The gap between Eminem and Taylor drops to 900k this week. With a month left, the race should be down to the wire. I don't think it will be that close. Em's got it.

Lee DeWyze should have named his album "Fail It Up"

It seems the American public is less like the American media which begins vomming Christmas as soon as the last candy wrapper is opened on Halloween evening. They at least wait until after Thanksgiving to crank up the holiday favorites.

The gap between Eminem and Taylor drops to 900k this week. Actually it's a bit bigger. If SS #'s aren't far off from Hits, then Em will be at 3.05 million and Swift will be at 1.98 million, a difference of almost 1.1 million. With 4 and half sales weeks left in the year, Taylor will need to sell about 1.3-1.4 million to get that #1 of the year. She would need to sell about 289,000-311,000 per week to achieve that feat. Not likely but not impossible by any means.

Depends on what you were expecting it to open with. I think that's pretty good so far. Lee DeWyze should have named his album "Fail It Up" It's such a mess. At times, I really wonder if they should even continue doing American Idol given that the winners that are selected continue to be worse and worse (depending on who you ask). And the people of America voted for this guy. Now votes don't necessarily translate into sales. Perhaps the public didn't know about him having an album out that time and they may have been another factor in that.

Given that Burlesque primarily is a Christina Aguilera album, and with all of the hype and promotion the film has received, one would think it would have opened higher. But, on the heels of Bionic, its performance isn't shocking. I don't know if it will see a higher sales week (as soundtracks usually see their peak sales in the week a movie opens wide), but whatever ranking it attains on Billboard probably will be its peak.
There was a Yahoo blog discussing the performance of all the Idol winners, and how winning no longer is a guarantee of post-Idol success (not that we don't know that).

The gap between Eminem and Taylor drops to 900k this week. I suck at math but that's got to be wrong. It's over.

Oh yeah, I was accounting for Eminem selling 200k+, I just didn't write that in. Em will probably end up with ~3.3 million which means Taylor would need to sell over 1.3 million to even have a shot. Also, interesting to note that Lady Antebellum will go up to 2.85 million this week. I wonder if Taylor will be able to pass them.

Idol shouldnt stop trying, it can still find stars, whether they win or not. x factor might just replace idol, but they wont drop idols till its viewers drop far lower, since im sure the show still makes a huge profit

She might be able to pass LA, but I don't think she has a shot at outselling Eminem this year. I don't even get why the title is so important, because honestly, we all know Taylor's gonna outsell him in the long run, that should matter more.

so with combined sales animal did around 95k, not terrible. this project shouldve been released in january. take it off still could have spent two more weeks on radio, and then released We R Who We R. the airplay wouldve been much higher (maybe peaking) had it released the first or 2nd week in january, and the video wouldve been out. it wouldve have eaisly made top 10, but prbly top 5.
Mariah may not sell 500k this year, but she will prbly be closeish. So next year while her sales wont be as strong she will cross the 500k mark keeping her streak going.

JFunk, last year, Andrea Bocelli gained 18% to 218K (in his 4th week)- he then increased big in the following week (to 428K). Scanning over last year's BB 200, it looks like most holiday titles gained during Thanksgiving week. Thanks. Yeah, I think holiday collections almost always gain during Thanksgiving week, if memory serves me right. Just surprised to see Lady Antabellum and Boyle drop at all.

I don't even get why the title is so important, because honestly, we all know Taylor's gonna outsell him in the long run, that should matter more. I wouldn't bet on that either. Recovery could very well outsell speak now in the long run. Speak Now could very well pass Recovery overall. But it's far from a guarantee. Another poster here made this point a few weeks back. JFunk- Taylor Swift's holiday EP also lost sales, and, understandably, Jackie Evancho.
pnob, depending on how things go the next three weeks, Mimi could come close to 500K- with five weeks left in the year (going through Jan. 2- if that indeed is the last week of the SoundScan calendar year), it would need an average of 67,000/week. It's not as out of reach as it may seem. But, as you said, if not this year, then next.

I assume 5, as it will be a decently large sales week, with xmas falling on a Saturday. Somewhat sad that Jessica Simpson can't put a Christmas album into the top 50 on Thanksgiving week. I do miss her sometimes.

Last week, SuBo's total was 10K+ higher with SoundScan numbers. That varies from week to week.
I'd think week ending Jan. 2 will be the final week for the SoundScan year, so that would be five weeks/charts:
12/18 12/25 1/1 1/8 1/15
Jessica Simpson's commercial appeal apparently is past its peak.

18 23 EMINEM SHADY/AFTERMATH/INT 49,858 +43% RECOVERY And some people thought Eminem wouldnt benefit from the holiday season. That's not what people were saying. People said he wouldn't benefit as much as Taylor, who has a more recent album. And that may be the case.

-- 8 NE-YO DEF JAM/IDJ 117,800 -- LIBRA SCALE
Good for him! And with no hit this time, Ne-Yo already established himself as an R&B artist so despite no hits from this album he still sold well for the first week although the lack of hits would hurt the album's sales in the long run. If he had a hit like So Sick, I could imagine this album selling 200K+
40 31 KINGS OF LEON RCA/RMG 37,321 +73% COME AROUND SUNDOWN 41 33 MUMFORD & SONS GLASSNOTE 33,397 +58% SIGH NO MORE 47 34 BRUNO MARS NEW ELEKTRA 31,477 +84% DOO-WOPS & HOOLIGANS
I'm happy all these albums had great increases :)
43 48 MIRANDA LAMBERT COLUMBIA NASHVILLE 21,783 +10% REVOLUTION
Will it cross the 1 million sales mark this week?

It's a completely different discussion. End of the year and overall total is different. Deal with it. Recovery had it locked up and i was CORRECT. Seriously some of the posters here blind hatred of Eminem stopped them from seeing he had it locked up. I was not just saying that because i am an Eminem fan. I did numbers and predictions in my head and determined Recovery would take it by 150K. If anything, It looks like i low-balled how much he would take it by. So the fact that you even think these are similar discussions is appalling to me.

If Speak Now had a powerhouse single smashing, it couldve sold more than Recovery by the end of the year. No it prbly wont, but it certainly could have. You specifically said you made predictions in your head, you say that it was locked up. Those two statements dont mix. They are similar disscussions. You werent open to the fact that Taylor had a chance to take the crown at the end of the year. Sure it looked like Eminem had a much bettter chance, but Taylor had a shot. Idc who ends up with the title. I love both artists, and would be happy for either (and honestly even if someone i dont like won it, i really wouldnt care; good for them).
