Guns N Roses has a pretty good shot at first-year-eligible induction this year. Nirvana would be the next one, me thinks.
peigan, U2 was inducted in 2005, in its first year of eligibility. :)
The only females who got in in their first-year of eligibility are Janis Joplin and Ms. Ciccone. Of course, Joplin's was posthumous. The Pretenders and Talking Heads, with female members, did as well.

What has Guns N Roses done that warrants first year induction though? They made a big splash when they first came out, but after that, they kind of fizzled. A lot of people don't think they ever lived up to their early promise.

I think Public Enemy might make it next year in their first year of eligibility.
I'd like to see more than 5 inducted this year. How often has that happened?

^Yes, they are eligible.
Artists who debuted in 1986 were eligible this year.

Public Enemy's first album hit in 1987, and no single looks to have had 1986 release, so 1987 would be the year they're looking at.
Appetite For Destruction was a huge album (not speaking commercially), important and regarded as one of the best of all time. The follow-up wasn't lauded too much, but the Use Your Illusion albums enjoyed decent notices. So, three really strong records. I agree, though, that the band could have had a lot more in it. The same goes for Nirvana- and is there any doubt that it will be inducted right away?

Public Enemy is not eligible until next year.
Does anyone know how often they've inducted more than 5 acts?

In the first couple of years, there were even more than that. In some years thereafter, there were seven performers.
There usually are non-performers inducted, too- including those, there were eight last year.

There usually are non-performers inducted, too- including those, there were eight last year. That's because they were playing catch up. They had to induct all those 50's performers (like Elvis) who were way over 25 years but who needed to be inducted first.

I suspect Mary will be on hand to perform "Sweet Thing" at the event and even perhaps induct the group themselves. Chaka hated Mary's version of "Sweet Thing". I agree with you Chaka girl. lol.

Perhaps Joan Jett's and Heart's nominations will make the Hall consider Pat Benatar in the future? While never a big critics' favorite (like those two females), her overall body of work is better than Joan Jett's, I'd say. And, please with Donna Summer already! I agree! Pat Benatar had Grammy love, sales, fans, etc. I also think Duran Duran should have been considered before The Cure.

Yeah, I figure that's why they inducted so many in the first couple of years.

I wouldn't be disappointed if Duran Duran eventually got in. But, I'm still thrilled to see The Cure nominated this year.

^She eventually will- but, I agree that it's taking a bit longer than it should (she's been eligible since 1999).

^Chic wasn't even nominated this year; but both its and Donna Summer's day will come. Unfortunately, for some, it just takes a while. Hopefully they won't have as long a wait as Neil Diamond (22 years).
Donovan's been eligible since 1990, so that's a 21-year wait there. The Faces, since 1991, and Laura Nyro since 1992.
As expected, GNR joins the elite group of first-year-eligible inductees.

^How do you think inductees who wait 19-22 years feel? Donna Summer now moves to- at least- a 13-year wait. I agree that it's getting to be too long. :)

^The Supremes shouldn't be on that list. None of its members has gotten a solo induction or was inducted in another group.
