I hope it's uptempo because honestly I'm not feeling those lyrics as a ballad. Yick!

hey radio liked him when he sang the line magic rainbow. Even though toml is an excellent song it is undoubtfully corny. Light on sounds special at least lyricly speaking. I think he would archie on radio if he had a few harder songs release them to rock, all of his songs will get on adult, and he should be played on pop. So don't write David off so soon and i know RCA has something planned for David.

David Cook's first single, “Light On,” produced by Grammy winning producer Rob Cavallo (Green Day, Kid Rock) is released radio this week and will be made available on iTunes on 9/30.
"Light On" will premiere exclusively on AOL Music on Wednesday, September 24, on AOL's pop culture news site, PopEater.com. Earlier this year, Cook had the biggest single premiere of the year on PopEater.com with "The Time of My Life" garnering more than one million streams in 24 hours.
Definitely excited to hear this!

Wait, I don't get it. Did Cook co-write the song or not?! The way I read it, it was Chris Cornell and Brian Howes who just wrote the song. Or do they mean, in addition to David. ???

Cook didn't write the song. It's a Cornell/Howes song, which is probably smart on RCA's part. Cook is untested as a mainstream songwriter.

If they were going to premiere it today, why not just put it on itunes? Why premiere it in a place where it will be easily rip-able, and thus lose potentially thousands of downloads from spastic AI fans?

If they were going to premiere it today, why not just put it on itunes? Why premiere it in a place where it will be easily rip-able, and thus lose potentially thousands of downloads from spastic AI fans? In general, "spastic AI fans" are extremely loyal and supportive. They voted with their dialing and texting fingers, and now they'll vote with their wallets. They'll buy the single. The people that won't buy the single, but will rip it from the stream, are the people who weren't uber-Cook fans from his AI days. I don't think a week is going to make too much of a difference. As an example, there were ripped copies of Crush everywhere on the internet a few weeks before it went to iTunes, but it didn't seem to hurt sales any.

Can't wait to hear this tomorrow. Which first official single will be better: Cooks or Archies hmmm I think that's a very tough comparison to make. They will be in two completely different genres (unless Cook does something wacky). How people like both songs will depend a lot on what type of music they prefer (pop or rock; R&B vocalizing or straight, rougher vocals; catchy hooks or guitar-driven rock). I'm sure people will compare them; I just think it'll be a little pointless to do so. David A. and David C. are about as different as two artists can be. Cook has even emphasized, more than once, that it's like comparing apples and oranges. I think they're both tired of competing against one another.

Oh come on, it's not that strange of a comparison. You know practically everybody is going to be comparing this to Crush the second it comes out, not just idol fans but critics, the media, etc.

But just because everybody will be doing it doesn't mean it's not a silly comparison that will have no real musical validity. If they weren't on American Idol together there would be no reason why anybody would think of comparing Crush and Light On.

Let's be done of the comparison already and Cook is the winner. Then some people are free to be happy and some are free to, you know, be bitter.

Archie is with Jive and Cook is with RCA. Both of their songs were written and produced by different people.
