Bocelli's holiday album gained 73% and Taylor Swift's 85%? Josh Groban probably saw a nice percentage increase, too..
Was Lady A's holiday EP in the Target circular? It's a Target exclusive EP, so perhaps.
Mimi's 15% gain is fine, but not overwhelming. She'll definitely see a bigger percentage increase in one of the next few weeks.
The top 10 sold 1.842 million, compared to the 1.484 million the top 10 sold last year on the HITS chart. The slew of new releases, and SuBo, didn't hurt.

Mimi's 15% gain is fine, but not overwhelming. She'll definitely see a bigger percentage increase in one of the next few weeks. Not overwhelming, but it was the 6th biggest percentage gain on the chart with zero promo and no big sales or advertisements. I just think it's a sign of good things to come considering she does have quite a good bit of promo on the way. Out of curiosity, 8 of the top 10 albums are debuts this week. Have there ever been 9 or 10?

True, but other holiday albums saw larger gains, with no promo. I'm not saying that to diminish the showing, just that I'm not sure what people are expecting it to do. It's going to gain, it's not a surprise. The only sure thing is this: Mimi's album likely will not be regarded as a huge success, nor is it likely to be regarded as a flop. :)

I think the promo she has lined up in the coming weeks will help her get there.

i'm so glad Rihanna broke the 200k Yep. I didn'think she would do it but I was proven wrong. No complaints on her first week sales now that she has crossed the 200k threshold.

A 2-9 drop for Taylor seems big. However, looking at the -29% sales drop doesn't seem bad at all. It was just a competitive week. Which is great for sales!

Last Year Kris became the first idol to miss the top 10 on billboard. -- 17 LEE DEWYZE 19/RCA/RMG 39,602 -- LIVE IT UP
Looks like next year they could miss the top 20. Huge drop for Cudi, but im stilll stunned from his opening numbers. Cee lo doesnt fall too hard because of glee :) and Susans old album back in the top 50 :) hopefully it can pass the 4 million mark by the end of the holidays. One beatle album back in the top 50.

I think it's most likely that em will have the top selling album of the year. Realistically, who is his competition: Taylor??? She needs to pull bigger numbers to beat him (also, they should have lined up by now a successful single if they want those big numbers). Boyle??? It will sell well going into Christmas, but will experience a rather decline the last two weeks of the year (which are the best selling weeks), cuz it being a Christmas album, people buy it before Christmas, not during or after.

I don't think just touching the 200K mark is really that different from selling 190K. But, I am DEFINITELY in the minority of people who doesn't think around 200K is shriekingly amazing for someone who has the amount of promo, name recognition, and multiple hits on multiple formats like Rihanna or people similar to her have had. But, apparently people disagree and say she was under-promoted and Only Girl really isn't a big hit so maybe my judgment is off A good, solid total, but I really cannot imagine labels being in ecstasy about 200K opening numbers for artists that get that much attention, promo cash, airplay, etc even during this time and day.

Well, she did better than Katy with equal promo and bigger hits. And, she did better than Xtina with better promo (but no hit)

Lady A gained a lot during the last few weeks. Maybe they still have a chance... No? I don't think so. They will continue to sell good but not more than Recovery. I think Lady A has a few more 30-35K weeks. But Eminem will do the same. Lady A does have a shot at being #2 though. I would bet they finish #2.

And, she did better than Xtina with better promo (but no hit) Katy actually had more promo than Rihanna did and her hits were bigger (CG - #1 for 7 weeks, more AI). WMN hitting #1 in it's 2nd week isn't equivalent to when CG made it to #1. And I'm not getting why people say Rihanna had a lot of promotion when it was actually quite weak. She's only had about 3 TV appearances for this and it all happened the week of release. The AMA's makes 4 but that was this week. I think some are confusing her internet/blog omnipresence as some type of promotion. 200k is a good number for Rihanna to start with. Definitely not shriekingly amazing but it's a good debut.

Actually I think Katy only had Letterman and the Today show during her debut week, unless I missed something. Being that Rihanna released in an obviously higher traffic week during the Holiday season, I'd say they were on a pretty equal playing field.
Either way, I think they both did great with their openings. They've both shown in the past that their albums have longevity, so a high debut week isn't quite the end all be all that some are painting it to be.

True. Those are good openings for both, but you can't help but question why the # isn't higher when taking in account single success & fanbase.
