Here's the demo of "Disturbia." The original file said it was recorded by Chris Brown, but it sounds nothing like him. I don't like it that much... The tempo is a lot slower than the one we're accustomed to. www.zshare.net/audio/20389299808c6ffd/

The tempo and the pitch are lowered, probably since the demo is sung by a male and it fits more comfortable in his range.

Rihanna started with Caribbean influences and moved to dance-pop and then to techno-pop, all styles that weren't in the mainstream of US pop music at the time she started cranking out her hits, which is why they ended up being hits, because they were fresh. Britney had a degree of uniqueness to her when she first came out, although she was basically following the musical movement started by other pop acts of the period like N'Sync and the Spice Girls. Since then she had one big innovative hit (Toxic) and moved into the generic hip-hop realm and specifically with Blackout she followed the trends set by the Pussycat Dolls, Nelly Furtado, and yes Rihanna. I wouldn't really give Rihanna, Britney, or Madonna any credit for their 'innovation'. It's not like any of them are making this music. The fact that Rihanna is tooting her horn over writing three whole songs for her fourth LP says it all.

But the fact remains that most people do not know who wrote the hits they hear on the radio nor do they really care. Case in point. Madonna gets a ton of credit for all of her hits. The majority of people listening to the radio have no clue who wrote the majority of her big hits. All they know is that Madonna sings them. Mariah Carey is generally regarded equally as responsible for her hits as Whitney Houston despite the fact that Mariah writes and co-produces all of her material, and Whitney just goes into the studio and sings. I know these three artists aren't exactly the top of the pops today at radio, but I wanted to use artists who have lengthy careers of hit-making.

That's definitely not Rihanna singing, but if it is a demo for her I think I like it.

I think that Madonna is somewhat unique in that at her prime, when she was pumping out those hits early on, a lot fo people saw her flashpan pop star who used sex to cover up her lack of talent and assumed she wouldn't last long in the business. She got the massive respect she enjoys now around Evita/RoL. The same thing could happen for Rihanna, but at the moment I don't think her success will prove durable because she hasn't shown she's a great vocalist, dancer, or has notable stage presence.

Those lives were decent, no denying she has a good enough voice to have that record contract. But it's not good enough to distinguish her from her all these other chick. RiRi is HUGE now, she's owning the competition left and right, but I can't really name anything about her besides these hot songs that make her special, and that's why I don't think she'll last long.

^Sorry to tell you, but things do always work like that. Anything could happen. No one's ever safe in the music industry. Look at Mariah & Usher. It all depends. Look at Nelly & Ashanti. You never know.

GGGB was re-released this year. That still counts. Especially since TAKE A BOW and DISTURBIA were brand new songs just like a brand new CD. Nothing wrong with it, but let's not LIE to ourselves.

cough*three new songs*cough But I do have to agree, for the reason that it's charting as the same album. However, she has put out new material each year.
