonna Miss This - Trace Adkins* (obviously Stay is going to be nominated, and likely win, but it has plenty of support so I went with a few others)
Vocal Event Of The Year: Ready, Set, Don't Go - Billy Ray Cyrus with Miley Cyrus Workin' For A Livin' - Garth Brooks with Huey Lewis Another Try - Josh Turner with Trisha Yearwood Every Other Weekend - Reba McEntire with Kenny Chesney Life In A Northern Town - Sugarland with Little Big Town & Jake Owen* (can't belive I forgot about this initially.)
I don't watch enough videos to competently do a Video list.

Oh come on, everyone... we all know that Alison Krauss and Union Station will be a Vocal Group of the Year nominee. For whatever reason, they seem to get a nomination every year.
