I liked her follow up song "Under The Water" even better - has cool male back up vocals "I'll be your lover... under the water." Anyone remember that one?

It was my #1 song for two different years even... and probably the #2 or #3 song for me since 1988, when I started my chart! FYI the undisputed #1 in terms of chart impact and longevity is "Missing" by Everything But The Girl. Of course Dido has had several more #1 songs since "Here With Me" first made it in 1999.

I was there in Atlanta when Celine sang this - what an incredible moment for her! She nailed her performance (of course) - the only time I've seen something go wrong with her performance was at some awards show this past year - the Grammy show maybe? Her microphone kept cutting out while she sang a Luther Vandross tribute (Dance With My Father) - not her fault though!
By the way this is on the single (2 track) with "It's All Coming Back To Me Now"...another classic!

Oh... I had never seen this video before - thanks for the link! One of the few times David Foster actually sang on one of his songs. I really liked this then, and still now... hard to believe it's been 18 years ago already! Of course looking and David and Olivia, yes it does seem like they've aged! I saw David Foster not too long ago at a concert and he definitely looks much older now! Thanks again!

This is my #1 song based on chart history since 1988, by quite a large margin. spending 11 weeks at #1 but over 70 weeks on the list! I liked and still like both versions, as well as numerous remixes. In fact, I am playing this right now!!

Yes... I've been hearing this on commercials recently as well. I actually have their whole CD, as well as the single CD5 with the mixes. In spite of the very strange looking people on the cover, I really liked the whole CD. They have a song called "Big" which is quite good, and "The Child (Inside)" did very well on my personal chart. I have absolutely no idea who or what they did after releasing this CD, which was on Arista.

This was a #1 on my personal chart... it's actually a remake of a song by Everything But The Girl, which is one of my favorite groups! EBTG's version was really great too - it's actually a rare track that's not that easy to find. I liked the radio remix of Karen's version the best. And it is a shame that (although it did very well on the dance charts) she didn't get some radio exposure with this. ... and you spelled her name correctly!

Yes --- it's a remake of a classic song. Let me know sometime and I will send to you... I believe it came from a George Martin CD compilation "In My Life" (a Beatles tribute album). Believe it or not, Sean Connery performs "In My Life" on that CD! (Chantal performed it a few years later too...)

I liked it then and I like it now - still not tired of it! I liked a few of their other songs too - they hit the Top 40 before this with a song called "Oh Girl" which was also good, but not as memorable.
Boy Meets Girl also wrote another classic Whitney track "How Will I Know"... so they're still making money on those songs at least!

This is a total guilty pleasure of mine from 1986 or so. I was working my first job at the time and can remember most everyone being really "into" this song, and even the video, mimicking Stacey spinning around in different outfits. I just saw this as #98 on VH1's "Greatest One Hit Wonders" countdown, but the thing is Stacey was NOT a one hit wonder!
"We Connect" did hit #35, and a song from the second album, "Don't Make A Fool Of Yourself" made it into the 60's - not a hit, but a good song! That would should have done better.
Another song that was out at the same time as this was "Baby Love" by Regina, which made #10. This one sounded very similar to Madonna's sound at the time. As far as I know, Regina was never heard from again!

I've played this 5-6 times in the last week alone, strangely enough. Actually it's because I finally got a hold of the extended version remix, which is great! I used to have the 12" single for this (actually I still have it, but no turntable!) and played it over and over again. I'm still not sick of it either. The funny thing is seeing Gloria's picture with the band on the record - she was just a little bit pudgy back then! (in a sorta cute way). This song is a classic and has some of the best percussion I've ever heard in a popular song.

This remains an all-time favorite of mine as well. I love everything about it...
Regarding the influence thing, I don't usually obsess over an artist, but do have certain songs, or in some cases albums, that I will really try to expose people to. I can think of several instances where that's "worked" on here in getting people really interested in certain songs. That's one of the benefits of this type of board - learning about all kinds of new music!

I don't like it. It's annoying. Hey... the last oh 6,7 posts I have read today about songs have had one from you saying "I don't like it."... and most all of them are songs I liked or still like. That's cool and all... as we must have very different tastes in music. I just rarely post anything on something I just "don't like"! I will check your chart to see what you DO like!

Loved this song... still like it alot. The "Rollo's Big Mix" which is also on the CD is very good, as is the original version... Strange with all the #1 dance club songs she has had that this was the only one to reach the Hot 100.

I loved this song - I worked in a music store around the time this came out and played that CD quite a bit in the store (and sold several copies!) "One and One" features Maria Nayler is also extremely good. Robert Miles did come out here in the USA with 2 more CD's - the first one "23am" was quite good, but I don't have the second one "Organik".
He had a pretty big club hit with one single from "23am" - a great song called "Freedom" which was sung by Kathy Sledge of Sister Sledge.
I have all on mp3's as well...

This was one of my all-time favorite songs (and it still is). I was glad about the re-release in 1989 because that enabled me to get the song on a cassette single, whereas before that I could not find the song anywhere. This is still really difficult to find on a CD, however there are a few mp3s of it circulating. I admit it did take lots of attempts to find it even a couple of years ago! Where I lived at the time (in the Carolinas) it definitely was not overplayed.

What about Kylie Minogue (here in the USA) - granted she didn't sustain too long either time, but it was well over 10 years between her two main periods of popularity!

Lara is definitely up there with the best... combine that with some really great material that she writes, and it's close to perfect. WHEN will Sony wake up? All that talent going to waste here... Celine, Lara, Casey Stratton, Anastacia, Darren Hayes... the list goes on! All on Sony WHY?!

There are tons of others, those are just top of mind for me at the moment.

I'm lovin' it... but have to admit that I just didn't clue in to the "female masturbation" references :) I will have to read the lyrics more carefully.
I missed the entire Scarlet's Walk tour, so I'm loving the DVD performances. The interviews (with Tori and with her mother) were great!
Thanks for the review!

"Can't Let Go" (album version only not the single edit!) This was her first song NOT to go #1 on BB (it was #2!) but I think her best!
