HDD: -- 18 BURLESQUE RCA/RMG 62,514 -- SOUNDTRACK Above expectations! Selling above and beyond the predicted. This must be good karma because as I type this she is slaying on an old SNL episode on VH1.

Its good to see the film and soundtrack doing a bit over expectations. I think it would be reaching if someone tried to characterize either as an embarrassing flop now. Now if only Castle Walls becomes a hit and THEN she brings it next year with an awesome cd

The film is not doing better than expectations. It's not a complete disaster, but all things taken into account is should be performing better.

Ah i was so close. Those sales would have been even bigger if the OST wasn't out of stock in a lot of places. Exactly. It was the third watched movie yesterday a Yep the third watched movie yesterday and it made almost a million. The film is not doing better than expectations. It's not a complete disaster, but all things taken into account is should be performing better. It did 1st week exactly as much as the studio predicted.

It did what the studio expected, better than a lot of the early doomsday predictions that were quoted as scientific accuracy, the cd sold more than even the highest estimate for it, and it is doing better than what the average musical has done if you look at the list of recent musicals. I don't see how that means it should be performing better. I am not going to say it is a wild unbelievable smash, but it is doing what it should do and perhaps even better than expected.

Speaking as a citizen of the world, I predict the movie will do well in foreign markets.

It came in slightly lower than the studios already conservative $18 million projection. Based on the amount of marketing they did for this one it should have at least cleared $20 million. The budget was $55 million and they likely spent somewhere in the same ballpark on marketing. It's underperforming.

I am confused why you are calling it a conservative estimate-it is doing better than most musicals. It is matching some of the previous musicals that were considered big hits with similar budgets or even higher. Why is that considered a flop? Is it because it has Christina in it? I am genuinely curious. I feel like it would be if I ran into a Pink topic and said her album flopped even though it sold as well as or better than most pop cds because it should have sold like Taylor Swift (who sells more than everyone). Is there some kind of analysis with movies where you don't compare it to other types in its genre?

I hadn't been able to find that info anywhere.

I am interested to see how it will do overseas-it is getting released, correct? Though according to people on here overseas money doesn't count so it won't count toward its total???

Yeesh Nikki Finke lambasted it. Well I am glad the soundtrack is doing well. I think Xtina sounds amazing. Definite staple on the ipod.

I'm so glad that the Soundtrack did better than expectations. And that the movie is doing fairly well.
I hope this is the start of a new beginning for Christina. I want her to dominate radio. I want to hear her as often as I do Kesha, Katy, Gaga, etc.
She just has wayyyy too much talent to go into oblivion.

This movie is not a flop nor an underperformer. There is no way Tangled is going to recoup back its insane budget and marketing expenses with its domestic total, and no one is calling that movie a flop nor an underperformer.

This movie is not a flop nor an underperformer. There is no way Tangled is going to recoup back its insane budget and marketing expenses with its domestic total, and no one is calling that movie a flop nor an underperformer. I don't know as much about movie stuff as I do music stuff so when I ask questions in here it is because I genuinely don't know-it does seem like a lot of movies do what Burlesque does though. Like, I don't see people doubling the budget and then adding in more and then calling other films flops for not making that back in American gross or something. I think what makes this seem like a non-flop to me the most is that while some critics think its a terrible movie (and it probably is) that audiences who DO see it seem to be enjoying it, the soundtrack is getting really, really good feedback, and I haven't seen a single article call the movie's performance so far a flop where they have been for other recent movies. Plus, it is performing in line with other musicals. So, while not a smash hit, I think it is definitely a step in the correct direction from Bionic which was basically universally panned, hated, and called a flop by everyone under the sun. Some fans may hate me for saying that, but it was-let us call something out for what it is

The performances of Cher, Miss Aguilera, Stanley Tucci, Kristen Bell, Eric Dane, Cam Gigandet, and a get-up-and-dance soundtrack lift this movie into the hugely entertaining category. (The wonderful Alan Cumming is wasted in a role clearly meant to echo Joel Grey's master of ceremonies in "Cabaret." It's good to see him, anyway.) "Burlesque" is nonstop fun, a great big camp that doesn't attempt to take itself seriously. It is 2010's ultimate guilty pleasure. Be a snob and dislike it -- nobody will believe you. Pish. Tosh and nertz to those who worship "serious cinema." As Redford said to Barbra in "The Way We Were" -- "Everything is too serious to be so serious."

I'm loving her part in T.I.'s Castle Walls. She sounds fantastic, and it's a great song.
