Why do you say that? It's not like Fair To Midland is looking for a debut that's remotely competitive with Incubus. If anything they'll benefit from Incubus fans going to make a purchase realizing that Fair To Midland's new album just came out as well, and those that know Fair To Midland might take a listen and end up buying that too. How is it dumb?

How is it dumb? Because in their earlier spot they were up against Crossfade, and honestly people always say things like "oh, well the people buying one album will just buy another!" and I don't buy it for shit. People barely buy one album now! I'd much rather Fair To Midland be up against practically nothing and have a chance to shine versus being up against a big release and be overlooked. This band deserves success, dammit.

That may be true. But ultimately, the fact that this song hasn't gotten an add let alone an adds date yet means that they're behind on the promotion for this record if it were to be released in June. I think they're going to need that extra month to HOPEFULLY give the song and the album the proper push it deserves. And I think that promotion and push that the label had better be giving them will have much more of an impact on the band's success than what band they're up against that week.

Pit it against Incubus? What a dumb f**king move. with Incubus' album leaking very early, it's possible that they're gonna push the album up by....2 weeks.

the piano in the beginning reminds me of Red's "Pieces" from their debut album "End of Silence", really nice song, another decent band to have in mind from now on

It got its first 4 adds out of the gate this week, which isn't bad considering how recently they announced it was going for adds, but they're gonna need a few more supporters in the next few weeks to appear in the top 50 I would think.

Any idea which stations are leading the way? They are all heros!
Song of the year material, and most likely, album of the year as well.

I most vehemently agree with you. The stations leading the way are the usuals for good music on active rock: Sirius Octane and WJJO Madison, WI. They're easily the two best monitored stations on the format so this doesn't surprise me. Recently WZBH Salisbury, MD has been stepping it up too, and not surprisingly, they just added this as well. WWBN Flint, MI; KHTQ Spokane, WA; WGRD Grand Rapids, MI; and WIIL Chicago, IL are also on board I believe. KEYJ Abilene, TX; and Music Choice - Rock also have been playing it, possibly among a couple of others, but these stations aren't officially monitored by mediabase. They're considered "activator" or "indicator" stations. Alternative has a few stations playing it as well.

I hope you're right. Even though "Dance Of The Manatee" reached the mid teens, which should have me hoping for a higher prediction, that was when they were signed to Serjikal Strike which was an offshoot of Universal. E1 Entertainment (formerly Koch Records) has not had a great history at radio. "Parade Of The Dead" by Black Label Society would be their best showing at active rock I would think (I may be missing some songs) and compared to other BLS singles, that didn't do amazingly well. I don't know what to predict because I think this song's success will be more of a factor of the label than the song itself. The song just getting top 50 after label-mates TrustCompany failed is an auspicious start at least.

Yeah, I guess what I mean is, they already seem to be taking this more seriously than TrustCompany. I just don't know if they will put in the same radio push that Universal did. That's what I want to know. As I'm saying, the success of singles from this label is so heavily dependent on how hard they try. So...I was being very fair to TC, using it to make my point. :)

I'm downloading it now. I heard it live, but I forgot which one it was. I just remember seeing it on their setlist. I'm excited to check it out after my slow download takes place.

Yeah, "Heart In My Hands" deserved better. And the free download from FTM is awesome. When I saw them play it live, it didn't have all the vocal layers and banjo/dulcimer parts so while it certainly had energy, this studio version brings the epicness! The presence of bluegrass elements as well as Darroh's vocal timbre in the chorus remind me a bit of the band Hurt. The album version of "Amarillo" almost sounds like a combination "Ten Ton Brick" and "Alone With The Sea" rolled into a Fair To Midland framework. Hehe maybe. :) Is it not making you happy? There's plenty of cheer to go around, Shadowscorp! I was never really into Fair to Midland. It's all good, man, I respect your opinion. For me, apart from liking them, I also think the principle of them doing well is important. I think it's essential for my faith in rock music that a band can emerge with a unique and progressive sound and have success, as was possible in every era of rock & roll before now. It's also important that the music world not equate hard rock with dumb rock. As alternative moves away from heavier music in favor of indie, it's good that hard rock can fight back with a fresh and intellectual brand of music of its own. While many might feel that's not what heavy music is about, I believe strongly in the combination of heaviness, melody, and complexity, and while that aesthetic shouldn't necessarily take over hard rock, I feel like there should be a current band present who exudes those qualities having success. Metallica is getting old, System Of A Down is on hiatus for all intents and purposes, Tool/A Perfect Circle take forever between albums, Sevendust isn't big enough, Karnivool isn't big enough, Hurt hasn't done anything in awhile and isn't big enough, and A7X can't lead the charge forever.

I fully agree with the above post. It's hard to listen to active rock radio now because so much of it is so vapid. FTM, Chevelle, Sevendust, 10 Years and a few others are the torches that keep top-notch hard rock alive.
Amarillo Sleeps is amazing too. I can not wait for this album.

The song fell off the next day. It only sneaked on the chart for Thursday I believe. Hopefully it'll return if it can get a few more adds.
