^Haha I figured someone would think that was the case. I am actually interested in seeing how SuBo's album holds up in the second week, even though come Thanksgiving week (the week after), the sales probably will perk up nicely. As for Mimi's album, I think it has a shot at scanning in the neighborhood of 500K through year's end. Mimi's holiday special airs around the time holiday sales usually peak- so that could see its biggest sales week (if not the biggest, then close to it).

I don't think it's 'hating', so much as simply acknowledging that the material on her albums is god-awful and Susan Boyle, in particular, is a perfect representation of everything currently wrong with the music industry. There's no need for an 'artist' like her now. She's pointless. Nor is there a need for a majority of the pop artists out now but they're THERE. Amen!! lol

BTW- this was Billboard's Wednesday report on the battle for No. 1. We'll see if there are updated projections posted today. www.billboard.com/news/susan-boyle-battling-taylor-swift-for-no-1004126065.story#/news/susan-boyle-battling-taylor-swift-for-no-1004126065.storySusan Boyle Battling Taylor Swift for No. 1 on Billboard 200by Keith Caulfield, L.A. | November 10, 2010 5:03 EST Two of music's leading ladies are about to meet again on the charts. Susan Boyle, who finished 2009 with the year's second-biggest selling album according to Nielsen SoundScan, is eyeing the No. 1 slot on the Billboard 200 next week. Standing in her way? The woman who took home last year's best-seller, Taylor Swift. Boyle's second album, "The Gift," released yesterday (Nov. 9) is perhaps headed for a start of around 250,000 copies sold by week's end on Nov. 14 according to industry prognosticators. However, Swift's current No. 1, "Speak Now," may also sell about the same number. It's a bit early in the week to call the race, especially considering how Swift will perform on tonight's Country Music Association Awards -- which are always a catalyst for music sales. And, because Boyle's appeal is likely focused with older consumers, her album's fortunes may improve over the weekend when families and grandparents are out shopping at their local big box retailer. Boyle's debut set, "I Dreamed a Dream," blasted in at No. 1 a little under a year ago with 701,000 sold in its first week according to SoundScan and spent six weeks atop the list. "Dream" closed out 2009 with 3.1 million sold, just a little over 100,000 copies behind the year's best-seller: Swift's "Fearless" (3.2 million). Other albums heading for a high arrival on next week's Billboard 200 include Reba McEntire's "All the Women I Am," Bon Jovi's "Greatest Hits," the "Now 36" compilation, Cee Lo Green's "The Lady Killer," Elvis Presley's "Viva Elvis," Alter Bridge's "AB III" and Kid Cudi's "Man on the Moon 2: the Legend of Mr. Rager."

UPDATE: Looks like Susan Boyle's emerged as the favorite for #1 next week though the impact of Wednesday night's CMA Awards has yet to be reflected in the physical numbers. Here's how next week's HITS Top 50 Album Sales chart looks based on midweek sales reports:

So pretty much nothing changed except Subo's prediction was heightened a bit?

If HITS spoke to retailers Thursday, that would reflect some impact from the CMAs.
The projection for SuBo's album looks comfortable enough for SuBo to take No. 1 (especially since her core audience may shop over the weekend). Question is, will it be her only week on top through the end of the year?

Groban's album again was the top seller of 2008- not sure what the best-selling new holiday title from that year was, off-hand. I believe it was Enya's And Winter Came... that year.

^That may be it. Enya's album was released Nov. 10, 2008, and scanned 92,411 in its first week. it dropped 10% in its second week, to 83,311. I recall that album hanging around longer than most holiday albums, probably because it also had a "winter" theme, in addition to Christmas. Through its time on the Billboard 200, the album scanned around 640K.

I hope Boyle debuts at #2. I'd like Taylor to get at least one more week at #1. Hopefully Rihanna gets it next week, but with Boyle you never know, she could just increase next week.

So SuBo's first week projection increased a bit. Good for her. We will see in the long run how it will perform. I don't think it'll stay at #1 for another week. Taylor is a pretty consistent seller

Does anyone under the age of 65 listen to Susan Boyle? I don't get her appeal. Or maybe I'm just biased because I can't stand talent show "artists".

"TG" climbs to #5 on Itunes. This is a good sign for her, 'cause after its release on Tuesday was not even Top 10.

^It's no different than people feeling that way about any other act that sells ridiculously well. I felt this way during the whole teen-pop years of 1999-2002. I could not comprehend those numbers, especially first-week numbers.
SuBo has a nice, easy-on-the-ears voice- for those who enjoy her, great.

Eminem is releasing a new single before Christmas. A bit worried, maybe? But reasonable thing to do,i guess. This will def lock him as bestselling this year.

He'll have it either way...unless Tswift pulls out a You belong with me style hit...I think at best she will come close but not over. She own next year regardless. Eminem should get his #1. There wasn't much out this year that is deserving anyway.

This should be the biggest opening for a Holiday album of the Soundscan era, correct? Off the top of my head... Clay Aiken and Celine Dion both debuted within the range of Boyle's projection (268,000 I think). Anyone know of any higher? Has a female artists holiday album every debuted at #1? Has a female artists holiday album ever GONE to #1?? ??? 2M, can you answer this?
