Wasn`t "Recovery" projected 400-500k too at first? Ended up selling 741k. I think Kanye may do close to 700k too.

YASSSS above the 500k mark for 'Ye. LOL Ne-Yo expected to debut higher than Ke$hit?? Ne-Yo's been like MIA for 2 years and she's had a big year. Why not? Ke$ha's "lead" single doesn't have a video and the song isn't that big on radio yet and I'm not sure what she's done besides the AMA's for promotion. Were you expecting Gaga-like numbers? I expected the Neyo to be in that range despite no hit single but I'm not sure how he will fare after this week.

If Kanye did 700k I would be shocked beyond belief!

He already exceeded HDD's initial prediction and usually when that happens, albums continue increasing over the week. This news alone probably will even boost it.

The week of Black Friday is always the hardest week to predict, so Kanye could very well soar above his prediction. Just imagine if he'd actually done some promo.

Burlesque will probably have the same box office run as last year's Nine, and its soundtrack peaked at #97. It's doing better by comparison.
It's also beating out the new Disney musical Tangled's soundtrack.
Could be better, but could also be worse.

Kanye will probably break 600K. He may not have a hit single, but he does have extremely positive word of mouth.

That would be too funny if Kanye and Taylor both would be nominated for the AOTY 2012. Could very well happen.

Kanye West deserves this, in recording what is truly a compelling album amidst all the recent negative tabloid fodder surrounding his name which could weigh down most artists.
West is hardly the kind of guy I'd like to share a glass of wine with, but nothing changes how effective and appealing he is as an artist, and for that I'm absolutely thrilled to see West's commercial impressionability not waning.

Kanye has AOTY 2012 on lock. When's the last time a mainstream album got a 90+ score on metacritic? Last I can think of is Outkast's Speakerboxxx/The Love Below (which won AOTY in 2004).

Even though it's still early in the 2010-2011 eligibity period, I really don't see who else could be a possible contender at this point in time.

Assuming he keeps his mouth shut (he doesn't do interviews anymore, so he might), his antics will be old news by Jan 2012.

I still don't think they'll give him AOTY. Don't discount the random veteran act that will inevitably emerge as Carole King and James Taylor have done this year. We also have a new album from Gaga and probably Beyonce, so watch out for that.

Yep, I said it in another thread.
Recovery will be nominated this year for AOTY and MBDTF will be next year. Neither will win sadly. I hope i'm wrong and both win but i doubt it.
Also, Do you really think the academy cares what meta critic says? Heck they pick and choose only certain review sites.

Meta critic doesn't mean shit when it comes to the grammys.

Sure metacritic doesn't, but Kanye's album has pretty much reached universal acclaim. It'd be quite shocking, stunning, and unbelievable if he isn't nominated next year.

I don't think Gaga and Beyonce will be contenders, honestly. Gaga is still a bit new, and Beyonce...I can't see her generating too much critical acclaim. But maybe she'll surprise us this time around.
The "old veteran" is always an issue, though.
And of course metacritic isn't a huge deal, I was just using it to show that it's been a while since a mainstream album has received such universal acclaim.
If Kanye loses it's because of politics.

I guess it depends what you describe as mainstream. Janelle Monae's The ArchAndroid is on a major label and is probably the only mainstream record with a considerable amount of reviews in the last two years that has done it on Metacritic. She has a 91 with 28 reviews. Last multi-platinum albums to do it was 2004's Outkast's Speakerboxx/The Love Below (91) and 2000's Stankonia (95). The White Stripes' Elephant has a 92 from 2003 and that went Platinum. Radiohead's In Rainbows has an 88 from 2007 and that went Gold. Don't think there's anything else in the last 10 years with certifications and an 85+ on Metacritic.

+1 It's not the material or image or anything of that sort. It's all purely mismanagement. And I makes me weep. :'( I know :( And I genuinely thought after Fantasy Ride they would get it together...but they didn't. Shame on me but this STILL makes me smile:
