Hoping Leona may get nominated. Echo is an amazing album. So hope the grammy's give it the recognition it deserves. Hoping Can't breathe is released then hits big. IMO that would deserve female pop vocal performance! :)

I really hope the show is in February this year. There was absolutely zero need to move the eligibility period back a month due to the show getting moved back like, a week.
Unfortunately, I doubt Leona will get nominated for anything next year. "I Will Be" deserved a nomination over "Hot N' Cold." Too bad they went with the big hits this year over the actual vocal performances. (Yes, yes -- I understand that the category is to differentiate over instrumental performances, but still.)
Christina will be a Best Female Pop Vocal nominee for sure. Gaga and Beyonce have a lock for a Best Pop Collaboration w/ Vocals nod. Gaga will probably be nominated in win in the Best Electronica/Dance Album category again. If "The Fame" was able to nab a win then "The Fame Monster," definitely deserves one.
Expect to see "Need You Now" in either the SOTY or ROTY categories -- maybe even both. I wouldn't be surprised if Lady A nabbed an AOTY nomination as well.
And if her success continues, I wouldn't be shocked to see Ke$ha in the BNA category.
Carrie will obviously be a lock for a Best Country Female Vocal Performance nomination and hopefully will earn herself her first nomination in the Best Country Album category.
John Mayer is a lock for a nomination in the Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance categories.

I think and hope, and with the quality of The Fame Monster being greater than The Fame, GaGa will win big next year.

Who should win, I don't know, but as of now these artists are most likely going to get noms...
Lady Antebellum, BEP, Gaga, Sade, Susan Boyle?

Um, no. This thread shouldn't be locked. ??? We can discuss contenders throughout the Grammy eligibility period. It deserves to be opened.

It's too early for this thread. Mod, lock it please. It's definitely early, but if people want to discuss early contenders and new ones as they come up, that's fine with me, so I'll leave it open. If this thread veers off topic or becomes plagued by fan wars or other nonsense, it's getting locked; for now, it looks like there's relevant discussion taking place.

I was going to say this is too soon, but we really are about halfway+ through the eligibility period if it spans from September-August still.

It's too early for this thread. Mod, lock it please. Such a killjoy. Anyway, I'd say thus far the big nominees look to be Lady A, Sade, John Mayer (seems to be a Grammy's fav), Alicia Keys, Jay-Z, Gaga and others I'm forgetting... weird to think that there's only 5 months left in the eligibility window for this year. Even though she's proven to be a massive seller, I don't think Susan Boyle will get any major nods, if any.

What new artists (as of know) seem to have a possibility for a BNA nod? No one really comes to mind, that deserves a nomination...

Chile, Ke$ha is definitely a contender for BNA, but deserving she is not.

Christina will be a Best Female Pop Vocal nominee for sure. If she ever releases her album. The Fame was a better album then TFM. Not to mention it was a lot more dance based then TFM. Can EP's even be nominated in this category? and TFM isn't even all electronic/dance music. BNA gets more and more meaningless each passing year.

Of course TFM can be nominated, back in the days, most albums were 8-9 songs. But I do agree that TFM is not really dance based, Interscope should really throw this one into the Pop category.

Who are the legitimate contenders for Best New Artist? That's the only category I'm most excited about every year.
Not that I'm rooting for them, but Kid Cudi and Drake are not eligible right?
I'm assuming guys like Jay Sean and Jason Derulo are eligible?

Lady A, Alicia Keys, Sade, John Mayer are all contenders, imo. Maybe Rihanna.
Also, I don't know if this is silly to ask, but is it possible for the Glee cast to be nominated? Like the soundtrack for best pop vocal album, or Lea Michele for best female pop vocal performance?

I'm calling it right now, unless Carrie releases SWISLY before the eligibility period ends, MirLam will walk away with Country Song (or is it called single...?) and Country Female Vocal, in addition to her Country Album win. I prefer PO because I feel like Carrie is 10x the interpreter, but MirLam chose some brilliant songs and sang them very well.
If Team Carrie pushes something to pop, I expect she'll pull a Swizzle and get a boat load of noms. As of right now, I expect Lady A to do well, but that's assuming they get another crossover hit.

Kid Cudi and Drake are ineligible for Best New Artist because they received nominations. However, B.o.B and Wale are eligible.
I think Lady Antebellum and Sade are clear standouts for nominations this go round. I'm not sure if Sade will get into the general field because they never have outside of Best New Artist, which they won. But they should. Their album is incredible. But I expect them to be strong contenders for the R&B and/or Pop field for sure. If Lady Antebellum continues to sell well throughout the year and get a few hits out, I think they will land in the big three or at least one or two of them.

"Bad Romance" should go to Dance Recording. "Speechless" should go Pop Vocal. "Telephone" should go Pop Collabo. That would be three easy nominations for GaGa. Four if The Fame Monster goes Dance Album or maybe Pop Album.

There's also a music video category right? I'm sure she could get a nomination there.

I think Jay-Z & Alicia Keys are big contenders for Record and Song Of The Year.
Rap Song and Rap Sung Collaboration are almost sure wins for them.
