I think this follows behind "Tim McGraw" as my 2nd favorite song by Taylor. In all honesty, I don't think she has much range at all, but when she does songs that aren't to big for her voice like "Tim McGraw", "Teardrops On My guitar" and "White Horse", they sound awesome!

From All Access:
It's always nice to watch a songwriter grow and mature, and that has never been more true than in this case. Taylor came to us as a young girl, mature for her age, but still a kid. She is now a young woman with more life experiences under her belt and a broader view of the world. As much as those first heartaches hurt, they do make for great Country songs. "White Horse" is not written by a child who was dumped by the most popular boy in school, but a woman who has had her heartbroken too many times by a man promising the fairy tale, which she has come to realize doesn't exist. As Taylor continues her journeys through life and love, we look forward to more great music. Impacting 12/8.
This also debuted at #42 this week, but moved up to #39 today!

A #37 debut on Billboard this week. That seems only so-so for a Taylor debut, but I guess there were a lot of her Christmas songs being played since Friday. Her Last Christmas showed back up on Mediabase, and I would think her Santa Baby, White Christmas, and so on were distracting her from a huge debut.

It should start moving up more then, although her Christmas songs could hurt it until the new year.

That's a very impressive debut considering that 'Love Story' is in power rotation (40+ spins per week) at over 50 of the 122 stations on the Country Aircheck/Mediabase panel.

It's a great song and I hear no Maroon 5 in it. Not only do critics like but almost 600,000 last week and probably over 300, 000 this week. I think if it was as transparent as yall are making it out to be the critics would be all over it. so we're not supposed to voice our opinions now just bec the album sold 900k in 2 weeks?! ??? Didn't say you couldn't have an opinion, but don't expect people not to repsond in defense. lol, funny how people think only their opinions count. Doesn't really matter, it seems this board focuses more on being negative towards almost every artist and song anyways.

Didn't say you couldn't have an opinion, but don't expect people not to repsond in defense. lol, funny how people think only their opinions count. what said nothing of the sort. Her point was that the quantity of sales doesn't make criticisms of albums or songs less valid, which is what you were suggesting with your previous post. Generally speaking, the "this artist has sold x amount of albums so you must be wrong for criticizing him/her" argument is the super-fan's argument -- it doesn't address the substance of the criticism, it comes off as unduly defensive and dismissive, and it contributes nothing meaningful to discussion. Doesn't really matter, it seems this board focuses more on being negative towards almost every artist and song anyways. Not true and also not an appropriate comment to make on the board. If you have concerns about the tone of the board, you should take those up in PM to the forum mod (that would be me) or to another member of the Pulse staff. But in any case, this isn't a fan board, it's a board for music discussion. The staff doesn't have much patience for super-fan behavior. If critical commentary doesn't sit well with you, I imagine there are many fan boards that you might find more comfortable.

She sells a lot of records which is great, but I was kind of happy that she was left out of the Grammy category. When you look at the caliber of the vocal performances in the Female Country Artist category, there is no comparison.

What songs did they submit for Grammy's this year? "SSN," "PTB" and "LS"? Not surprising none of them got nominated, and "Fearless" wasn't eligible for this years awards. I think she'll pick up a few next year.

I really thought "Love Story" (I thought maybe that was released too late, but I dunno about the Grammys too well) or "Should've Said No" would've been nominated, or "Our Song."

ARTIST: TAYLOR SWIFT
SINGLE: WHITE HORSE
NEW YORK (Billboard) – The second single from Taylor Swift's top-selling CD is a beautiful, understated ballad that showcases her skill with a lyric and shines a spotlight on her signature tender, heart-on-her-sleeve vocals. Musically and materially, this is the antithesis of her previous single "Love Story," with its upbeat melody and happily-ever-after ending. On this poignant ballad, Swift looks at what happens when the fairytale falls apart, singing, "I'm not a princess, this ain't a fairytale/I'm not the one you'll sweep off her feet/Lead her up the stairwell." Sparse production places the focus on Swift's vocal and she makes the pain and disillusionment palpable. Her previous hits have explored the joys and disappointments of love from a decidedly youthful perspective, but this angst-ridden effort is something everyone can relate to. Heartbreak has rarely sounded as compelling.

The first time I heard all of the songs from Taylor's new Album, I said to myself, "What?? This is nowhere as good as her other album...". But then I actually listened to the songs. I guess I was just soo used to hearing all of her other songs that I wasn't ready to give the new stuff a chance. It only took about 3 times listening to the album to realize that "White Horse" is the best song on the CD. "Love Story" was a nice, sweet, upbeat song and I loved the video, but "White Horse" is much more introspective, thoughtful, and shows a real maturity, I think. As I have said many times before, I am no music expert, I just know what I like, but to me this song is about as good as it can get. I still can't believe Taylor writes all of these songs herself. She constantly amazes me. This is coming from a die hard Carrie Underwood fan. While Taylor's voice is not always the strongest, she sings well enough, and she sings in her own way, and the songs really just come alive when she sings them. I couldn't imagine Carrie singing any of the songs on this CD, just as I couldn't imagine Taylor singing any of Carrie's songs. I just love the CD, especially "White Horse", and foresee at least 3 other singles, possibly even another couple top 5 or even #1 songs.
One question I have for the music experts, though....coming from someone who is not a music expert...is it my imagination, or are these new songs from Taylor more suited for my local pop station than they are for my local country station? I swear that I've heard "Love Story" MUCH more on Sirius Hits 1 than I have on the country channel. Just curious. I wouldn't mind an explanation from someone who is a country music expert. Thanks!!! Hope everyone is having a great day!!!!!!

It's like clockwork everytime I get in my car...I hear it between 6-6:30AM, on my lunch hour, and on my way home in the afternoon. EVERY day. And as I said before, I've already heard "White Horse" as well. Followed by Britney's "Womanizer." That was funny.

I assume Fearless will be the 3rd single. All three songs are great. But I wouldn't have picked 2 consecutive ballads.

I assume Fearless will be the 3rd single. All three songs are great. But I wouldn't have picked 2 consecutive ballads. I wouldn't call LS a ballad, it's mid-tempo. It seems that they're following the same strategy of the first album (as I've said before). Next would be the upbeat love song, so yes, Fearless would make sense (as would YBWM, which would also be an excellent choice).

^^^ you think Tim McGraw was midtempo? I dont. I think LS is slightly midtempo though. And yeah, most her album is awesome but I hope they dont go too heavy with ballad singles.

TM isn't a ballad, though. IMO anyways. But what I meant more was that the first single was a mid-tempo to slow song about love, the second a heartbreak ballad, and the third an upbeat love song.

I don't want "Fearless" to be 3rd, I really like it, but there are WAY better songs off the album.

I think 'Tim McGraw' is the very definition of a ballad.
