Will Christina Aguilera ever recover from this huge flop album and be a relevant artist again?

Yes, mainstream, radio-friendly album out in 2H 2011. Courtesy of RCA.

I think she can be successful again if she gives in and releases generic pop music like she did with Stripped and stop trying to be artsy and ambitious. Her album is getting trashed by critics so she can stop calling it a work of 'art'. She should get in the studio by the end of this summer and have an album out by the end of next summer. If she takes 3 or 4 years off again she is done.
Also she needs to stop with the bitchy pretentious attitude. It makes people not even want to support her when she goes around talking about herself like her s**t dont stink. I think she has in her head that she and Madonna are the same person yet Christina has never contributed anything substantial to pop music or pop culture where she can be talking about pushing boundaries and being an innovator or whatever.

Well I don't think she's calling it a work of art as much as work she's proud to release. I really doubt she cares what critics think.
But to answer the question, YES I agree with you. She can def make a comeback if she gives into the labels demands. I think if the music was good enough (generic enough for mainstream pop) people won't care too much about her "bitchy" attitude

While I enjoy a lot of Bionic, one BIG flaw I notice in a lot of her songs is the juvenile lyrics. Lyrics don't always have to be amazing, but some of the lines are just..

Um, didn't she sell like 150k first week? Given the track record of big artist sales in the past year, how does that make her irrelevant? She's doing great compared to most pop artists.

Someone needs to put together a chart of the top opening weeks in the past 12 months. I kind of doubt Christina's numbers are that low, comparatively.

Even if you dont personally consider her numbers bad the first single missed the top 20 on billboard and the album debuted with barely over 100k. She is not going to make a career out of doing that. Shes been showing diminishing returns with each albums shes released. Shes either going to recover from it or continue the trend.

If she releases the right material at the right time, she'll be able to come back. She's talented, and there's no denying talent.

I usually say 'anything is possible' but for some reason, I just don't think so. I don't think she'll put out another album- she seems so bitchy and prissy about what people think about her, and I think this has been such a huge embarrassment that she would rather put out nothing than go through it again, but I do see her guesting on other people's singles.
IT'S OVER FOR HER.

Yes, just wait six months when Burlesque becomes a huge hit. Chicks will dig it. The Gays will be squealing with delight. And straight guys and lezzies will be getting major boners. Trust me, I have a sixth sense for these things.

^Was it the same 6th sense that predicted NMT would be a hit and Bionic would open with over 200k?

Did Cyndi's career ever recover? What a narrow-minded way of looking at things. Patti LaBelle achieved her first #1 album on the Top 200 twenty-five years deep into her career. Look at Leonard Cohen -- selling out arenas in his seventies. The point is there are all sorts of career trajectories and Christina has gots the chops to be around a loooong time.

YES !
Unlike most of the folks on here, I do not consider 'Bionic' a huge "flop", although it will probably be Christina's lowest-selling record to date. Christina has established herself as a ultra-talented vocalist with some commercially well-received hits, some critically well-received more personal material, and some trashier, not-as-well received material, like many of her contemporaries. Because her name is still very big in the industry, I do not feel that she is going away anytime soon. Britney, Kelly, Mariah are just some of other mainstream female artists who had relatively underperforming records in the past 10-15 years, yet managed to "recover" because they had already established themselves. Christina is no different.
By contrast, if Katy, Kesha, Leona (especially after reviewing her second album sales) had an similarly underwhelming era, certainly their careers would be in jeopardy by a MUCH greater amount, simply because they are not as well established.

She's gonna bounce back with her second single from this album and that would be with "You lost me"
She is Christina Aguilera one of the the most talented if not the MOST talented women in the industry.

She needs Clive Davis. He saved Whitney last album. He could save Aguilera's career.
