Posted this in the RT thread.
So I loved Katy Perry's movie! Any Katy Perry fan/stan should see it, I'm sure they would enjoy it. Only negative is I don't think the "3d" was needed. 14:50(x2 since I paid for my roomie as well)is expensive(but worth it for Katy). GaGa was in it(briefly and weirdly) and so was Godelle.
Loved seeing old Katy(never head of "The Box" before, and love it). Even her old home movies, she was relatively the song quirky girl. Wide Awake at the credits was a mistake, they should have placed the current single at the beginning I think.
Only shitty thing was there was trivia before where you could win a Katy T-Shirt or Heart shaped glasses. I was like this will be easy I know everything about Katy. The Question was what 2005 movie was Katy's song "Simple" featured on the soundtrack(Answer Sisterhood of the traveling pants)and I had no idea :( The second question was name "2" Katy Perry songs,,, they asked some old broad who said Teenage Dream and "Like a Firework"(wth).
8 guys in total(a father, 2 boyfriends obviously drugged by their girlfriends, and the rest gayyy). A few little girls, some teens, and some older women. Not a full theater but about 70%. Loved getting pink and blue 3d glasses <3
Movie was an "A". A very good concert documentary. Katy fans will enjoy. It was sad seeing her cry because of Russell and it gave me more reason to love and respect her. All Katy fans see it :)

From BOXOFFICEMOJO.COM.
At 2,730 locations, Katy Perry: Part of Me aims to draw Katy Perry's legion of young female fans to the movie theater. This strategy worked well for distributor Paramount's Insurge label last year when Justin Bieber: Never Say Never debuted to $29.5 million on its way to a $73 million total. Other successful concert movies in the past few years include Michael Jackson's This Is It ($23.2 million debut) and Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour ($31.1 million opening), though there are also recent duds from the Jonas Brothers ($19.2 million total) and Glee ($11.9 million total). Katy Perry is popular enough that her movie will avoid the Jonas Brothers problem, though she's not quite as "of the moment" as Bieber or Hannah Montana were at the time of their movies. There's also frankly more competition for Katy Perry in the Summer than Bieber had in February, with Spider-Man and Brave both doing strong business with young women. Paramount is predicting low-to-mid teens for the movie over its first four days (it opens on Thursday).
Weekend Forecast (July 6-8) 1. The Amazing Spider-Man - $67 million ($142 million six-day) 2. Ted - $31.6 million (-42%) 3. Brave - $20.1 million (-41%) 4. Katy Perry - $13.5 million ($19 million four-day) 5. Magic Mike - $15.7 million (-60%) -. Savages - $11.1 million
Bar for Success Each Spider-Man movie to this point has earned between $144.1 million and $180.1 million through its first six days: with 3D premiums and some ticket price inflation, The Amazing Spider-Man is in good shape if it gets near the very bottom of that range. Katy Perry: Part of Me needs around $20 million for the four-day start to be included in the upper-echelon of concert movies, while Savages is fine if it opens above $15 million.

Box Office Mojo shows the production budget as $12 million.

The Complete Confection is #8 on US iTunes. :'( Also: 81. Teenage Dream 146. One of the Boys :'( It looks like TD is normal price (10), TCC is on sale? (10) and OOTB is on sale (8), correct? Is this being released this weekend worldwide or just US? It comes out in August and September in some countries/continents. That's lame lol they should have done it all worldwide this weekend. So not even one other country this weekend? Box Office Mojo shows the production budget as $12 million. I dunno where you got the $2 million from, but Wikipedia's source takes you to BOM which now shows $12 million haha. #FuckWikipedia :'( Should still easily get a profit! What did you think of the movie Josh, as a Katy hater did you enjoy it? And I don't want any of that I don't hate Katy bullshit, your a hater who stalks her so just the truth please...Well, I'm a horrible movie critic lol. As long as the movie isn't complete shit and it entertains me, I usually like them. That being said, I enjoyed it. It was sad seeing her cry forever lol

No it premiered this weekend too in the UK and in most Latin American countries and I think in Germany as well. Mostly like Middle eastern countries will get it in August/September. I'm not sure, can't find the release date picture.

