I just realized Susan Boyle isn't in the Top 50 and Jackie Evancho is at #47 :o Weird, I'm sure Su-Bo will finish at least top 50 with the final update, I know Amazon doesn't have a huge percentage share of the market but she was #1 on there pretty much the entire tracking week and it's not like she sold NOTHING outside of Amazon, I'm sure it sold decently with in-store physical copies, especially before new years. Yea. They could still rise to be Top 25 even, given it doesn't really take much to be high this week, but I just find it extremely odd that the two biggest Xmas albums are reported so low, even with the % reported.

Well looks like my 50-70K prediction for Em this week looks like will happen.

SuBo was #1 this time last year. Hits probably messed up something, like they did with kanye weeks ago. This week, look for the Christmas titles to drop out completely, with Taylor Swift hanging on to #1 with a total of between 75-80k…and a happy new year to you, too. Does not seem like a mistake. But lets wait and see.

Let's wait. These % updates mean nothing. Only thing they tell you is that those album will sell at least what they have with that percentage, if not more, nothing else.

^Thank you!
We've been posting the HITS numbers for what? 5-7 years? And people still flip out each week at the early updates.

Why are people even expecting to see Subo or Jackie? The Christmas season is over so obviously nobody bought those albums this week. It's not surprising or even really notable.

Well Jackie actually is #47 after the first update, so I wouldn't say that nobody bought that album. As for Subo, I wouldn't be surprised if her album made the top 50 this week. A few other Xmas albums might hang around the lower reaches of the chart this week, but they'll all be gone soon enough.

The whole purpose of this thread is to speculate what's going to happen based on what we have, whether the information is 100% correct or not. I don't know why it's always such a big deal.
Christmas is over, but still, no matter if it's a seasonal album or not, I'm sure many of us, including myself would think she would be longer lasting than most xmas albums this time around.

HITS said Taylor should be #1 with 75-80k. That is way down from last year. it looks like in a few weeks there could be a new number one album with the least copies sold ever. does anyone think the script might have decent enough first week sales to come in at number one?

'Plus, B.o.B and Katy Perry are on different levels of stardom. B.o.B is still new, just getting his name out there, which is one explanation why his album underperformed a bit"
Katy Perry was a new artist last time and she sold much better than B.o.b.
Both artists had 2 smashes. Magic and Vegas both did well, Vegas doing a little better. Dont Let me Fall flopped, and thinking of you underperformed.

Susan's album is not strictly a Christmas one and a 96-97%+ decline in sales from its last week sales (which is the decline it would need to miss this week's top 50 if HITS' chart is on track) IS notable.

it's true that b.o.b underperformed, but he still went gold, which is great for a new rapper. i know we have Nicki and Drake, but these days i think it's pretty rare to have big sales right out of the gate for new rappers. although his album didn't sell spectacularly, he still sold about 6 million digital units, which is great.

also, he only had 1 urban hit (nothin on you), unlike nicki or drake who both had multiple.

Yeah Eminem didnt exactly burst on the scene with the SSLP in '99 either. Didnt even get the #1 spot.

My name is was an instant burst on to the scene and even won him a best new artist award at the VMAs when he was up against major pop stars at their height.

A tentative 97% decrease in sales week-to-week is unusual even for a Christmas album, especially one that was #1 on Amazon all week

Faith Hill's album dropped 92% in the big falloff week (dropping from 38 too the 190s on the BB 200 that week). other albums may have suffered even bigger declines.
Some holiday albums in recent times have managed to hang on a little bit once the new year kicks in. Enya's album, for instance- but that had a "winter" theme, in addition to holiday.

97% for a Christmas album in a post Christmas week is normal, in fact I would say better than expected. Some albums disappear altogether as they get pulled from retail shelves, others, as Holidayguy says hang on fpr a week or two before dying off

The first Susan Boyle album was not a Christmas album and better able to hold on after Christmas than this one will be

Magic didnt exactly set the world on fire...At least not on Nothin On You and Airplanes level. True...Magic came and went...still a favorite of mine but has a fast burn out rate. Yeah, I was shocked it wasnt bigger. I like "Magic" a whole lot better than "Airplanes Pt. 1." Also...I wasnt even an Eminem fan when the SSLP was released. When i heard "Forgot About Dre" from DRE 2001 in march of 2000 when it was released as a single is when i got into Eminem. My first explicit album i bought was DRE 2001. I actually got a burnt copy of the SSLP from my one friend and i burnt him DRE 2001. Of course.....I ended up buying an official SSLP a few weeks before MMLP came out in may. My first experience with Eminem was before the SSLP was even released. Middle School in California at the end of 7th grade in January 1999. Some girl was singing "My Name Is" during lunch. They used to do some karaoke thing every friday since lunch was held outdoors. Anyway...I just walked by. Didnt think a thing about it. Wasnt my type of music. So my first experience with hearing Eminem was over a year before i heard Forgot About Dre. LOL. When i walked by that day...I figured it was a rap group named "M & M". lol. Had no idea it was one guy let alone a white one. Oh how i love Nostalgia... So if you wanted to know how i got into Eminem...Thats how it happened. Was in 8th grade when i became a fan. I look back and find it funny that the middle school allowed a 7th grade skater prep girl sing the clean "My Name Is" during lunch... The clean version of "My Name Is" isnt that bad. And I guess January 1999 was before there was really any controversy regarding Em. I mean the SSLP didnt even come out till February of that year. So since he was relatively new the school didnt know better i guess. Madison Middle School in Vista California. What up. haha. I know i had a point for this rant somewhere...oh yeah...I mean by Eminem standards the SSLP didnt blow up out the gate like all his albums since. It still sold nicely and had great longevity. I tend to make short storys long. Sorry.
