By the way, Oops!...I Did It Again 2nd week sales:612,500 Someone remembers The Carter III and Speak Now 2nd week sales? I am pretty certain that OIDIA's second week totals are the highest second week sales total for an album that went #1 the week before. OIDIA never made it back to #1 because Eminen cock-blocked her initially and then when she past Eminem after a few weeks it was Nelly's Country Grammer that blocked her from getting another week at #1.

True, but I'm not sure if she has enough radio stamina this era to cross 3 mil unless there's another re-release. Will be interesting to watch though. Yeah I agree. I definitely don't see this reaching close to what "The Fame" sold in the long run and even though I love a lot of the tracks on BTW, a lot of it isn't single worthy stuff. Besides "Marry The Night", idk what she could release next.

Scheibe features the same beat as Judas. It'd get the same results on radio...
Americano sounds really wack, it would not work on radio.
You and I sounds like a bad country song. Maybe country radio would play it? Pop no.

Marry the Night is a logical single choice. I don't think there are any other potential hits on the Born This Way album. Knowing how much she seems to love "You and I" maybe she'll release that too, although I don't think it will do well. Scheisse makes no sense as a single -- way too frantically high energy and the song has a huge chunk in German, which doesn't exactly scream "radio-friendly" to me.
My hope is that she pulls a Rihanna and just moves on to the next album pretty quickly.

Well, Rihanna's released more albums since 2005 than anyone, so it would be tough to match her rate of output. :)
In any event, RiRi ended up with four singles or so from Rated R, but it did not have three released to radio prior to the album release.

Now that I think about it "Bad Kids" might be somewhat radio-friendly, but still, it doesn't smell like a big hit. It would probably be my pick for something to follow Marry the Night if they want to keep promoting this album. (That said, I don't know if Marry the Night is even confirmed to be a potential single?)
I don't think Gaga is very objective about her own work this time around.

^Maybe she didn't craft music that necessarily would produce big radio hits? Others- including those who have been big influences on her- have followed that path before her. ;)
Radio's probably received the three most radio-friendly tracks on the album (aside from the verses, "Judas" was pretty catchy), so we'll see what future releases will do.

Tbh, given all the promo, discounts, etc that went into week one and leading up to week one, that's not that bad of a drop. Bigger than normal, yes, but her first week wasn't like anything we have seen on the music scene in a LONG time. Last I checked, Taylor Swift sold over 1 mil at the end of last year... ???

Oh that's fine, if that was her intention. But the way she talked up this album made me think she pretty clearly had commercial success in mind. I don't think Judas was a good single choice. I would say BTW, EOG, and MTN are the only three radio-ready songs on the whole CD.

Did Amazon create a new sales strategy based around Speak Now? Did Speak Now come for free with Best Buy products? The list goes on and on. Speak Now's first-week sales were a much greater achievement. GaGa had the promo week of a lifetime.

In terms of theme, I'd agree that "Judas" may not have been a great single choice. But it definitely is catchy in spots.
I don't think Taylor did as much TV promotion as Stefani (though I'm not 100% sure on that). Of course she had to have some promo for he album to sell as it did.

no, others had higher week 2 totals that went to #1 the week before I don't know if he's accurate, but I think he meant highest as in percentage of first week sales, not raw numbers. On another and LAST non-related, totally out of the blue post.... .... checking out Nsync's numbers, it really surprises me that they were huge really only in the USA, not worldwide. Just like Taylor Swift. Eminem, Briteny and GaGa are/were WorldWide superstars whose US sales in some cases doesn't even make 50% of their total sales. Not that surprising when you think about it. While it's not really accurate to say *NSync was only successful here (they did well overseas too), BSB was definitely the dominant group worldwide. *NSync debuted after them so they had to deal with being called clones or copycats (think what Xtina had to deal with when Genie in a Bottle came after BOMT; didn't stop Christina's debut from doing extremely well but she just suffered a bit from comparison). Not quite sure why *NSync basically matched BSB in the US - their second and third albums were a bit r&b-influenced in spots so that's something they offered which BSB didn't, but that doesn't explain the first *NSync album smashing.

Not debating, just discussing. You'll have to forgive me, I'm an old fart so I'm genuinely interested in waxing poetic about old boy bands from 1998. But we can go back to arguing about whether a Target promo is really as big as a two-day 99-cent sale now.
I do recall standing in the checkout line at the grocery store the week Speak Now was released and seeing Taylor's face on what seemed like every single magazine on the stand. It certainly wasn't 'light' promo in the least, but I think Gaga takes the edge on media blitzing.

I was hoping for Death Cab to take the #1 spot...Oh well. Good numbers for them.

Target is but one retailer. The promo for Born This Way was unmatched. Ask anyone that works in the industry and I'm sure most would agree. Tv appearances, Internet deals, etc.

Yes- like that one article said, there's no way the average consumer could not know that Stefani had an album coming out.

Marry The Night is the best single choice left.
Hair is hot musically as well, but the lyrics are iffy.

LMAO.... GaGa laughs at the haters all the way to the bank. Nsync had two 80-date arena tours, including 42 stadium dates. I'm sure they were laughing on their way to the bank as well. Definitely. I ran into Lance Bass and he was wearing a pair of jeans that cost more than my car.

GaGa's drop will be huge because of Amazon, it's normal these days a 70-75% drop for albums that debut with massive first week sales. She did 1.108M, take 460k from that and you'll have 648k
648k -70% is 194k so it's no surprised she'll scan 200k or less.
