You're killin' me!
I think it is a bit too early though that would certainly be my prediction. I think it might have the legs to resurface in the top 50, but I don't think it'll get much higher than it's already been.
And I think E1's lack of a track record at radio is a pretty huge reason why. I think FTM is never going to be a radio band, and they're going to have to go the route of Dream Theater and Porcupine Tree and slowly gain notoriety among music fans and respect in the industry.
I think critics will jizz themselves over this album, and it will be a very common pick for album of the year (not having heard it yet), and I think in that sense, this era will not be a flop in the music industry despite it lacking any mainstream success.
It's also worth noting that its top three supporters at alternative radio are all giving it more spins than any active rock station. I almost wonder if it'd have an equally good shot at making a small dent over there despite being on the heavier side. Hmmm...

My prediction of "no middle ground" on the chart looks to be correct. Although, I could have said this was DOA, considering they're on E1. They couldn't get awesome lead singles from Black Label Society & TrustCompany to do anything either, so there's no shame.

Though now Pop Evil is on E1 starting with "Monster You Made". We'll see how it does, though I imaging that Pop Evil now has an established enough relationship with radio that the label change will hurt them less.
It's also worth noting that "Musical Chairs" has not lost its bullet, but other songs have leapfrogged it. If you look at allaccess, every station that was playing it last week is playing it more this week except for one station on which it's -1. So I will argue that it's not done yet, and it is too early to say that this song has flopped...I'll admit it's not too early to say that this song will be a flop at radio when all is said and done using the same label logic as Mat.

Yeah, I think Pop Evil could be signed to anyone right now and have success. They had no label when "Last Man Standing" was hitting the top 10. E1 have a far harder task with Fair to Midland. It may still have its bullet, but the new singles from Royal Bliss, Seether, Skillet & 311 are gonna push it further down in the next week or so.

You know what? I'm buying this album. It's one of those times where I just have this strange feeling it will be something I will greatly enjoy, even though I've only heard "Musical Chairs" from it, and I've only listened to that like 5 times.

Have you heard anything off Fables From A May Fly such as "Dance Of The Manatee" or any others? The only reason I mention it is that might give you an idea of how you might feel about a FTM album in total, and that record does not have a song on it that I'd give lower than an 8/10. Very consistent record throughout with some VERY catchy choruses and very interesting musicianship as well though the new album appears to be going even further in that direction. Anyway, I applaud your decision. :)

I've only heard "Dance of the Manatee" and "Musical Chairs." Heck, I may buy both albums. The reason I spontaneously decided this was because I was watching the "Musical Chairs" music video and it hit me: "Holy fuck, this is awesome shit.. it's like every band I've ever even mildly liked to the ones that I love, combined into one clusterfuck of a band! Love it!"

How can this be struggling so mightily when everyone loves it? I don't know anyone (online or any of my friends) that dislike this song.

This song went up against Creed - "Rain" on Minneapolis' active rock station 93 X's cagemactch last night, and kicked the s**t out of it. How could this happen? Maybe because the song is freaking awesome!!! (I sounded like AI when i said "freaking awesome" didn't I.) www.youtube.com/watch?v=06WW196yu5c Click the HQ button, cuz the song sounds damn awesome. And now I need to change my pants. I'm about to listen to the new 30 Seconds to Mars. People seem to be digging it, but the new FTM is a damn tough act to follow. And Pen, I don't know who you'd be pulling for, but tonight Fair To Midland goes up against Day Of Fire - "Lately" in the cagematch. I at least feel like I remember you liking them. Maybe I'm confusing them with someone else. Haha. I love 93X. I'm originally from Minnesota, so I found that interesting.

What sucks is that a year and a half ago, "Musical Chairs" won all 5 nights on the cagematch, and they couldn't do anything with it. This year as an official single, it lost in its first night to 12 Stones - "Bulletproof" so now it probably won't even get added. :/

It may still have its bullet, but the new singles from Royal Bliss, Seether, Skillet & 311 are gonna push it further down in the next week or so. And all have four now passed it. 163+ bullet for E1's Pop Evil, though.

"Monster You Made" would be a #1 in the hands of the right label. It still may be, and if it helps E1 gain more ground at radio, I guess I'm for it. Then again I'm not, because Pop Evil is worse than mediocre and the label would probably cease to focus on Fair To Midland at that point, which may have already happened. Signing Pop Evil certainly puts Fair To Midland on your back-burner if you're a label interested in making a splash at radio.

Recurrents give this a much tastier official peak than before. I'm still worried that it's gonna need an extra push before the album's release to go top 40, but #44 is not terribly far off.

It needs to at least outpeak "Tall Tales Taste Like Sour Grapes". Yeah, it's a way better song, though Tall Tales is still pretty good. This is just a much stronger single with a hookier chorus. The viola or cello or whatever it is part in Tall Tales is pretty awesome though.

The intro of "Tall Tales..." really defines FTM's 'folk-metal' sound.

They're more proggy than folky. I would rank "Musical Chairs" above "Tall Tales," but below "Dance of the Manatee" & "Walls of Jericho."
