Am I hearing it right that Chris Cornell wrote this single?
Cook's album in RollingStonne:
David Cook Title TBD 11/18
As he rushes to complete his first post-Idol album, America's favorite faux-grunge rocker knows what's coming: the dreaded Daughtry comparison. "Um, I look at it this way," Cook says. "I've been called way worse." To make what he describes as a set of "substance-based rock," Cook recruited American Idiot producer Rob Cavallo and added an unreleased Chris Cornell song to the set. "I don't know what the expectations are," he says, "but I want to put out a Joshua Tree or White Album." He chuckles: "Hope for the best, expect the worst."
I think Cook is aiming too low.

I think it was written FOR Chris Cornell by the same guy who wrote Over It with Daughtry. I'm surprised they didn't use one of the songs he wrote for the first single.

haha, that's funny, but I don't think he meant it that way. I think he probably meant worse than a copier of Daughtry. Or he might have meant it as a joke.

That guy wrote Over It? Well I understand it then. That's the catchiest song on their album.

I'm excited to hear it! I've always liked Cook too and yeah, the title is a little weird, but I hope it's a good song! I'm curious to hear what it sounds like, because I really don't know what kind of vibe he's going for at all.

David Jonas Archuleta Cyrus is better than this s**t. And you know this how? No one has even heard it yet, lol. David Cook shouldn't really even be compared with Archuleta anymore. They are pretty much two different genres. Archuleta is pop with a little r&b/soul. Cook is primarily rock.

I get the feeling Cook is going to be much less pop friendly than Daughtry. I could see him going for rock as his primary format. Will be interesting to hear this.

Not sure what Cook's new stuff is like but his old stuff wasn't particularly mainstream top 40 friendly. So if RCA wants to push him in CHR/Pop as well as rock, they may go with a song penned by somebody who has had success crossing into mainstream. That said, do we know Light On isn't one of Cook's?

Not sure what Cook's new stuff is like but his old stuff wasn't particularly mainstream top 40 friendly. Really? Have you heard his old songs? Analog Heart? IMO it's very top40-friendly, actually, a bit too much, this is what AMG wrote about it: designed as much to be his entry into the big leagues as to actually be played on Top 40 -- but with a little gloss the stuff on Analog Heart could sit alongside DAUGHTRY quite comfortably. And that's almost certainly why it was pulled -- there will be a time for David Cook to sit alongside DAUGHTRY and it's not the spring of 2008. It's the holiday season of 2008. I don't think RCA needs to push him to get radio success at all. However, his style has already changed. No one really knows what it's like, guess just have to wait.

yeah, I've heard Analog Heart and I didn't really consider it mainstream enough. Most of it anyway. But obviously opinions will differ.

The title does keep reminding me of the motel 6 commercials, "we'll leave the light on."
