Nextalbumplease. They need to go more alternative, he's not convincing as the next Chad Kroeger That most likely wont help his singles do any better, if anything they will most likely do worse.

They just need to make his songs pop-friendly and not HAC-friendly. His songs were geared towards pop, but simply weren't good/catchy enough to take off on the format so they got stuck at HAC, and HAC can't be your only format because it's a relatively small one. There is no way rock is going to accept him so they need to try harder to market him towards pop.
Rock singles can do well on pop, but his songs are no It's Not Overs, Second Chances or Use Somebodys. They're bland, generic HAC pop-rock and CHR isn't going to run to play that.

I don't think it can get any worse on CHR for him. I always felt his voice fits the altrnative sound better. He has great range but his voice isn't as thick as Chad's/Daughtry's. He sounldn't be shouting his lungs out like he does on Light On.

I agree that the format that fits him the most is truly Alternative, but I'm not sure how much Alternative would welcome him considering he won American Idol and his first single had the words "magic rainbow" in it.

I don't believe that his idol crown would stop great music from charting where it should, nor would the phrase "magic rainbow".
I'm not saying he should aim for songs that aren't catchy, I'm just saying that voice wise he's more Lifehouse than Nickelback. He needs to tone it down. And write better songs, obviously.

I just think it would be risky. I don't see Alternative jumping to play him unless he had a really, really, really good song. *Maybe* then it would. There is definitely an Idol stigma with the audience that Alternative targets and it wouldn't be easy to break it, especially when his lead single (and so far most successful single) was a sappy ballad called Time of My Life.

More detailed update report:
AC: 433 HOT AC : 3518 (+23) POP: 544 (+6) RHY: 2 VH1: 8 FUSE: 1 TOTAL SPINS: 4506 AUDIENCE: 19.513
POP update, Quick Cut:
544 Spins (+6) -24 Bullet (+11)
Even if it never catches on at POP, it's resilience for a dead flop has been remarkable, and overall it'll still be a decent airplay hit for him given his track record.

No he doesn't fit into alternative, even without the idol crown. He's into a brand I call "mom rock" and that's what bands like Daughtry, Nickelack, Lifehouse and Bon Jovi (love them) make. Like the videos they play on the VH1 top 20 countdown are mostly composed of mom rock. I think that brand thrives on HAC- like "lite" rock.

His raspy post-grunge voice would sit nicely along side bands such as The Veer Union, Cavo & Daughtry on Active. Thats if he was fronting a band of course. I've already vented my frustrations at him not joining a band, so won't go into that ha. I still believe it was a mistake. I wonder if Velvet Revolver are still searching

Wow! This is the most activity I've seen in here in weeks! Cool. My thoughts:
I don't think its a matter of where is voice fits, its a matter of what kind of songs he writes. I think he could break through on a rock format next time with the right song, but it ain't gonna be easy. We just have to wait to see what kind of material he comes up with.
Building on that... he does have a band, mostly made up of the guys he was playing with before idol. One of them was heavily involved in the recording of this album. They just never named themselves. Supposedly they have picked one. Next time I bet he's David Cook and the_______.
famed: The Joey mystery deepens. The latest idea is that IS him in Selena Gomez's band, but it was also announced that he was going back to his old band - they are planning to release an album this fall. And he's listed as a member of MWK (Cooks pre-idol band that's planning to release a side project album next year). So now no one knows what to believe. LOL.

I can't knock the hustle. tbh I didn't mind that he left the band, he was always the odd-man-out for me, for really no reason. I can't even explain it but he always stuck out from the other guys somehow. ah well, no matter. :)

While we lost a station yesterday, at least one Hot AC station must've been moved to the POP panel, because the afternoon update saw this go up from 484 spins to 513 on POP, and in today's fresh update, it got another +13 to bring it back up to 526 with a -44 bullet (down from 570 in the adjusted totals). EDIT: Heh. Quick Cut doesn't match up with the expanded panel report from AllAccess: 51 50 DAVID COOK Come Back To Me 526 545 -19 1.086 The bolded number correlates with the LW Quick Cut spincount I have in my written record. Audience has definitely increased though; aud. increases from AC/HAC aren't enough to account for total AI increase. Total AI: 20.760 (+0.281)

Songs only go recurrent if they spend 20 weeks in the top 40 and only get purged if they've made the top 40 then fall out early. This has done neither so it's just gonna hover.

ALL FORMATS:
AC: 699 (+43) HOT AC : 3430 (-18) POP: 540 (+12) RHY: 1 (=) VH1: 5 (=) FUSE: 1 (=) TOTAL SPINS: 4676 (+37) AUDIENCE: 21.027 (+0.279)
Quick Cut shows last week's POP spinnage at 545 (which would mean this has a -5 bullet) but if AllAccess has last week's POP spins at 521 (like I have in my records) then this has a +19 bullet. Either way, it's had +21 spins over the past two updates.

Desperate resurrection time! This has been steadily dropping for the past month but over the past two days it's had yet another 'wind' and has had a +12 over the last two days: YESTERDAY: +4 TODAY: +8 Also saw an increase in overall audience. AC: 646 (=) HOT AC : 2215 (-40) POP: 326 (+8) TOTAL SPINS: 3187 (-32) AUDIENCE: 16.302 (+0.049)
