Since Tina is now gone, I will kick off the next round with... Whitney Houston.

Chaka Khan (that's how it's spelled) :) Yeah she's great but not really a "diva" in my mind.

Borderline was the first top 40 single...the rest only hit the dance scene before she came famous Actually "Holiday" peaked at #16 on the Hot 100, followed by "Borderline" (#10) and "Lucky Star" (#4) - These are the Hot 100 positions.

Well, "Stoned" is already #15 on the club play chart, but I have yet to hear the Deep Dish remix. I wish she would release a CD single with some mixes (White Flag & Stoned) but Arista would probably decide to come out with that maybe a year from now... that is what happened with the Thank You single. Anyway, to radio I anticipate "Life For Rent" will be next... but I personally like "Stoned" also.

Hmmm... Lisa Loeb I guess. Even better would be a combo of all five, meaning "I Do I Do I Do I Do I Do" by Abba. I had forgotten that song until I saw "Mamma Mia!" a while back!

I really liked this one too! After quite a while I finally got a hold of it - and I do play it from time to time still!

Definitely one of my favorites from Sheena! Well, I thought hardly anyone else knew of it. I had the cassette of the album "Lover In Me" and stumbled into this really, but it became my favorite on the tape. I only recently learned that it had been a club hit, or even that it was released. I still play it quite a bit and agree with all the comments about the lyrics and the vocal. Deserved to be VERY well-known.

this was good but my favorite was ONE NIGHT IN HEAVEN which came out right after this in the USA. I really have liked many of their songs, including their cover of the Doobie Brothers "What A Fool Believes"... and "Testify" and really quite a few others.

This was interesting... but you all sure make me feel older!
US: "Joy To The World" / Three Dog Night UK: "Hot Love" / T. Rex Life Theme (US): "Like A Prayer" / Madonna
Very interesting combination!

This song is just perfect. It's my favorite Paula song I think... though she has lots that I like. I love the intro and especially the album version... Much later I heard the remix and I agree it's fantastic. The rest of the "Amen" album was not consistent with this song though... I miss Paula's music, though I heard that she's working to release something new soon.

I also liked their first single "Magic Carpet Ride" (which was NOT a remake)... it was very very poppish! Their producer was the guy behind Stacey Q as well...
Bardeux's CD was actually pretty consistent too!

"Under The Boardwalk" WAS a single - I distinctly remember that it was released BEFORE "Wind Beneath My Wings" - I think it even had a cassette single! At any rate this is very good album overall (though short!)

I actually saw the video for this the other day on VH1 Classic! I love that channel I must say... it was a very low budget video but told a story with a spy/espionage theme. It was kind of ahead of its time in that the spying was accomplished with a small camera decoy sort of like you hear about people using today. Regina (Richards) has a very unique look. I wonder what ever became of her... Also, due to timing I always link this song to another Atlantic records hit at the same time, which was "Two of Hearts" by Stacey Q.

Des'ree is so talented and it's a shame that she's had such limited success in the USA! I was privileged to see her live and that was a great experience as well!

I remember watching the TV show "America's Top 10" with Casey Kasem the week that this was #8! Of course I had the MCA 45 RPM single and wore it out! Mine even skipped where at the end it says "for you... Xanadu" and mine said "for you...oo oo oo". It is a very whispery vocal but it suits the song well. Now I did also watch this movie not too long ago and it is REALLY bad, but the music was the best!
I also liked the song "Magic" which hit #1, and the Electric Light Orchestra songs "All Over The World" and "I'm Alive" - oh yes and the Olivia/Cliff Richard duet "Suddenly". XANADU had I believe 5 charting Top 40 singles and was a very successful soundtrack!
