Some notable releases for 11/16 include Josh Groban, Kid Rock, Nelly, Rihanna, Rascal Flatts and Bruce Springsteen's The Promise (comprised of previously unreleased material from the Darkness On the Edge of Town sessions). Also, Pink releases her Greatest Hits and Annie Lennox has a holiday album (though they will not be contenders for the top spot).

This should be the biggest opening for a Holiday album of the Soundscan era, correct? Off the top of my head... Clay Aiken and Celine Dion both debuted within the range of Boyle's projection (268,000 I think). Anyone know of any higher? Has a female artists holiday album every debuted at #1? Has a female artists holiday album ever GONE to #1?? ??? 2M, can you answer this? I'm quoting my own post so that 2M or other chart experts can look into my question. Boyle might be making history.

Very well may be- when Barbra Streisand's A Christmas Album initially was released, Billboard did not chart holiday albums on the Billboard 200. Amy Grant and Celine Dion peaked at No. 2, Mimi Carey peaked at No. 3. Charlotte Church peaked at No. 7.

Has a female artists holiday album ever GONE to #1? According to this, the answer is no. (See 1998 entry.)

103 K for Susan Boyle in UK. That's a huge fall from 411k's that her previous album opened with.

Yah- that's roughly a 75% dip in the UK. But, it looks like the U.S. decline will be a bit smaller percentage (if it opens with 245K, that would be a 65% decline- it's projected to open higher than that).
Plus, note that holiday-related albums do not fare as strongly in the UK/Europe as they do in the USA.

I thin Rascal Flatts will give Rihanna a run for #1. NOt sure about Nelly or Keith Urban.

Groban, Rascal Flatts and Evancho will vie for the top 3. The Pink GH will fight for top 10.

I think Rascal Flatts will be #1 - their last album opened with 350k back in April 2009. I think them opening with 250k to 300k this time.
Keith Urban, Josh Groban, Rihanna, Taylor Swift, SuBo, Kid Rock and Nelly will fight it out for the next few positions, IMO.

Yes- as a compilation, Pink's album will not compete for the top spot.
Will be interesting to see Evancho's performance- it's an EP (4 songs), with a DVD component.

If some of these younger "artists" can have a #1 album and all this popularity, I don't see why people have a problem with Susie having it as well.
I don't think a 40-something talent-show contestant with a good voice singing safe MOR covers is any worse than when 20-somethings who can't sing, 'rap' about "Je-sus on their neck-lace" with their drunk-sounding auto-tuned voice....
But, hey. That's just me....

Ha that sounds about right. I likened someone's distaste for SuBo to mine and the interchangeable teen pop that was being churned out circa 1999-2002 or so- but, hey, there was an audience for it.

IDK... Nelly has a hit, but I don't totally feel the hype. I do think he lost a lot of his fans over the years. I think as long as he has more hits he will hold up well, but I don't know if his first week will be 200k.
