I haven't been following the Jessica threads as much as I could, so this may have been mentioned, but Wikipedia is listing "Still Beautiful" as the 3rd single from the album. However reliable that is. . .

why a 3rd single already? but i am glad if SB is the 3rd because that was one of the 3 songs i liked off the album. although i think its not nearly as good as the similar "Don't You Know You're Beautiful"
but i dont see where it says SB is the 3rd single

I wouldn't trust Wikipedia. I doubt they've settled on a third single already, especially since 'Remember That' hasn't even started to take off yet.

ah, i see it now. i doubt they have already picked the 3rd single though. Normally the A&R department will pick the singles before the album even hits the shelves of stores. It's part of the marketing/development plan. In fact, I'd go so far in saying that the singles are picked before the artwork is and the tracklisting is finalized. In most cases, the labels don't stray from this picking, but sometimes consumer/radio demand will lead them to switch out singles or add more to the bunch. A good example of this was the single selections from Shania's "Up!" Shania has said that she had expected "In My Car (I'll Be The Driver)" and "Ka-Ching!" to be released in the United States. Neither were released, though videos were made for both (Ka-Ching was a major hit in Europe). Mercury, instead, changed the chronology of the releases and did not release the two songs. The label claimed that "It Only Hurts When I'm Breathing" was released "by popular demand by the fans." As far as I know, the fans were never asked. So instead of "I'm Gonna Getcha Good," "Up," "Ka-Ching!" "Forever and For Always," and "In My Car" we got IGGG, UP, FAFA, "She's Not Just A Pretty Face," and "It Only Hurts When I'm Breathing."

oh really? hmm.. you would think the label would wait to see the fans reactions on tour, iTunes sales, and polls/surveys before they picked all the singles. that seems odd to me.

They do surveys that you don't know about. It's normally to radio execs and people who have power. If they waited to pick until the tours/iTunes, it would be an absolute disaster. Think about it: how often do songs come and go on iTunes? And how do you really measure reaction from a crowd? No, I think if you were to talk to someone in the music biz, they'd tell you that they knew upon listening which songs would be singles, because they know which songs will sell the album, and that's the whole point, which is why the decision can be made early.

What do the FANS know?? ;) Thanks for pretty much confirming a hunch of mine, SGG, about preselecting singles. I've always thought that they've done that. Such as on album covers they'll put "Featuring the hit singles..." followed by songs that haven't even been announced as singles, but 80% of the time end up being singles. Also, sometimes the first tracks of an album will be the singles of that era. (Not sure if that's not just coincidence, but if what you're saying is true as I believe it is, then it's hard to imagine they would randomly put the 3-4 songs they preselected in the first 4 slots.)

Yeah, SGG is right but they do make changes and some even at the last minute, depending on a variety of factors.
I remember being fairly certain that Reba was going to release Lonely Alone but at the last minute they went with One Honest Heart.

This is the right single choice, but waiting til October and the tail-end of the month at that is just going to hinder the single's performance.
All the "buzz" she has right now will be dead by then and album sales will be sluggish. On top of that, many singles released in late October and November get lost in the holiday shuffle and don't recover in the new year. Waiting that long is NOT a good idea.

Well, October 2008 is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, so maybe it has something to do with that, although then they could release it at the beginning of the month I guess.

After listening to Jessica's version I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with how well she did on this song. I'm not sure it's as good as Rachel's version, but it's still very good. I thought she did a good job controlling her voice on the verses, and although she did oversing the chorus a bit, it really wasn't too bad by today's not so lofty standards. I also found Jessica's interpretation of the lyrics to be solid, and she seemed to have a conviction in her voice that was sorely lacking on Come On Over. I think this song could easily be a T10 smash (I give it about a 50/50 chance). The only bad thing to come out of this is that Rachel won't be able to release the song for herself, b/c I think it could've made a great comeback single (if she ever gets signed that is).

Music videos have never been Jessica's strong suit, so I don't have high expectations for the 'RT' video. As a matter of fact, I'd say that her only good videos are 'A Public Affair', 'I Wanna Love You Forever', 'I Think I'm In Love With You' and 'Where You Are'.

Jessica Simpson Remember That Columbia Now that we've all recovered from the shock & awe affect of hearing the news that Jessica Simpson had the nerve to invade our little world, maybe we can get past stories about boos and hysteria and actually get to the music. Because the reality is, she made a hell of a Country record. The fact that it's selling well already, validates what we already knew- she's good. 'Remember That,' the 2nd entry from her debut Columbia album, written by Rachel Proctor and Victoria Banks, is well crafted, soulful and compelling. And it's backed by a very strong vocal performance. Plainly, it's a hit single. So forget about the tabloid covers, the reality shows, the gossip, whatever- and listen to the girl sing. Because she can. Impacting now.

Her album is fading fast. The biggest drop on the whole chart. People don't like her. period.

Her album is fading fast. The biggest drop on the whole chart. People don't like her. period. I think it'll take more than a 2nd week of sales to determine whether this album is fading fast. A second week drop of 62%, while not great, isn't unusual. Question is whether subsequent singles will keep the album sales afloat. I still don't care for Jessica's version of this song, but think its message stands a decent chance of connecting. On a general note, if you're going to post a commentary from another site, please indicate the source. The blurb that Taylor posted is from All Access. I assume it's the same fellow that gushed about "Come On Over" being a smash. And in any case, those blurbs are all about advocacy for every single that comes through. I don't take them seriously as reviews.

Ummm helloo? Her 2nd single isn't out yet and you are quick to say the album is fading fast? What if her subsequent singles are much more popular than "Come On Over" (they deserve to be) and rises the album sales? You can't tell now...Jeez!

When I first listened to Jessica's version, I wasn't crazy about it. I like the song and am used to hearing Rachel singing it, but a couple things about Jessica's version just didn't sit as well with me. After that initial listen though, I kept finding myself going back to the song and have now listened several times. I don't know what changed but I now really like her version and think she sings it with a lot of emotion. I feel like she connects well with the song and that comes across. I think her voice on this might be a little deeper than Rachel's and for some reason that makes it sound better to me. (That probably makes no sense, lol) The song gets caught in my head and really strikes me as a song that could do well for her.
