BTW is also #1 in Japan (184k), France (55k) & Germany which makes it the first album since Hard Candy to go to #1 in the five major markets :)

It's number one pretty much everywhere
Fleet Foxes are doing pretty well..Surely the attention Mumford & Sons have had has helped them too.

I'm assuming HDD won't give any kind of update until they post the final list later this afternoon. Is that how this usually works with holidays?

LADY GOES GAGA IN U.K. Tops Chart With 215k, More Than Rest of Top 10 Combined May 31, 2011 Baby, she was Born to sell. Lady Gaga's Interscope album Born This Way scored the biggest first-week sales of the year int he U.K. with a debut of 215k units, more than the rest of the Top 10 titles combined. The album will top the HITS Album sales chart today with a total now estimated at more than 1 million, easily the highest of the year and expected to best Taylor Swift, who scored 1.04 million with her Speak Now release last October. Stay tuned to our Building Album Sales chart to see how high it will go. The U.S. figures were buttressed by Amazon's two-day 99 cents sale last week, which moved an estimated 450k downloads, costin the giant online retailer approximately $3.2 million, at a loss of about $7.40 per unit. Gaga's opening U.K. sales narrowly beat Adele's first-week tally of 208k for 21 earlier this year. Born This Way was joined in the top 10 by its predecessor The Fame, which rose 11-7 and now had U.K. sales of more than 2.5 million copies. Gaga also has three singles in the Top 20, with "Judas" falling 8-9, the "Born This Way" title track 16-17 and "The Edge of Glory" 6-18. "Hair" fell 13-68. XL Recordings' 21, which had spent 16 of the previous 17 weeks at #1, dipped to #2, but Adele's previous album 19 held at #3. The first single from the current album "Rolling in the Deep" moved back 34-26, as the Glee Cast version of the track debuted at #49. The new album chart also saw Bruno Mars climb back #5-4 with Doo-Wops & Hooligans (Elektra/Warner Music) and the Prodigy posting a #5 debut with the live CD and DVD World's On Fire (Take Me to the Hospital/Cooking Vinyl). Jessie J's Who You Are (Lava/Universal Island) rose 8-6. There was a #17-13 spurt for Noah & the Whale's Last Night On Earth, while U.S. soul singer Aloe Blacc continued his U.K. progress, as the album Good Things (Epic/Sony Music Entertainment) jumped #26-14 and the single "I Need A Dollar" #4-3. "Give Me Everything" (J/Sony Music Entertainment) by Pitbull featuring Nayer, Afrojack and Ne Yo, landed for a second week atop the singles chart. www.hitsdailydouble.com/news/newsPage.cgi

Glad to see Hair is getting the weak response it deserves on both sides of the Atlantic.
This was probably in the other locked thread but what are the most recent 1m+ album debuts? Before Taylor, it was Lil Wayne right? And before that was it Norah Jones? What numbers did they have? Will Gaga outdo all 3 of them?

Whaat? 'Hair' is the most fun and honest song she has ever released!
"This is my prayer / That I die living just as free as my hair"
Madonna could never!
But back to the topic: The 1.3 million by Oops.. seems impossible for BTW to achieve then.
I have a feeling that almost all of Brad Paisley's studio albums have sold the same 150k-ish on their first week.

Billboard is projecting around 1.15 million. The question now is will it come in below or above that #.

Of the 16 albums that reached 1 million, only 9 have topped 1.1 million
If this exceeds 1.15 million, it would be the highest totals since 'Eminem Show' in 2002.
This is already looking to be the biggest since 2005 (50 Cent - 1.14M)

Isn't everyone still underestimating how much it's going to open with? I know they were early last week because a lot of the female pop stars haven't been opening as big as expected (with a few exceptions).

Perhaps the 68% reported are physical retailers? Would sort of make sense cause Gaga's is less than half of her projected final total and seeing as country is usually primarily sold at physical retailers maybe that's what would explain Paisley nearly being at his full projected total already.

Scotty in the Top 10!
As for Gaga, I don't think these numbers tell us anything. The 40-70% updates each week seem more and more arbitrary. I won't be surprised if it's anywhere from 800k-1.15m.

Why would the numbers be indication of anything? Doesn't Hits report back by the retailer as they submit their sales numbers? Nearly half of her numbers came from Amazon who make up only a certain % of the retailers that report so when they do get their submissions in, we'll know it because her number will increase by 450K or whatever it will end up being. It's obvious that they haven't been included yet...unless all predictors from last week have been completely off.
