New Artist: JASON ALDEAN and RODNEY ATKINS!?!?!? NO! Neither are new, they both have had 4 or more big hits since 2005. Their time period has expired. Glad Kellie and Lady Antebellum got nominated though! It would have been good to see Julianne Hough and Luke Bryan nominated instead of Rodney and Jason. Hoping Kellie/Lady A wins! I already wrote this on another thread but I'll say it again. Kellie's standing ovasion last year is unforgettable and she's been improving as a singer and proving she's country.. I hope she wins, I really do... Go Carrie, Brad and SugarLand!!!

As for Brooks &Dunn getting a nomination for Cowboy Town, Perhaps you don't care for the body of songs on this CD, But I do and it seems the voters liked it also.
No it didn't sell millions. But this is about the music not sales.
Besides B&D have received best album nominations for most of their albums. All but three have gotten nominations.
I know most folks seem to think they only get nominated for vocal duo. But they have 47 CMA nominations in the last 17 years

^ I love brooks and dunn--- there is no male vocalist better then Ronnie Dunn. But I just don't think this particular album deserves to win.
Rascal Flats definetly deserved an EOTY nom... that was really wrong.
I wonder when they will announce performers and presenters?

I hope she wins, I really do... Go Carrie, Brad and SugarLand!!! About that CMA performance... I just read a interview where she explained part of the reason behind her breakdown at the end. She said that she had just found out before she went onstage that her mother finally revealed herself and did a TV interview. Anyway... obviously I want Kellie to win but I'm not holding my breath. I think it'll be Rodney or Lady A.

Do yal think Lady A really has that good of a chance over Kellie? They are great and one of my favorites and I know they have lots of industry love, but for some reason I just think Kellie's personality has made her a star and she has made lots of fans at radio. Maybe she won't win, but I don't see Lady A beating her. I hope Kellie wins and Lady A gets it next year.

Like I said before, they can be nominated twice for New Artist. This is the last time Jason, Rodney and Kellie can be nominated for this award.

i hope Kellie wins...at the beginning nobody believed in her and look where she is now, nobody improved more than her in one year every way, she is really sweet, beautiful and has all the star qualities. i think her time will come, even not winning this award... i just hope she wins even not believing that is possible.

This is definitely the best chance she's had to win a major award. Mostly because it's the first time she's not up against Taylor.

Only real shock to me was Rascal Flatts not being nominated for EOTY since they have had more commercial and touring success then several of the nominees.

Rascal Flatts, while a huge commercial success, tends to draw a lot of critical ire. That and, more specifically, the fact that they routinely draw negative reviews for their awards show performances may have held them back with CMA voters this year. The CMAs gave them two performance slots last year, yes? From what I remember, Gary LeVox was ill, but both performances were panned pretty badly (and unsympathetically). Maybe there was a backlash factor at work?
As far as the New Artist category goes, I personally like James Otto's voice and music best of the five nominees, but don't think he has much of a chance after "For You" stalled. Rodney Atkins would appear to be the favorite in the category on the strength of his commercial success. Kellie Pickler has earned a fair amount of good will in the industry, but I don't think her level of current commercial or artistic success is enough to overcome possible voter reluctance to give the New Artist award to a young female for a third consecutive year. But it might help her with voters that her sophomore album is being released a week or two before the final voting period.
Lady Antebellum also enjoys a lot of industry good will and is likely to have the highest charting current single of the five nominees during the final voting period. They are a highly visible act and I think the perception that they have a big upside will help them with voters. So I think they're likeliest to play spoiler to Rodney Atkins' status as favorite, and it may help them that they're with a major label, whereas Atkins is with Curb.

From www.countryhound.com/News/Article.aspx?p=2426&AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1... “Our nominations are obviously not based on numbers per se or stats, it's really voted on by their peers and the people in this industry." - Tammy Genovese, CEO of the CMA That pretty much sums up why Rascal Flatts weren't nominated. ;)

I hope Lady A wins best new artist, though I think Rodney Atkins may get it as he had a very strong 2007. 2008, he has been a bit quieter, but he did very well commercially and on radio. I am not really a rodney fan but I am just saying, on the numbers, he may win.
I have no problem with kellie winning either, but I am not sure they will let 3 young blonde girls win 3 years in a row. They may vote for someone else to share the love to a different kind of new artist, etc.
We should be hearing about performance slots soon, right?

As much as I would LOVE for Lady A to win (I want them to win anything they are nominated for), the New Artist one is the one I kind of hope they don't win as it is usually a curse.

Here are the winners from the last 8 years: 2000 - Brad Paisley 2001 - Keith Urban 2002 - Rascal Flatts 2003 - Joe Nichols 2004 - Gretchen Wilson 2005 - Dierks Bentley 2006 - Carrie Underwood 2007 - Taylor Swift All of these artists are still going strong with the exception of Gretchen (though Joe has been absent for a couple months now, probably due to his rehab). I think Brad, Keith, Rascal Flatts, Carrie, and Taylor can all be legitimately called superstars at this point.

Here is a list of all the winners. For the most part, the winners since the mid-90s have done quite well. And the same can be said for many of the winners before that. 1981 Terri Gibbs 1982 Ricky Skaggs 1983 John Anderson 1984 The Judds 1985 Sawyer Brown 1986 Randy Travis 1987 Holly Dunn 1988 Ricky Van Shelton 1989 Clint Black 1990 Garth Brooks 1991 Travis Tritt 1992 Suzy Bogguss 1993 Mark Chesnutt 1994 John Michael Montgomery 1995 Alison Krauss 1996 Bryan White 1997 LeAnn Rimes 1998 Dixie Chicks 1999 Jo Dee Messina 2000 Brad Paisley 2001 Keith Urban 2002 Rascal Flatts 2003 Joe Nichols 2004 Gretchen Wilson 2005 Dierks Bentley 2006 Carrie Underwood 2007 Taylor Swift

i thnk there will always be "duds" on any best new artsits award, includng the cmas. thats why its best new artist - theyre awsome when theyre new, but sustainng the career is anothr diff story. but most of the winnrs have or had amazing careers, and desrved the bna award when thy got nominatd.

No one here has to agree with me (which it's certain they don't anyway--big shocker), but I still stand by my word.

If you look over the list of recent winners, I don't see how you can stand by your statement. I'd like to hear your explanation on that point.

^ for the grammys, I heard of this Best New Artist curse. There have been a lot of Duds that won best new artist at the grammys... never to be heard from again. lol
ie- Amy winehouse. Great talent, but will she ever even release a new album? Seems she is too busy in rehab to have a career.
However- many are still going strong: ie- Carrie Underwood, John Legend, Sheryl Crow, Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilara, etc.
But it seems in country music that winners of the Horizon award are mostly doing quite well. I am not familiar with some of the older winners though.

Since an opinion about the quality of a song or an album is completely subjective, there's no reason to back it up. However, your "opinion" about the new artist award being a curse is not subjective and cannot be backed up by facts (unless I'm missing something, which is why I said I'd be interested in hearing your reasoning behind that statement). I don't know why you think I'm so against you because I've defended you many times on this board. I'm just trying to understand your logic.
