If your kid is perceptive enough to pick up on the subliminal words being spelled out in this song, then he/she is A) likely old enough to hear it, or B) should be in a gifted program and not listening to pop trash on the radio I don't have a 'kid' ahahah, I was being hypothetical. But if you don't actually see the title before hearing the song, it's hard to guess it's If You Seek Amy. I honestly don't think most listeners will even get this unless it's spelled out to them.

I have to be honest - someone had to point it out to me back in November. Then again, I don't pick up on anything aurally.

yeah... I think we all had it pointed out to us really (or a majority) My friend's favorite song on the CD is this and I had to point it out to her myself. (after she listened to it so many times)

Yeah, I wonder how many average listeners will be able to figure it out.

I think its funny about all the censorship talk. It's almost enough to forget that she isnt actually saying anything bad. LOL.

I honestly don't think most listeners will even get this unless it's spelled out to them. It IS spelled out to them! For anyone who doesn't already know the title of the song, it would make much more sense to hear "F U C K ME" than "if you seek Amy" which doesn't even make any sense.

No. I mean someone actually saying hey she is saying f**k. Because I didn't get it until various posters on here said what it really meant. I remember when the tracklisting was released and many thought it was an introspective ballad about her illness. Not a bold sexual declaration. Even when we heard the song people still had to be told what it said. Like I said before average chart listeners won't get this unless they look for it or it is told to them.

The average radio listener is not going to have seen the tracklisting, so I stand by what I said.

I do as well. The average CHR listener will not think she is saying f**k. At the very least not on first listen. This is something that isn't apparent unless you are looking for it.

Swayman I'm with you, I didn't get it either..until it was spelled out. I usually pick that stuff up pretty quickly but I completely missed the hidden meaning.

I don't really like this song...F you C K me. Ha Ha It's not inserted into a clever line that can work both ways...it only makes sense when you look at it from the double entendre perspective. Its not all that well arranged... I think that a ballad "Out From Under" or "Unusual You" - or something really good like "Radar" should have been released... This is too annoying. I don't think it''s strong. It'll be a hit, I'm sure...but I think it ruins the chances of both "Out From Under" and "Unusual You" being released..."Radar."

IIRC noone on this forum firgured it out by themselves before the album was released. Someone on another forum pointed it out and then it was reposted here.

(after she listened to it so many times) My sister loves this song, its one of her favorites from the album and she never got it. I had to explain it to her. The only reason I knew was because the track listing was revealed and everybody was already guessing that's what it was about.

I think people are taking this song too seriously. Who cares if it's not cleverly arranged or if it doesn't make sense? It's not really that serious lol.

Well Britney's a singer and this is her single, so she and the label should probably care.

I do think it's clever, but it's just a pop song it's not going to change any ones lives.

They put it on the album to make it up to Bloodshy and Avant for not releasing it as a single during the Blackout era.

LMFAO at anyone who says it's not obvious. I mean c'mon, seriously, this is not a hidden message or innuendo here, it's a flat out spelling of the word fuck with me at the end. I have a hard time believing anyone who's actually listened to the words didn't figure it out instantly. I hate to insult anyone's intelligence, but how can you not pick up on it on a first listen? ??? It's utterly ridiculous for anyone to suggest this will go over most listeners' heads.

As Haley said, many of us were explained of the meaning in the Womanizer thread when the tracklist of Circus was revealed. Before that, we all thought it was a ballad with a strange ridiculous title... and it turned out to be a (yes) clever title. I think this is the best track of Circus by far. The production, the structure, the Baby-baby reminiscent of Brit's 1st single, the chorus, the childish intro, everything :)
And if you listen to the lyrics of the verses, it actually talks about this girl Amy that people are seeking, so the title makes perfect sense that way.
I remember I pointed out in the Wmzr thread that the censorship would easily be resolved by getting rid off the "If You" in the chorus, since the phrase "begging to seek Amy" made sense. But it would really not be necessary. Did anyone censor "Superman that whore" for example?? NO! and kids were dancing to that.
