Strange. This has been his "single" since March. I wonder why RCA never sent out a 3rd single?
If anyone cares, here's David's Grammy submissions. RCA submitted him in every category for both LO and CBTM:

Well CBTM is well and truly over at HAC and if it suddenly turns around on POP to the point of going anywhere it would be a major surprise so I reckon if they're gonna go with a 3rd single right about now would be time to set the wheels in motion. CBTM is still going at AC but if there is a 3rd single AC will get to it in their own time just like they did with CBTM.

I doubt he'll get a 3rd single. It would've been announced a long time ago.

No, there isn't going to be another single and I highly doubt if much effort is put into those Grammy submissions. RCA is so dismissive of Cook; he appears to be their new Aiken - only this guy is talented and could be current. They release shoddy material, while burying the good stuff and use and abuse the current fanbase without ever trying to expand it. It's a shame, because the dude deserves better than that.

Unfortunately, it looks like his career is over, which is sad cause he's easily the best male winner the show has had.

How is his career over? Because he had one flop single on CHR? Come on. I don't even like him that much myself, but saying his career is over is a bit premature. He could easily find himself a niche in the HAC market and continue with that. He clearly still has a solid fanbase so I don't see why his career is over. Just because he's not scoring CHR hits doesn't mean his career is over....I think this board's definition of success is ridiculously narrow.
I do agree though that RCA kind of screwed him over by giving him a bunch of generic HAC fluff.

I highly doubt he will get a third single at this point, although I think that they should give Heroes a shot. I could see it being a sizeable hit.

What Idol do you know that has failed to have a real hit from their debut album, but gone onto have a good career? The answer is none. Success for debut albums is critical for an Idol contestant to have a shot at a good career. So unless he breaks the mold, chances are he's pretty much done. And I love him, but that's the way it is for the Idol artists.

Well, we'll see how his next album goes. He could very well flop big with the next project and be over and done with, but there's a chance he could still see some decent success too, I think.
His dilemma is that the only audience that is accepting of him right now is the HAC audience and that's not all that big of an audience. Pop isn't very interested in him and Rock barely knows he exists. He needs to choose a direction and stick with it. They tried to push him to CHR this era and make him the next Daughtry, but the material wasn't good enough so he wound up being limited to HAC with some AC airplay.

We'll see what happens. I don't think this guy will ever be the superstar people thought he would be coming off of Idol, but who knows, maybe he'll have a good sophomore album. The fact that his album has continued to sell steadily without any hit singles is a good sign.

^That is true. However, I can't see him having the same kind of sales success on a sophomore album if there's no big hits like there weren't this era.

I think Cook's album sold so well initially because TOML was such a massive hit. It was #1 for like, 4 months and was an Olympic anthem. That helped tremendously. Light On and CBTM were DOA on CHR though, and I think that killed his momentum. He needed that big CHR hit to keep the momentum going and he never had it.

I'm sure a lot of it was Idol winner hype too. He had a lot of hype coming off of Idol.
I do agree that his 2nd album won't sell without hit singles like this one did.

The sales for his second album aren't going to be anywhere near what he sold with this one. A ton of the sales are from the Idol hype and TOML. But I don't think his career is finished. The album continued to sell well over time even though TOML was the only hit.

His career isn't over. He's got a fanbase to work off, a radio format to expand from, etc etc. He's pretty much where Fantasia was. She screwed it up by not continuing to cater to her base while attempting to expand her reach. We'll see what strategy DC takes from here.

so one album singles not doing great and u guys say he might have no more positive career because the fanbase gone and would not sell as much as last time.as long as he have a long term contract, there would always be chance for him to have a big hit.u guys are like thinking having big hits a piece of cake.

Well I've gotta hand it to CBTM, this song has had ridiculous amounts of longevity on the charts, even if it wasn't a big hit. I mean, this thing went for adds in MARCH. It's OCTOBER and it's still doing well.

Unfortunately, it looks like his career is over, which is sad cause he's easily the best male winner the show has had. Thats an absolutely absurd thing to say. I'm guessing you were the type of person that was saying Daughtry's career was over after he got voted off Idol in 4th place. Cook could rebound with a huge hit off the his second effort. You can't tell. But to say his career is over is ridiculous. Even if he had got dropped by RCA I still wouldn't understand that statement. It's actually a very depressing and dismissive comment ha.

I agree that it's too early to say his career is over, but his sophomore effort is going to need a CHR hit...badly. He can do it, he just needs to release something good.

He needs a hit, but he could do fine with maintaining HAC and adding a rock hit too, if he could crack one of those formats. It does not all rest on pop. But yes, the second album for idols needs to be very very good, because all the excuses are gone. They have more time to work on it and, presumably, a bit more freedom. u guys are like thinking having big hits a piece of cake. LOL. I know. Also apparently HAC is the booby prize for not being good enough for pop, RCA hates him, his album was subpar, and his career is doomed. Oh well, at least its good to get different opinions. Its all good.

They should at the very least *try* another single from the album. I'd like if they release 'Declaration' or 'Avalanche'. I personally wouldn't go with 'Heroes' because I can't even remember what it sounds like off the top of my head. I'd prefer the other two as singles; 'Declaration' because it's a bit more rock and it's up-tempo, and 'Avalanche' because it has a chance IMO of going along with the trend of Hot AC-type crossovers on CHR (I'm Yours, Come On Get Higher, etc.) Or if the label really doesn't care they could just toss 'Permanent' out there.

YES I would love that one for a single as well but sadly it was relegated to bonus track status. Shame really, that one probably has the most potential on POP.

I always thought Declaration or A Daily Anthem would have done really well on the radio.

To say his career is finished is ridiculous. He's getting a 2nd album and seems to have a good sized loyal fanbase. Maybe he won't be a superstar but his career is certainly not finished.

Main chart update; we got a few numbers and this is pretty funny:
67 66 DAVID COOK Come Back To Me 227 201 26 0.685
If that's today's, it's really funny as Quick Cut showed a -8 today with a bullet of only +17.
