Oh and David actually mentioning it in the same sentence with Aerosmith is both hilarious and scary. How? It's not like I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing is some amazing song. It's pretty cheesy itself. Not to mention, the guy who co-wrote it helped write Take Me As I Am. He said that's just how he thinks of it, anyway.

^ Yeah, I remembered that right after I posted it. Still, Marti Frederiksen has written a load of songs with Aerosmith so that sound may have helped shape TMAIA.

This album seems like it'll do well because of his fanbase. If David were getting some Alternative and Active Rock airplay I think he'd have some moderate hits on those formats but it seems like RCA isn't going to promote him to those formats. Anyway this album is excellent i will definitely make an attempt to get this one.

^Never. Rock radio will probably never get over its authenticity/'cred' hangup.
Anyway, this album is pretty much excellent. Unfortunately, it has something in common with the last one IMO - the lead singles (and on David Cook, Come Back to Me as well) are obviously weaker than everything else. At least last time he had the Idol-winner momentum to get him past that. This time he doesn't have that, and I feel that TLG's blandness is hindering him. I don't understand why they felt the need to go with that...or for that matter to even include it on the album. It's not horrible, it's just such a non-event that it really doesn't deserve its place on the tracklist. CHR probably wouldn't have played any of this anyway but just about all of the other songs would have been stronger for HAC.
And there is also the implied feeling that RCA isn't going to promote this era much. I hope he can at least open with 50k though.

since when rock radio ever play idols. That's the issue he was on idol. So i'm sure no matter how "rock" his material is he won't get airplay there.

Besides all the idol performances, hasn't he been doing radio promo nonstop? I don't remember even Daughtry got more promo than that, certainly not Archie either.

Ignoring any cred issues, I don't think that this album fits the Alternative or Rock formats. Most songs are too bombastic for this, and they don't sound current. In my opinion, Time Marches On with a good radio edit that would make it shorter and remove or change the bombastic second half of the song could succeed on HAC. Goodbye To The Girl is a good song, but I don't think that it fits HAC, may be Triple A. I agree that rosemoor that he had loads of promo: two idol performances, loads of radio gigs, a vh1 interview, Walmart soundcheck, free Itunes download of the video, Itunes banner. It seems that the core fanbase loves the album, and this is a good start. Personally, as a mega fan of pre-dol and idol David who didn't like DCTR, I was looking froward to the sophomore, but I only like two songs off it. I have no idea how the new era is going to pan out.

I wasn't aware of the radio promo he was doing, or the VH1 interview either. That says more about how unaware I was though. What does he have lined up for the week of and week after release? I assume he'll be making the talk show rounds.
I also was looking forward to the second album because I was hoping he'd get to go more in the direction of Analog Heart/Bar-ba-sol. But I did like DCTR so it's not that I'm disappointed in TLM, which is a continuation of that. But as long as David is signed to a major label (or at least, to RCA) I guess we'll never get pre-idol David.
I'm currently obsessed with REM. Just heard the bonus tracks earlier. They are nice, but I see why they were left off the standard.

www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20504530,00.html Cook must think the greatest era of rock history was between 1995 and 1999, when bands like Better Than Ezra and Our Lady Peace pumped alt radio full of post-grunge jangle. Both of those bands' frontmen have co-writing credits on the former Idol victor's second album, This Loud Morning, which too often uses closing-credits-of-a-Michael-Bay-movie bombast to suffocate otherwise sweet, sometimes whimsical experiments like the album-opening ''Circadian.'' I got the Deluxe Edition of This Loud Morning and the EP This Quiet Night in the mail from David Cook Official's store. Listening to it now, so excited. Edit: So this album is pretty much fantastic. So many good songs, and it's very good on the ears. I also love the EP. I'm very satisfied. :)

I finally got to listen to the whole album. I like it, however I was expecting a little bit more of it, given the time he took to craft it and the fact that he had a lot of input on it. I'm a little bit indifferent to half of the tracks... but I'm sure they'll grow on me.
As of this moment, I like the debut album better, but I guess I'll get the love for this album in time
One thing is for sure, both Circadian and Rapid Eye Movement are the two best songs he has ever made. Clever lyrics and such intelligent song titles, amazing and intriguing meaning and great vocals and production to back them up. I also like the fact that Circadian picks up right at the place REM ends... Those are the little details that make me love David's creativity

Circadian, Time Marches On, The Last Goodbye, Paper Heart, 4 Letter Word, and Goodbye To The Girl are the standout tracks for me on this album.

I bet his sales would be 200k if he added some generic hip hop beats with some rapper screaming "Hey, yo" in the backround.

I'm glad they revised their predictions. 50-55k is what I was initially hoping for.

I couldn't even find this at my Best Buy, it was so poorly stocked. After 10 mins I found out that it was actually out of stock. I think RCA under shipped this album. His last album sold 1.3 million copies, that should've warranted them to at least ship 250,000 to stores. I wouldn't be suprised if they shipped 50K-100K. If this album was promoted better at retail and actually displayed better I think it could've sold 100K first week. Only the hardcore fans know about this album and I think he would benefit a lot from casual buyers if they actually knew about the album.

Promoted better? Generic hip hop beats? Rapper?
No, I think this album would have sold better with a CHR hit. The lead single isn't even in the top 100.

My favorite track right now is "This Is Not The Last Time." When it goes into the key change and he starts really going for those power notes that we KNOW he can do in his sleep, I wanted to cheer. If he's going to do the anthem type of songs, then this is definitely the way...

Just curious...is anyone that is posting in this thread a fan of David's and you don't watch AI?
That's the big hurdle for this artists....developing some fans that didn't become fans from watching them on AI.

Not surprised (but disappointed) by his sales. He has zero radio presence. You can't build a fanbase without that. His only hit was his coronation song.
