Is he not going to do anything else? I don't care for the album but it isn't that bad. Any news of any appearances/touring?

Opening up for Gavin DeGraw? Maybe? That would probably be a pretty nice pairing for a theater tour this Fall if true.

Maybe a co-headlining tour?
The SoundScan numbers are discouraging, particularly after only 7 weeks.

His video for Fade Into Me has passed a million views in only a week. That's really good. Took forever for TLG to hit half that amount.

His last album sold above 1.3 million right? This drop is just depressing.

Apparently David's appearing on Idol May 10 and will perform a new song. That probably means this era is over (ugh; so much wasted potential).
Also, I just happened to notice that This Quiet Night will get a digital release on Tuesday, according to Amazon MP3.

Good call. His last album just had no radio-friendly material on it. Releasing another single off it would have been a waste of time. I hope they work on getting some songs that are not overproduced and contain great hooks on this record. He needs a radio hit really badly.

His last album just had no radio-friendly material on it. HAC posters may feel free to roll their eyes, since they've heard this a thousand times by now, but I have to disagree with this. "Paper Heart" practically screamed HAC hit, and I think "Circadian" could have done something if given the chance as well. They could have even taken a Daughtry/Nickelback approach by releasing "Time Marches On" to alt and seeing if it caught on there (probably not due to the whole Idol association, but who knows). "The Last Goodbye" was a terrible choice, though, and I don't really think they pushed very hard from a promotion aspect either. Oh, well; hopefully the next album is as good as This Loud Morning, since it's one of my favorites of '11.

I actually agree that "Paper Heart" had some HAC hit potential. I thought that all along, but that's about it, imo. Also, I was referring more to the fact that the momentum of this era has completely dissipated with radio and sales and that there's nothing left on the album to overcome that. Therefore, I think it would be best to move on. As a cohesive effort, I think it's a pretty good album. With respect to standout individual tracks that could be big hits on radio, I think the album was a big let down. I'm hoping they take into account the poor performance of this album when recording the next one. You should have a bunch of potential radio hits on there if you want the record to sell.

One thing I will say is that I think there was some radio potential on the album but without any major promo there is no chance. I really don't like RCA's approach to releasing material. Maybe it worked with Kelly Clarkson but even there they had to spend millions of dollars establishing her era with a mediocre lead single.
Daughtry isn't doing much either, his album is not bad but the promo is not really there either and radio is not giving him a pass this time.

I'm glad the This Loud Morning era is over. I actually think "Right Here, with You" could've maybe done something, but there still wasn't anything capable of bringing interest in the album. I think "Come Back to Me", with a more pop-infused sound, is along the lines of what he should be releasing. I wonder if they're going to keep the same old Cook sound for the next album or evolve it to a more commercial sound. An Idol performance would be a good platform for that if they are indeed doing the latter.

It appears he has parted ways with RCA.
And another Idol alum bites the dust...it's too bad. It gets really frustrating watching all of these talented Idol alums get screwed over due mostly to piss-poor label treatment.

That's what I was thinking upon seeing the new single, "The Last Song I'll Write For You," listed on Amazon under label "David Cook," and not RCA. Speaking of which, it will be digitally available Thursday following the Idol performance. disclaimer: affiliate link

I wonder if 'The Last Song I'll Write For You' will be one of those fuck-you record label songs, disguised as a breakup song. Think Sara Bareilles' 'Love Song' or 'King of Anything'

Both Cook's and Archie's sophomore album suck. So I'm really not that surprised. But I do think it's kind of brutal how fast the label dump the idols. Kris and Adam, on the other hand, I do think their albums are much better this time. So if they're in danger too because of poor sales which I fully expect, then I'll be really pissed. All in all, idol guys

^Really? I haven't heard (or care to, frankly) Archuleta's album, but This Loud Morning was one of my favorites of 2011.

Geesh...how original and not very smart. I thought David might have the goods to make a career of it but as has been my opinion of him and the other male "stars" from AI (apart from Adam Lambert - his problem is the material only) boils down to star power and material that was just average. Great voices and a story/look that connects with an audience for a short period of time does not make a career as much as a devoted on-line fanbase wants it to. It amazes me how many votes and views these guys can consistently get on internet contests yet the record sales do not match up.

I thought both the Davids' sophomore albums were considerably better than their debut efforts and could've done just fine if their labels gave a shit. But I think both of them suffered from what hurts a lot of Idol contestants, they weren't given enough time to figure out who they were as artists and establish fanbases outside of the wishy-washy Idol followings that fade fast.

I didn't think their albums we're bad at all it's just their label didn't care. They got very little promo, terrible lead single choices and no support. It doesn't matter who you are, if your label isn't behind you, you don't have a chance.

It's out now and I heard it on Tumblr; I can definitely see how it could be a "Love Song"-esque label kiss-off. Not bad.

Well...not nearly as piss-off-ish as I expected lol. It's another pretty tame HAC ballad.
