This song went up against Creed - "Rain" on Minneapolis' active rock station 93 X's cagemactch last night, and kicked the s**t out of it. How could this happen? Maybe because the song is freaking awesome!!! (I sounded like AI when i said "freaking awesome" didn't I.) www.youtube.com/watch?v=06WW196yu5c Click the HQ button, cuz the song sounds damn awesome. And now I need to change my pants. I'm about to listen to the new 30 Seconds to Mars. People seem to be digging it, but the new FTM is a damn tough act to follow. And Pen, I don't know who you'd be pulling for, but tonight Fair To Midland goes up against Day Of Fire - "Lately" in the cagematch. I at least feel like I remember you liking them. Maybe I'm confusing them with someone else.

Haha. I'm glad to see the way I talk has become a trademark around these parts :)
Anyway, Fair To Midland's a pretty good band. I'll have to check this out once I get home from work later. I'd do it now, but if I stream audio, they seriously may sent the state police after me or something ;)

This song title makes me think of the new Silversun Pickups video for "Substitution."

Fair To Midland vs. Day Of Fire is like telling someone to choose which one of their children lives.

Haha well apparently Fair To Midland lived. Then it absolutely obliterated Pop Evil's "Breathe." Just goes to show that if radio programmers actually paid attention to what their listeners liked, Fair To Midland would be charting higher than Pop Evil and Creed. But I bet this song will just barely dent the top 40 of active rock. It deserves to go to #1.
Sorry, I'm obsessed right now.

Wowza, this song is amazing -- and it's a demo! FTM is always awesome, but this song is unusually catchy for them. Tall Tales... flopped as single #2 because it's about as catchy as a cold in the middle of July, but Musical Chairs is really a grower with a sweet hook.

How do we know it's a demo?

I actually liked this. It's like a really good Chevelle song (who are totally capable of making really good songs themselves, but don't always).

I always thought "Tall Tales" was an odd choice for a single but then after I listened to the album constantly it grew on me and now it's one of my favorite tracks on the album. I would've liked to have seen "Kyla Cries Cologne", "The Wife, The Kids, And The White Picket Fence", or "A Wolf Descends Upon The Spanish Sahara" hit radio though.

Arrows and Anchors due out in June through E1 music (formerly Koch records). lubbockonline.com/entertainment/2011-03-04/fair-midland-infuses-alt-metal-bluegrass-grooves?v=1299198633I'm hoping that they stick with "Musical Chairs" as the lead single. That song just sounds like a bona fide hit to me. I hope that they haven't waited too long to release this album because radio needs this band imo. Oh, and I'm seeing these guys Friday with Periphery opening. So stoked. And this is my early pick for Album of the year without having heard the album. Hopefully they meet my ridiculously high expectations.

Yeah, if we had known sooner, we'd be opening this show too. Then again, then we wouldn't have gotten to play mainstage with Apocalyptica because of the Webster's Hartford market rules. Apcalyptica - 700 people on the mainstage or Fair To Midland - 200 people on the underground stage...hmmmmmmm. I guess we did okay. :)

I should have never changed the thread title. I talked to them tonight and they said "Musical Chairs" is going to radio in a couple of weeks. I think it's an awesome choice as I said above. I'm going to be requesting the s**t out of it at my local rock station and having my friends do the same. This song deserves to blow up.
Oh and they were amazing live tonight. The new album is going to be siiiiiiiick!

This song is awesome, as well. I'd like to say it'll go top 20 on Active, but I'd be doing that with more hope than expectation.

Yeah, me too. I would be more hopeful if their label had more of a history with radio. Did Trust Company's "Heart In MY Hands" even go for adds at FMQB or AllAccess? The fact that it didn't makes me nervous about their ability to promote at radio, but that'll also mean that if we see an adds date for this song that there's a better chance of it charting than there was with TrustCompany.
Predictions (depending on how Eone handles this):
Top 20 with legitimate radio push, mid-30s with half-assed radio push, does not chart at all if we see no adds date or listing on AllAccess.
Oh, and if alternative radio wants an active rock band that actually has alternative sensibilities/values and actually fits in with the ideals and aesthetic of "alternative" unlike Saving Abel, My Darkest Days, Theory Of A Deadman, Pop Evil, etc.....
.....Ummm, RIGHT HERE!!!!

These guys are on the same label as Trust Company? Yeah, that doesn't look too good as far as a radio push goes. You're right, "Heart in My Hands" never went for adds, and you'd have thought that fits in more with Active than this does. I'd agree with your predictions, except for the middle part. I think this will either go big or not chart at all.

Really? I could see it pulling a "Tall Tales Taste Like Sour Grapes" and hitting mid-30s.
Also, an advantage these guys have over TrustCompany, is they're much harder to forget and their latest charting single was much more recent.

Well, I think it'll either catch on majorly or not at all.. No middle ground. The situation with the label certainly doesn't help. Also, I really felt like "Walls of Jericho" should have been the second single.

Lead singles from second albums of bands doomed to one hit wonderdom often roughly match the follow-up single off the first album. Obviously with this being a better song and with the label change, there are more variables to consider. I just hope Eone music understands what type of juggernaut they have on their hands if they push this song hard.

The album has been pushed back to July 12th. Hopefully that will give the label more of a chance to push this song at radio before the album comes out, but the lack of an adds date or a single station add on active looks a bit troubling. One alternative station has added it though.
And the single is now out on iTunes!