Ok thanks! Seems like it would be smart to release it worldwide now before Wide Awake peaks and goes away, and Katy's presence starts to fade while she takes her break.

$3.1 million opening day. Looks like BoxOfficeMojo was predicting $5.5m. It's an interesting case as its usually the teen stars who come with 3D concert movies.

I GOT KICKED OUT OF THE THEATER!! :o :( Haha, jk! The movie was really good. I don't think I've seen such a colorful movie. Apparany she met her best friend at a Daft Punk concert, which I think is really cool. Her grandma seems like a bitch! lol, but she was cute putting on the jacket. Her parents are nuts, so it's obvious why Katy rebelled and went the way of Teenage Dream. It was sad when she was crying, cuz her marriage was falling apart, and yet she had to perform within minutes. But as any professional, you wipe those tears away and do yo thang. It was cool when they showed her tying the #1 record. They showed Adele and Lady Gaga briefly. Katy said that Gaga looked like a Hershey's kiss, lol, in that hat. All in all, good flick. I will admit that they try to portray her as someone who is larger than life, and she IS big, the biggest pop radio female right now, but she isn't Madonna big, and I feel they tried to play it off as if she was. But it is cool to know some of her personal background, because that isn't at the forefront of her career like other artists. She definitely has a drive tho and it will be very interesting to see where she goes next, cuz this girl ain't goin nowhere. Plus she honestly cares about her fans. Score: A-

Katy bigger than Gaga in the US? Nah... Gaga may be facing a hits drought, but Gaga is still the bigger star. Katy just has really popular songs, but you dont have to be "popular" to be the bigger star. Gaga is probably the most well known female Pop artist since Britney. Of course Gaga is the bigger star, but she entails so many more things than typical pop stars. Katy is the bigger radio star. Gaga is obviously the bigger star overall (and that encompasses many things). But I feel when people compare Katy to Gaga, they are strictly talking about CHR radio, and Katy has eclipsed her on that front. But definitely not as an overall celebrity.

"I guess it will take 5 days to make the budget" a paramount exec joked. Its going to make a profit. It did better than Jonas brothers and glee who have a tween fan base. Its not a smash but nobody expected it to be.

Even though the box office results aren't fantastic, I believe it's doing wonders for her career & reputation. Plus the single is #1 and the album is high on iTunes.

the album is up to #4 on iTunes. and #1 on Amazon! The movie may not perform that well in the Box Office, but it'll make a profit, and more importantly, its selling Katy's albums!

Its not a smash but nobody expected it to be. It actually performed worse for first 2 days than JoBros (and I assume Glee). Having said that, it makes a profit and sales are way up for her albums this week. Time to wrap up the era. It was a huge 2 years, it'll be interesting to see what comes next.

I saw the movie last night and felt it came across rather calculated. All the scenes stressing how much of an effort she was making to see Russel while on tour, the dramatic breakdown minutes before going on stage in Brazil, the scene where she suggests moving one of the set pieces off to the left so the background screen is more visible, etc. I also didn't like how instead of capturing a moment in time (like Madonna's Truth or Dare doc in which Katy said inspired her to do this film) it played as a "Behind the Music" episode of her life story. Plus, I thought it was lame the songs were cut and not aired in their entirety.
Now I'm not a big fan of hers, but the people I went to the film with are big Katy Perry fans and were also let down.

It's being called a disappointment because movies typically needs to make close to double its budget in order to turn a profit because of the chunk of ticket sales that cinemas/theaters take out from box office sales. So yeah, even a $12 opening doesn't mean it will see profits, it depends on how it holds up after this week. And considering how competitive the summer movie season is.....don't hold your breath. This bit from that Deadline article is a bit strange though Isn't that exactly who the movie studio expects to see these kinds of movies anyway?
