Yes, but do retailers like CVS report to HITS? I know there is a difference between HITS and Soundscan, but would Whole Foods and others report to HITS. I'm assuming those locations may not make that much of a difference.

I'm assuming those locations may not make that much of a difference. Not sure, but if they don't Hits probably has already figured out a way to calculate an estimate of non-traditional retailers like these...this is one week where they really don't want to be too far off from Soundscan, and those smaller retail numbers may add up to 100-200k for Gaga. That's a significant enough amount that they could wrongly report her as not selling 1m. I've been convinced for a while that for more interesting weeks Hits cherry picks which retailer #'s they report when they start their updates, just to keep people on pins and needles. I still compulsively check every Monday for #'s though.

Aside from a remix album, Stefani's only had two titles, so it's not like she had to wait eons for a No. 1 album.

Yeah. I am guessing they have received at least iTunes and some physical as well. We are probably still waiting on Amazon, the smaller retailers, and Wal-Mart. Isn't Wal-Mart usually one of the last? Maybe they weren't this time. Idk, but it's obvious we have some digital, but not all.

I do bet we find out the official soundscan sales for Gaga tonight though. Interscope did one for Recovery on a tuesday night. Jimmy Iovine was quoted in it. Since Gaga is on the same label, I wouldnt be shocked if we see a press release tonight with the official sales for Gaga and a quote from Iovine. Iovine likes seeing his name i think. :)

Interscope has produced I think like 3 of the last 4 million selling debut week titles.

With GaGa going #1, there's only one diva yet to score a #1 album Pink. :( They always release her album on competitive weeks. I know she's gone against Rascal Flatts 2, maybe 3, times now. Lol.

Rihanna? Has she had a #1 album before? Nope, although Pink > Rihanna.

While I'm not surprised Pink hasn't had a #1 album yet, I am very surprised that she only has one #2 album. Funhouse was her only studio album to even go top 5.

Pink's stats show that chart positions aren't the be-all and end-all- her second album scanned more than 5 million, after all, without ever reaching the top five.

I actually find it more impressive these days to sell a lot of albums without a high peak. A key indicator of longevity.

Record companies can use that money to fund other projects. If there is longevity, that's great. To sell more with less is always best.

Well, the end total sales is the indicator regardless of whether it's over a short period or over time. But I feel like over time (in the case of Adele) is an indicator of an actual good record because things like word of mouth is important in that respect. If an album sells a huge amount in a short period of time, it doesn't matter if it's good if it's based on hype. Of course, it can be said that Adele's constant sales is a case of ongoing hype for her as well so... I dunno really...
